Isn’t it weird how Pokemon Eggs aren’t actually eggs (like, irl eggs), and this info is relegated to two minor NPCs and is never brought up outside of that?
I feel like this is almost never brought up, so I imagine many just don’t know about it. We have eight different Pokemon families confirmed/implied to reproduce through non-Egg means (two of them, Rabsca and Blissey, even have non-Egg eggs), and we can put regular eggs on sandwiches and in curry. Meanwhile, according to this, Eggs– the white and green ones– are “cradles”-- and this has been the intent since the beginning! In a 1999 strategy guide for Gold and Silver, there was a section with an explanation of Eggs by Professor Elm, they’re called plant-based cradles! (unfortunately no scans of this exist online, and I’m going off a Japanese blog post about the book…)
The implications of this are weird. Where do Eggs come from actually? Why can almost any Pokemon produce them? I dunno! There’s a lot of discussion to be had about this! (Eggs aren’t exclusive to the Day Care, either– the Larvesta Egg in Black and White was found in the Relic Castle!)
My new favorite addition to the pokemon lore is that the champion Leon is not necessarily bad with directions it just that reality itself is bending around him and anyone in like a 10 ft radius of him. This man is NOT Zoro he has an internal compass its just that he is being House.WAD-ed by either Hoopa or Palkia itself
The terms Regional and National Pokédex made sense in Gens 1-4 when all of the regions were different parts of Japan.
But ever since Black & White the Pokémon regions have been all over the world, suggesting that the pokemon world is a single global nation.
And honestly, good for them! I envy them for it.
So if legends Z-A implies that Pokémon X is cannon, and that Lysander became eternal because of Xerneas, & the other Team Flare Grunts were off capturing Yveltal in the meantime, and that none of them came back...
Watching people playing pokopia on YouTube is amazing because all of my theories about the pokemon world being subject to a worldwide crisis ending in a post-apocalyptic universe are proven right and it is insane. I am losing my mind. Like. Hello. The implications are crazy and completely change my vision of the mainline Pokemon games’s stories as well as put under a new light some of the characters’s motivation. Especially those that seemed confusing at first glance. Now everything makes sense !
Something something about humans living in a doomed world from the start but still trying to keep hope with their companions even though they know their existence on this earth is only brief and fleeting, about going outside and meeting people, becoming a witness of this world while you can still see it and trying to get the best of it despite the situation.
Something something maybe humans are to blame for the crisis (as we knows what humans are capable of, both in the heavenly and in the monstrous) or maybe they are but victims who tried to slow something they knew was coming.
Something something nature regrowing and going on without them after they dissapear, making final goodbyes with their pokemon friends due to the fact that they know there is no getting away, trainers doing one last fight and returning to their families, kids sleeping under the stars on their journey not knowing that the reason adults encourage them to travel is not just tradition or a coming out of age sign but because everyone knows time is running out and the only gift they can still give their children is the chance to see the world before it’s gone.
Something something professors being humanity's last line of defense because this is the only way for them to prepare and understand the world around them, documenting pokemons like their lives depends on it because it does, actually ! But they are not turning a blind eye to the situation either, knowing from their studies that they cannot stop what is coming. They can only present a reassuring, familiar face and optimism to their communities in their regions, and that would already be enough to go in peace.
Something something, the last generation of humans leaving behind memories and everything that made them… them, fading away with a sad nostalgia but also happy expression because they knew that would be happening and they had time and could still love, bond together, and grow in a society they tried to build on joy, friendship, stories of travels and kindness.
Something something, the towns we all have known in our childhood playing video games and getting lost in fantasy standing in ruins, proof that humans once were and that for a little while, they tried their best.
And this is what mattered even if it did not save anyone, in the end.
Thought I would attempt my own version of the Arceus symbol meaning. There's a deeper explanation below and feel free to ask any questions
