“Could we not take a carriage if there’s such a rush?” Julie asked, but she walked faster anyway, to prove she wasn’t just being lazy or cheeky.

“Just because you’re getting out of the castle grounds, it doesn’t mean you now miraculously turn into a princess. You know that, right? No way you’re taking a carriage. Besides, it’s not a long trip.”

“Well we’ll see if there is anything I haven’t read there.” Michelle said with a slight hint of expectation in her voice. “Now, what other stops do we need to make?” She was hoping Logan would give  a hint to what he was after, asking her to Hogsmead was not a normal move for him.

“Are you implying that you have read thousands of years of books? How confident in your readings.” his deadpan tone rang through the room, indifferent but vaguely defying as he found Michelle to be obnoxious in more than one way. “I need a book. You can make any other stops you think are necessary, but for me, it’ll be just the library for today.”

The brunette nodded and followed the student; “Why are we headed there for?”

“Ridiculous, Maya Burke.” he clicked his tongue in mock disappointment. “I thought you would appreciate an escape. Spending time among the servus can’t do us any good.”

Surprises were a funny thing. On one hand you can’t wait to discover the secret the other person is holding. You want all the tips, all the clues. On the other waiting made the surprise even greater. 

“What do you want to do for Christmas? The way I see it we have three options: we can visit our cousins in Portugal; stay here in the castle or if you want to.. stay in our Father’s Manor.”

He didn’t like her question - not the way it was asked, not her choice of words, not the tone, not the content itself. Lorgan just didn’t know how not to avoid the topic, but instead, he raised his shoulders briefly with simulated indifference. “It’s our manor, Rachel.” he corrected her mistake, his voice suddenly sounding weary. 

“We can’t stay. People who don’t have anywhere better to be stay. Portugal is out of question. Para isso não precisava de razões. You understand. Home isn’t that bad.” He used the word home and didn’t flinch. Of course he didn’t. He knew his part too well.

“I am happy you are feeling well sir.”

“Of course. I aim and live to make you happy, if it weren’t obvious enough. Anything else I can help you with?”

“I merely wondered how long we would be, sir. I had no intention of refusing you.”

“You’ll see. And yet, I wasn’t offering you alternatives. I can’t help but wonder what exactly makes you think you are entitled to refuse anything. Perhaps you’ll elaborate on an explanation on our way.”

“My only plans for the afternoon are to be your doting, humble Servant, Sir.”

“Music to my ears. Now, be nice and start walking. Or do you not know how to get to Hogsmeade?”

Michelle perked up at the idea of the other library, “I would like a change of scenery. But what were you hoping to accomplish in Hogsmead. Surely more than the crowd is driving you from the castle?”

“Let’s stay with the thought that the library there has a wider variety of books you may not encounter with at Hogwarts.” Lorgan shrugged dismissively, knowing that, for somebody as curious as Michelle, what he said can represent a challenge.

Teddy raised an eyebrow, “Just to stretch your legs? I’m impressed, you’ve never wanted to get out of the castle this badly before. I’ll go with you, so long as you buy me a butterbeer.”

“If I have, it might have been just not in your company, Teddy.” he reminded him in a gentle tone, before getting distracted by the butterbeer comment. “I could, though I can’t help but dislike your choice.”

“No… No, of course you wouldn’t. Okay. Of course.”

“Marvelous. Thank you for your understanding, but you’ll have to walk faster. We need to get there in twenty minutes.”

Rolling her eyes good jokingly she pressed a kiss to his cheek, tapping his nice twice. “You know I enjoy your company… I choose being surprised.”

“I figured we wouldn’t need to become cynical. Let’s walk now. There is a long way ahead of us until we get to your surprise.” Lorgan nodded, guiding her to lead the way, as he knew she likes it.

“Such a buzzkill. Yeah yeah, lead the way, Sir.”

“Your buzz isn’t my concern, do I really need to remind you that? I hope you don’t have plans for this afternoon.”

Michelle huffed, setting down her bag on a bench at the top of the steps. “I swear! When did this castle get so many floors?”

Looking through her coldly, he stopped walking for a moment to reply in a stern voice and then went back to his stroll. “In the tenth century.”

Oh me? Just considering murder. I would kill someone for a cup of coffee right now.

Charming, but the question was for me. To answer it myself, dearest Rachel, I’m not contemplating murder or desperately trying to get a seat at a table I don’t belong to, rather than thinking about turning every drop of coffee in this room into water to test the Servus’ patience and see if she was seriously considering murder indeed or thought it would be a funny thing to say and make her feel interesting. And other than that, just well.

Michelle looked up, startled, “Uh what? Why me? What in merlin’s beard could you possibly need me for?” She wasn’t keen on stopping her work at this moment and unless Logan came up with something borderline fascinating, she wasn’t going anywhere.

“Isn’t a friend allowed to ask another for company?” Lorgan feigned confusion, blinking rapidly as he was waiting for Michelle’s answer. “I thought you’d like the Hogsmeade library for a change.” Then, he leaned in closer, letting his book out of his hands on the table for a little. “Besides, this place is crowded with servi in the weekends. I find it unpleasant and wondered if you do too.”

“This is going to sound a little… Mean. However, this is my one time that I am allowed to read and I would appreciate it if you didn’t ruin it for me.”

“I don’t understand. What gives you the impression that, one, you can talk to me, two, you can talk to me like that and three, be in the library after talking to be like that to begin with? But humor me first, how did I ruin your reading?”

Teddy raised an eyebrow at Lorgan, “Am I now? And what errand do you need to run all the way in Hogsmeade?”

“You’ll think I’m not feeling well for saying this, but I’ve got bored of the castle and figured a little stroll might help. Besides, we’re free to visit Hogsmeade. Why waste the weekend?”
