Cockpit photos
Dubai-based photographer and airline pilot Karim Nafatni captures beautiful photographs, thousands of feet in the air, from the cockpit of the airplane that he’s flying.
Amazin' pics! I like imagining that they are from one of those gigantic zeppelins of the alternate universe in "Fringe". :)
Took this pic atop the Empire State Building on my first visit to NYC, sometime in March 2000. I can't remember the exact date. It was a pretty overcast day, but you could see most of manhattan on all sides. I decided to add the purple gradient in PS just to give the sky a little more color.
I've been back to NYC many times, but nothing was quite like that first trip. Feeling the electricity of the city for the first time, man I totally got swept off my feet. When I see those two towers in the foreground on the right, I feel peace. I can stare at them all day...

Didn't win the competition, but had a lot fun knocking out my Chaos in Tejas t-shirt design entry, so why not show it off. Here's the final version of it (after a couple small post-deadline tweaks of course. tee hee hee!). One color on black was the only requirement. Just wanted to do an homage to one of my favorite movie posters of all time. Like I said, it was fun to do and I really like how it came out. Hopefully, someone at Mindzai Creative ATX also got a kick out of it.
If you are in A-town this wknd and at the Mohawk Sat night hit me up. Hopefully I'll be watching Baroness blow everyone away...
It's a post hardcore crust metal indie punk old school golden era hip hop thing...

London Sugar
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Museum of London Docklands, artist Chris Naylor was commissioned to create a model of some of the English capital’s most well-known landmarks—with sugar cubes.

Chaos!
Well, 3 Baroness albums and 4 hrs of sleep later, I think I've got a pretty boss one-color Chaos in Tejas t-shirt design. Hitting up red river all of next weekend free of charge remains to be seen. Design will be posted in the coming days, as soon as I hear the results of the competition...
CHAOS!
Thanks to my awesome co-worker Wes - who knows a guy who knows a guy who has the Internet - for making this advanced copy of the new QOTSA album magically appear in my lap. I like mucho so far…just letting it sink in really.
Also, brilliant artwork in this video I might add..

BGD Assignment 4 - Logo
Just a simple logo assignment. No gradients, only 1 or 2 spot colors allowed. I remember scrolling through a number of Tibetan mandalas right before I started. Wasn't really thinking about the assignment, just getting lost in the details with those beautiful speheric designs. Thinking that totally influenced where I went with the logo.
Plus I got to make this nifty little business card along with it.

So amazin'...love long-exposure night shots.

BGD Assignment #5 - Four Color T-Shirt Design (Theme: Music)
Digital 2 of 3

Incorporation of theme in any manner or interpretation
Limited Color Use (4 Spot Colors, No Gradients)
Color Separations and Registrations (layer functions in Adobe Illustrator)
8”x10” artboard for image area (matted on 10”x12” foam core board)
Just a great tribute to the Wu with this one, no more no less. The connection with Eastern culture obviously is represented. I thought this design would not only make a great t-shirt, but also flag. The Wu Flag...
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE INANIMATE OBJECT?
Had to think about it for a bit, but I would say very tall buildings and towers.

I'd been listening to a lot of Jazz to help get me through my Illustration class. It really allowed me to loosen up, concentrate on sighting, blocking out and beginning my drawings with light gesture lines. When this assignment and it's theme came up in BGD, I knew I wanted one of my digitals to pay tribute to the genre. So, I choose Thelonious. I took my inspiration from this classic image of the Monk:
I just imagine Thelonious in some smokey underground club, going from one amazing bar to the next on 'Round Midnight or something. I wanted to capture that feeling with this design, while adhering to the assignment objectives. The red "jazz" bubbles emanating for the Monk's smoke is my way of representing that sense of magic every smoke-filled, underground jazz club has...way after midnight.
