it’s very interestin the differences the reps and percentages you use have on your body.
THe base of my fitness/strength was always a mix of the two. Makes sense considering I did football. WE would do sets of 10/8/5. And just pyramid and super set. So we could get strength and size. And when I…
Tbh I’m kinda similar, i started off doing basic 3x8 or 3x12, sometimes (but not frequently) going down to sets of 5 or 6, but recently I cut my reps and am doin’ more like 3x5. It’s so weird tho, idk sometimes I don’t feel like I’m working as hard because I’m not doing as many reps (even though the weight is heavier I guess so I mean I’m still working hard)
but did notice back when I was still doing strength/hypertrophy that when I dropped the reps on my bench and went heavier, I actually saw improvements (my bench had been stuck at 75/85 lbs for a LONG time when I wanted to be able to do 85 lbs comfortably before I went up), like I went up to 95 lbs and 100 lbs even though I could get much fewer reps, and suddenly I’m able to bench 95 lbs for 5 reps when before I only got 2
so I’ve started messing around with shit in all of my lifts, it’s still too early to tell if it’s working but all the literature says that if my %1RM is right and my reps are right then I should see results
it’s just not something I’ve really ever done before, even though I’ve lifted for awhile
hmm. interesting interesting.
That does sound somewhat familiar. I do remember making me dramatic strength gains doing that. Esp in bench and deadlift. Not much of squat though. This texas method squat is reallllly working for me. Shoulder press, idk. It’s improving, just not as much as I like.
