âI believed and I wanted simply to do it with McLarenâ
lando and mclaren in honor of the abu dhabi grand prix! the man with the axe by lorde
Lando didn't get a single lap deleted in the race.
From the first corner he was under immense pressure to win to win the WCC.
He drove a flawless race.
So to those who say he cant race under pressure.... Fuck you
mclaren 666 points. sinister, evil, and orange.
ABU DHABI GP 2024 | Post-Qualifying Press Conference
Job's not done, and Andrea will be happy that I say it, but, you know. I'm proud to be on this journey, to have been on it with McLaren for so many years.
penalties that havenât been used in years club
Lando finishing in points after a 35 second penalty is kinda stunting it
Woof woof woof
one direction will always be so so so bittersweet to me like they were such a foundation of my teenage years while at the same time those boys were spending most of their days trapped in hotel rooms or waking up at 2 am to record an album and non stop touring and working so much more than anyone let alone a bunch of teenage boys should work and its always been hard to reconcile those two realities especially on a day like today because god when they were good together, they were so good together.
and i just don't think anything like them will ever happen again. 5 boys from basically working class backgrounds thrust into a level of fame the height of which hadn't been seen for decades, all of them becoming the breadwinners of their families before the age of 18. the immense pressure but also the amount of fun they were. the tragedy and joy of it all intertwined. really impossible to put into words
i did not once ever have a full nightâs sleep from 2013-2015. nothing new to say that hasnât already been said but it was so fucking fun being a one direction fan while they were still releasing albums/touring. canât even put it into words or describe it. u were constantly terrorized while also having the best time of ur life.
Honestly thought Iâd be like 78 years old before Iâd get the news that a member of one direction died
ultimately what I want to remember is the impact Daniel had on F1. I don't want to count the wins (though 8 is already a lot), I want to count the fans. how many people got into the sport because of him? how many people were fans of Daniel first, fans of F1 second? how many people started with him as their favourite, how many people still have him as their favourite? how many people have his "enjoy the butterflies" quote as a lockscreen, as a tattoo? the impact he's had on the sport, in the last five years especially, cannot be brushed off or ignored. and no matter how much time passes, people who wish to get into F1 by binge-watching DTS will always start with his face. in that way, he has made a lasting mark onto the sport that will never be erased
mclaren Crunching the data ahead of tomorrow. đ
lando's answer to the question "what advice would you give to someone just starting out" is fascinating to me: "just keep grinding, i wouldn't say keep believing, because i think that's nonsense. i didn't believe i was going to be in f1, and i'm here, so i don't think you need to believe in yourself, to be honest. i think it helps, it's a good thing, but i don't think you need it. as long as you are working hard in the meantime, i think that's the most important thing."
it's just that lando's glass half empty attitude has been a constant talking point since he entered f1. he's made so many comments over the years that people noted as self-critical and pessimistic, and they assume that his attitude was what was blocking him from winning. but it seems that lando probably doesn't really agree with that, in that he thinks that what matters is doing the work, not giving up, no matter what you believeânot believing and doing the work anyway.
it can be frustrating as his fan who does believe so much in his potential. it's easy to want him to be more optimistic, to believe loudly in himself and correctly perform a "champion's mentality" as it is commonly understood. but it's part of what makes him my favorite driver that he has that relentless determination to try even when there are negative voices in his head. it's got a big "do it anyway, do it scared, do it without expectation of success" energy that i really like.
celebrity worship is the root and all evil except for the men me and my tumblrina girls choose to fixate on. theyre different and they dont count
hey siri, play youâre on your own kid by Taylor swift.
I think he meant to say Iâm a McLaren driver second, I drive for Oscar Piastri racing. I am very bothered with him and that team right now. I donât blame him for being hungry and wanting to do well but there is truly a bigger picture here and Lando seems to be the only driver in that team forced to look at it. Lando said during the parade that he wanted a team 1-2. Oscar said he just wanted to win. That attitude today cost McLaren points in both championships. Mclaren wouldnât be where they are today without Lando. The work and dedication he has put into this team for almost six years now and carrying this team for two and a half seasons so they could ensure their constructors standings and so Oscar could have the privilege to get a car like this so quick into his f1 career. There was a huge opportunity today for Lando to gain very important points on Max, he is literally in championship contention. It would have been so easy to tell Oscar to behave at the start and cover the cars behind you then you and Lando can race later. A smarter team would have but they wonât ever.
Edit: âYour gonna need the team and your gonna need Oscar.â Well yâall have shown today that yâall have no intention to make that happen. Going into this weekend after Zandvoort, this should have been the teamâs priority.
