A Poor Replacement | Thomas & Lucy

Lucy was in the garden, just as he knew she would be. How could she think of being elsewhere, he thought, when she was to waiting to have a moment alone with her betrothed? As he approached her, he could not help but wonder if, perhaps, one day, he and Aurora Churchill might secretly meet each other like this. He had to remind himself that it was unlikely that, as of yet, the princess even knew his name. 

“Your Grace,” He bowed, “I’m afraid I have some rather disappointing news.” He said, stepping as close to her as he dared in case they should be seen, “Chris won’t be able to meet you, just now,” He said in a low voice, “I’m afraid the prince has sent him on an errand. He hopes you will be able to meet him here, the same time tomorrow.” 

He could see that Lucy understood (he doubted that this was the first time that they had tried to have a moment alone and their plans had failed), but she looked disappointed all the same. “I’m sorry that we’ve kept you waiting,” He added, “I came as soon as I could get away.” 

He offered her his arm, “I would be happy to keep you company, if you like. But I will take no offense if you send me away. I know I am a poor replacement.”

Since Thomas is David’s usher, I’d imagine these two see a good bit of each other?  But in any case, Ria is v glad that they’ve brought loyal Catalonians along w them!!! 10/10 would recommend!!!!!!  She’s hoping he’ll also keep his eyes and ears out for any tidbit of useful information (on virtually any subject) he might happen to stumble across!  

All this being said, Ria would absolutely be furious to learn Tom has eyes for Aurora!!!!  That is not conduct befitting of good Catalonian ushers!!!! ;DDD  Mostly bc it may compromise his loyalties and bc it deF compromises the decorum of this summit hahaha  That being said, I doubt he’s walking around with an I <3 AURORA t-shirt ++ he’s covering his tracks so I don’t think he’s in any danger of her finding out atm!!  Rn she’s just v happy to have his loyalty!

Okay! So! I do think that Thomas is, and always has been, pretty loyal to the Waynfletes ... but I can see where the Godolphins resurfacing is causing him to be a little like “?!??!?!” what happens now??!!?!??!? who should I be loyal to now?????????????? I mean, I think his gut is mostly telling him the Waynfletes, but i feel like there is def a bit of guilt, too, at the knowledge that the ~rightful~ king has been alive this entire time!!! 

And yeah, he for sure is covering his tracks (possibly even too well??? does rora even know he’s interested??? who knows??) in regards to that, haha, so I doubt she knows. (honestly about either of his current struggles)

OOC | Hugh & Thomas

Hugh is shocked!! and appalled!! that anyone!! ever!! would side with the Waynfletes!!!!!!!!  Anyway, I’m guessing bc they’re both ~Catalonian peerage~ that these two have probs met before, (unless you think Thomas is part of the new peerage that arose w the Waynfletes post-revolution?) which I’m sure would obv color their relationship hahaha  In any case, Hugh is a bit belligerent towards pro-Waynflete peeps bc he feels super betrayed hahaha so either way he’ll probs be pr unpleasant.  That being said, these two are actually similar in some ways, esp in that they’re both active and want to see and do more, etc.  I mean, I do think they approach it in pr different ways, but…still hahaha  Anyway!  Thoughts on these two?

yES!!!! Okay, so I can actually see where they might have been close friends, way back in the day??? They are pretty similar in a lot of ways and omg I feel like they would have probably gotten into a lot of trouble as kids??!?!? I also feel like they go on super well most days, but when they would fight, it was bad lol. 

Anyway, he 100% thought that hugh was dead??? and now he’s not?? and now hugh looks @ him and sees a traitor?!?!??! when honestly I feel like thomas never really thought of it like that?? like he assumed the godolphins were dead and the waynfletes are responsible for that, he also sees where they are trying to do what is best for catalonia and what’s done is done and he’s here to help them as they build a better future for their country!!! 

His loyalties are still to the waynfletes, but I can also see where the godolphins resurfacing might have him question that???? but for the most part, he’s a little too distracted by rora to give much thoughts to politics #facepalm

OOC | Cecil & Thomas

So I can see this going a few different directions!  Firstly, Cecil is v determined to maintain positive relations with both sides of the Catalonian conflict for as long as possible.  That being said, his first priority is first and foremost always Avenia.  Therefore, if Cecil ever thought Thomas was behaving in an untoward manner towards Princess Aurora, he would not react positively.  That being said, I think he’d act as diplomatically as possible and simply try to separate them without resorting to any other means unless it became necessary.

Beyond that, however, (esp since I doubt that will come up towards the beginning, if it ever does become an issue at all), I do think that Cecil would generally be cordial.  He can come off a big forbidding at times, but he doesn’t really mean to at all.  Mostly, though, I think he often has a sort of (strict) dad friend vibe hahaha  Like, his main thing is being honorable and good and beyond that, he mostly just wants the best for everyone.  I think he can be sort of tough to get a read on when you’re first encountering him, but he tries, I promise ;D

Okay! So I feel like Thomas would certainly like and respect Cecil, but I do think that he would also pick up pretty quickly that Cecil would NOT be okay with Thomas putting the moves on the princess, haha, and so he’d be especially careful not to do or say anything to at all raise suspicions around him. I think Thomas is therefore, going to try especially hard to get on Cecil’s good side (keep ur enemies close! ... not that he’d straight up consider cecil to be an enemy ... more just like a roadblock on his (potential) road to happiness haha). so i can see where they might be on good terms, at least to start with? 

That being said, he is also doing a loT of shameless flirting with Diana Twysden, and idk how Cecil would react to that?

Okay, so Thomas is BFFs with Christopher and I feel like there is a good chance that he knows about Chris/Lucy and their plans to elope??? Honestly, Thomas is a HUGE romantic and he also just really wants Chris to be super happy, so I think that he’s definitely 100% on board with this plan and has probably also offered his assistance, in any way he might help??? 

Also, I feel like he would adore Lucy and he definitely believes that she and Chris are perfect for each other and can’t wait until they are happy and settled <333 

I can also see where he may at some point, confide in Lucy his feelings for her cousin Rora? And possibly even ask her lots of questions about her (probably even being like “has she mentioned me at all?!?!?!?”) Anyway, idk what Lucy would think about him trying to pursue Rora????

Diana thinks she’s in love with Thomas!!  She sees carriage rides and wedding vows and the whole thing if their relationship keeps going the way it is smdh  She has no clue that he’s just sort of flirting w her bc of his feelings for Aurora!!  A real meSS!!  But then…so is she so who is surprised ;D

... I feel like thomas is such!!!! an idiot!!!!!!! And like ... at any other given time, I feel like he would have seen that he’s clearly leading Dea on but between he’s so!!!!! distracted!!!!! by rora!!!!!!! I feel like he’s just in this constant state of feeling slightly ill b/c of the butterflies and the lack of eating/sleeping he’s doing (#facepalm) and so it’s hard enough to concentrate on his job, as it is, and he really doesn’t have time to think of anyone/thing else #whoops

And yeah, he definitely thinks that what he and Dea are doing is all in good fun and I feel like he goes in a little hard with the flirting/teasing sometimes especially when he’s really trying to throw people off and i THINK he probably gets pretty carried away and it’s no wonder Dea thinks that they are gonna get married #facepalm

LAUREN!!!! Thomas is such!!!! heart eyes!!! @ rora!!!!!! 

I feel like the first time he saw her he was just like !!!!!! and probably turned to chris and was like “i’m gonna marry that girl!” and then chris was like “haha ok u realize she’s the avenian princess, right????” and then thomas brought up how he’s secretly engaged to the archduchess, so ... ;D

anyway, I feel like he wants to get to know her better and enjoys nothing more than their conversations!!!!!! I think he may kind of run a little hot and cold with her though? like he doesn’t meant to send mixed signals, but he definitely doesn’t want anyone else to suspect that he is into her (but he DOES want to make it clear to rora) and so yeah he’s a bit all over the place and probably flirts way more with dea than he ever does with rora, so I can see where she doesn’t even realize he’s interested #facepalm 

anyway, idk if you think rora would even like him????? thoughts??? (either way, he’s up for the challenge of winning her heart haha)

DAVID WAYNFLETE’s usher, tom was honored to be brought w him from catalonia for this trip!!

it’s useful, after all, to have some of one’s own servants rather than relying entirely upon the hospitality of a stranger in a strange land

tom, himself, is much pleased w the opportunity

he’s always wanted to see the world, to explore, to learn more, achieve more, be more

and what better opportunity than to associate w the royalty of three countries?

tom is betting on the waynflete horse and he’s not looking back!!!!!

he doesn’t think the godolphins have much chance of making a come back, after all, and besides rising tides raise all ships

for him it was practically love at first sight when he spotted AURORA

he thinks maybe she’s driven him a little crazy

he can’t eat or sleep or think now and it’s…enfuriating

he knows that a mere usher is not meant to raise his eyes so high, but tom is nothing if not ambitious

he means to prove himself worthy of her affections and win her hand

in the mean time, tho, he can’t have anyone suspicious of this endgoal or he knows he will be thwarted

so he throws them off the scent by flirting w the beautiful and charming DIANA TWYSDEN

of whom, admittedly, he is quite fond

but she’s a known flirt and has a reputation for rejecting every suitor who looks her way, so tom is confident he won’t hurt her when the truth outs

he has no idea how wrong he is…
