Dragon’s Den, Blackthorn City
Note 4
We are here. I just met the last guardian, the one who keeps the Dragon’s Den Shrine cave safe. He asked me so many questions, I started to sweat. Just one wrong answer and my access would have been denied. When I arrived I saw the shadow of a Dragonair floating in the air, checking on me and ready to protect the guardian if he was in danger.
He asked me two categories of questions and, I cannot lie, I was pretty surprised. Some of them were difficult Pokémon related questions, others were more personal, quasi-philosophical ones. They are still fresh in my memory, but I can’t remember the complete answer I gave. I’ll try to write them down:
What are Pokémon to you? - Friends to discover the world with and face new adventures.
What helps you to win battles? - I don’t battle a lot but, I guess, strategy and training.
What kind of trainers do you wish to battle? - Anyone who wants to train, weak or strong, is a challenge I’d like to try.
What is most important for raising Pokémon? - I think knowledge about the Pokémon world is essential, but also a good dose of love can help raise them correctly (I felt Roselia hugging my leg, it made me smile).
Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. Which is more important? - (I took a moment to answer, I stuttered a bit) I think… that the strength of a Pokémon doesn’t determine their value.
After these five questions he sat down and took a book from his bag. He randomly chose a page five times and, each time he read something out loud, a question about a Pokémon:
As I grow taller and taller, I outgrow my reliance on psychic powers, while within I awaken the power of the sleeping dragon. Who am I? Alolan Exeggutor (I’ve been studying regional forms all my life, this question was the easiest one).
The mountains I call home are nearly two miles in height. On rare occasions, I descend to play with the children living in the towns below. Who am I? Drampa (I remember my parents sending me a postcard from Alola where two Drampa were playing with children).
On Sunny days, I fly through the sky and blend into the clouds. I sing in a beautiful soprano. Who am I? Altaria (Also this one wasn’t extremely hard. There aren’t a lot of Pokémon that can actually sing).
I live in seas and lakes. My crystalline orbs appear to give me the power to freely control the weather. Who am I? Dragonair (I would have never guessed properly if the guardian’s Dragonair wasn’t floating in the air. There are so many Pokémon with weather-controlling orbs).
I’m able to freely control the hardness of my metallic Shell. I loathe solitude and I’m extremely clingy. I will fume and run riot if those dearest to me ever leave my side. Who am I? Hisuian Goodra (This was the hardest question, Magcargo was the only name popping in my head, but I knew it wasn’t the right answer and it isn’t a dragon type Pokémon. It took me a minute but than, a flash of memory! The Hisuian Museum in Sinnoh… I remembered the tapestry in the hallway with the Hisuian forms, and just like that I had my answer).
My access was granted and finally I’m in… the last cave. It’s pitch dark but a few fire torches are helping me identify the immensity of this place.
My feet are sinking on wet sand that costs the walls next to the entrance. In front of me a vast dark blue lake, calm like the sea on a windless day. I can see some blueish figures swimming in the water, and it’s so scary, but I can’t tell much more than that. In the middle of a lake, suspended on wooden trunks, the famous Dragon Den’s Shrine. The bridge connecting to the temple looks destroyed and only a small boat can bring me to the sacred building. Let’s see what I can do, Roselia can’t swim me there and I’m too heavy for Hoothoot…
