Obviously you can't expect a company not to choose profit and corporate interests above all else. It doesn't make it any less insulting to their existing customers, however. These are such dumb fucking excuses.

Yeah, no shit you guys did it in order to reach a wider audience. That's fucking obvious. No one was confused about that part.

But was there really no other way for Dropout to reach a wider audience? Did they expect that this would be their only opportunity, that nothing else would pop up in the future? What kind of audience do they want, anyway? Are they going to go right back to regularly criticizing law enforcement on their shows like nothing happened? How will their new customers who discovered them through their favorite copaganda show feel about their criticism of law enforcement?

Is it a smart business decision to push your existing customers toward canceling their subscription, bring in new customers who are favorable towards cops, then lose those customers too once they find out that the network criticizes the very institution that inspired them to seek out their streaming service in the first place?

Yeah, it's dumb to put your hope in a company. But considering how many other streaming services had already become enshittified and chalked full to the brim with cash-grabs, blatant propaganda, and the mistreatment of creators, people were excited to find something that at LEAST SOMEWHAT better aligned with their morals than other streaming services. They share their profits amongst their employees! They regularly condemn fascism and genocide! They protest! They aren't afraid to loudly and proudly criticize those in power on their widely-viewed shows! The biggest issue many people had with them was their lack of representation for transfeminized people, especially compared to how many TME queer people were employed, but many still held onto the hope that because Dropout seemed to care about marginalized people, that fact would change over time. But instead, they went the other direction and took advantage of their status of "at least we're not As Bad as other streaming services" as an excuse to ignore those pleas for better representation. And now they've taken that excuse even further.

The people who supported you no longer have any reason to trust you when you claim to hold any stance or opinion. Good luck with that.

Genuinely disturbing. In mostly a good way. Probably. But also the heart of the book is like. You feed yourself into the meat grinder and your children into the meat grinder and then you are sad about the meat grinder and wonder why you did that and the only way to get out of the meat grinder is to crawl back out the hard way and get meat grinded in reverse. And that’s not really fair to anyone but we don’t know what to do with the meat grinder so it’s staying for now. Also the meat grinder has really intense things to say about sexuality and childhood trauma and masculinity and youre NOT going to like them.
