Cellular Cartography

One of my most recent chemigrams. This piece is a visual study of an imagined cellular structure - a meditation on cytoplasm and membranes created by controlled chance, where photographic chemistry mimics biological forms.

Lately, I've been exploring new techniques in my analog experiments and started creating chemigrams on Fujifilm Instax Mini film. It's fascinating to see how photochemical reactions take control and create such organic, vividly colored, and completely abstract patterns on instant film. The process is entirely unpredictable, which is exactly why every single piece is unique and unrepeatable. Here is one of my favorites from this new series.

Judgement (Tarot) (My chemigram interpretation of the Tarot’s Judgement card)

Created for a group exhibition exploring Tarot through the medium of photography, this cameraless chemigram visualizes a deep inner calling and profound spiritual renewal.

The ethereal structure of the swirling concentric circles embodies the resonance of a celestial calling - the spiritual trumpet that invites us to deep self-reflection. The mysterious, bright center represents the higher power that makes this reckoning inevitable.

The hand reaching out from the dark carries the core message of the Judgement card: a gesture of resurrection and active action. It is not about passive acceptance, but a conscious decision to shed the burdens of the past and rise from the darkness toward the light.

The random yet controlled reactions of the chemigram technique perfectly mirror the unpredictability of karmic processes. This is where chemistry and fate meet.

Parallel universes

According to some theories, there is not only one but many different universes, each "could have happened" event generating a new parallel universe.

In the case of this pair of images, this "could have happened" event can be derived from the use of photographic chemicals (developer, fixer) in a different order: in this way, the background color of the images is artificially different in the two parallel chemigram universes, but this is not the only difference. Although the dimensions of the circles in the images are the same, they are mirror images of each other in terms of their positioning. The patterns of the circles in the two universes are also different, unique and unrepeatable.
