Week 6 Do You Really Work at Your Work?
The Simple answer to this question is yes, I work at my work. I interpret this to mean a few different things. “Working” at work can mean doing the work that the company pays you to do, whether it is physical, mental, or both. It also can mean, are you “working out” with your work, as in, do you fit in with the job requirements, coworkers, and the company.
I would say that my actual work consists of both physical and intellectual work. It is an office job, where typically there is little to no physical work, but I spend much time acting as a go-to assistant for my CIO. This means I spend all day running throughout the building, and walking to other buildings from one meeting to the next. The majority of my time however, is spent behind my desk conducting research and analysis. I would break my usual work day down into 20% physical (travel back and forth) and 80% intellectual (mind) desk work.
As far as “working” in terms of fitting in with my company, I again would say yes I work. I have worked for almost 2 years at my job and feel that I am a good fit with coworkers, team members, and the position that I work in. While this was not the case in my first few months, I have become accustomed to my responsibilities, and the people that I conduct business with on a daily basis.
There are some, however, that might argue that I do not really do work in my job. As a student I am in a research and learning role within the department, and im sure that there are people that think I have no business being here, or that I am not experienced enough to be working with them.
