"go back it's a painting" being a meme on art circles is the proof that AI art catastrophising is pointless. This is an argument artists had 200 years ago, and the result was the same: identical images receive subjective value depending on how they were authored. A photograph can be beautiful, a photograph can be art, a machine that just captures the photons displayed in front of it, with decreasingly little human input, and that still many people will find a painting that looks exactly the same infinitely more impressive. The picture isn't valuable, the physical object or the visual stimulus or the synaptic pattern it generates in your brain; what's valuable is the story behind it. That's the same for collectables, and tcg cards, and fanfiction, and sunflowers lovingly pressed between books for no reason beyond capturing the ephemeral beauty of its petals. The value of art is metaphysical, it is the act of defying the 4th dimension by dragging the intangible across time, and no machine will take it away even if it can generate a trillion paintings. They will develop their own form of value, just like cameras did. But human art is irreplaceable.

TLDR Isreal has cut off all water, electricity and telecommunications within Gaza in a complete blackout and Gaza has lost their voice. Israel has already threatened to bomb Al Shifa hospital, which is currently a shelter for around 50k-60k Palestinians. These are images of Gaza Strip from an HOUR AGO. They are literally slaughtering and wiping out generations of Palestinians as we speak.

Some people have been interested in how this was made - I am extremely bad at explaining but I’ll try to give a quick rundown!
First I draw the individual parts in a 2d art program, in this case procreate. I put an overlay texture that gives it some grittiness. As you can see I separated out the parts I planned to move a little bit, like the top and bottom jaw, eyes, wings, and body segments.
Each part of the texture is applied to a 2d plane through uv maps with the exception of the halo, which is 3d modeled.
The 2d planes are layered in a way that will create shadow when a light is added and avoid overlaps when rendered. This also really lends to the papercut aspect!
Animation for this particular piece is done through something called “shape keys” where blender will interpolate movement based on me slightly moving the individual parts.
I created several keys for different areas of motion. When all are combined it creates a nice effect. Some parts move smoother than others - this is due to me setting some keys to be “constant” instead of “bezier smoothed”.
(Oh also the halo is just rotated on an axis - 3d go brrrrr)
After rendering all the frames into a gif, I then threw it into a video editor to make the colors more contrasted and to add slight glitching and behold! Final product!
Hopefully that helps out some for people who want to try it. Or for people who are just curious!
