breaking news everyone: I love them
OK so I don’t post on ESC on this blog and this might be the only time I do so but Elena Tsangrinou’s El Diablo (the CY entry) caused quite the war with the (medieval) Greek Orthodox Church of Cyprus and the following happened:
Fanatical Greek Orthodox groups kept protesting against the song, claiming that it ‘glorifies the devil’;
They even threatened to burn down CyBC (or RIK - our public broadcaster);
Some guy came damn close to actually doing that once but then was removed from the building grounds by the security;
The priests and religion teachers kept preaching against the song; (friendly note: our church believes that homosexuality is a crime, abortion is murder, the COVID vaccines have this microchip that changes your DNA and that COVID is a hoax overall);
Some TV persona who looks like your average 60-year-old neighbor who feeds the stray cats and bakes cookies and claims to be… pretty much everything (from doctor to global analyst to religion scientist) suggested that the words ‘El Diablo’ are replaced by ‘Sotiria’ (Greek for ‘salvation’ and also a woman’s name) and all the satirical shows kept making fun of her about it;
A news broadcaster once spoke on live TV with a protestor and he counted down all the Greek songs that mention the devil just to show to the protestor that he’s being stupid;
The song rose damn high in the ESC polls worldwide.

“Lovely light, lovely moment “He loves me, he loves me not” captured by our Anne With An E S3 DP Catherine Lutes . As tranquil as this scene looks, little Butterscotch was quite fed up by the end with us asking him to stay put and behave when all he wanted to do was frolic! 🐴 cute little colt!” - Moira Walley-Beckett, Anne With An E Showrunner and Creator on Instagram

“It was nice seeing people in Edinburgh (and other parts of Scotland) mourning Philip. He was the Duke of Edinburgh after all and spent his formative years at Gordonstoun in Moray.” - Submitted by Anonymous
I live less than an hour away from Gordonstoun and they actually threw a wreath into the sea for him with a lone piper there (wish I could have gone), beautiful tribute for him. He did frequent coming up to the Moray area too I believe.
“A very touching moment when Philip’s driving carriage arrived with his cap, whip and gloves. Not to mention the sugar lump pot which he used to treat his ponies.” - Submitted by Anonymous
