How they could’ve made Jax abstraction happen without mischaracterising Pomni:

Option A:

- Have Jax never reach out to her

- Pomni would still get worried about her silence and would go talk to the

- Jax would just be her usual cartoony self

- Jax would push Pomni away in a discreet way, not in a mean way. Just like annoy her until she leaves.

Option B:

- Have the same scene happen

- Pomni keeps prying

- Jax keeps denying “I said it’s nothing!”

- They fight

- Jax starts leaving

- Pomni follows her

- When Pomni reaches her, Jax pushes her away (physically or verbally)

- Pomni still tries to get her to talk

- Jax in the meantime would’ve reached another room

- Jax enters the room with one of her keys, leaving Pomni behind

- Pomni goes to the others, telling them something is wrong with Jax

- Even if, let’s say, Zooble and Gangle don’t wanna help out, Ragatha will, and so will (sane) Kinger

- After a short brain storming montage or whatever they open the room

- They find Jax abstracted/in the exact moment of the abstraction.

- Pomni tries to get close, but Ragatha and Kinger stop her

- They run away

With this we get to scene in the episode, with Zooble criticising Jax.

You are allowed to feel sad about your favourite character dying, but it isn’t inherently a bad thing - writing wise.

It was coherent and treated with dignity. It allowed insight into the character, humanised what had been the villain, someone who had convinced themselves of BEING the villain (even if an ironic way). It showed her in a new light, allowing the viewer to empathise with the character (which in many cases only increased the dissatisfaction).

My only complaint is that it was too sudden, but I also think it was a necessary evil, as Jax would’ve never opened up otherwise, it is also left pretty open-ended, with the beam of light at the end of the flashback, who knows, maybe they’ll bring her back.

Unfortunately sometimes suicidal characters die, and yes it could’ve been done better, Pomni should’ve been there for Jax, and not be mischaracterised, but not only were we in a time frame, it was necessary for the narrative, as mentioned earlier Jax would’ve never opened up otherwise.

In a perfect universe we would’ve seen more nuisance, and not a single moment with Gangle’s conflicting feelings. In a perfect universe, we would’ve seen the characters mourning (although I do think they aren’t because they haven’t given up hope - especially Pomni).

Overall this movie would’ve benefited from a longer run-time; but alas this is what we got - and it was a pretty okay ending.

Like I was there for the ST ending. This is completely different! El’s death hurt cause in her last moments she was reduced to a machine, not a human, and we were just supposed to accept that.

While Jax’s abstraction was created with so much care, it wasn’t just a way to get her out of the narrative, but it was a way to improve the narrative. Jax has been enigmatic from the first episode, her arc could only be closed by revealing to the audience why. And they did! As I say in the quoted post, it was a necessary evil, cause the Jax we know wouldn’t have ever opened up.

Hate to see another suicidal character die, but to me this showed that it can be done correctly. That their story can end with care and compassion.
