Band RPF Academic Study

Calling all the multilingual Band RPF writers! Have you ever wondered how English affects your writing?

Are you a multilingual writer who relies on fandom to improve their English? I want to hear your stories!

About the study:

This research is for a Master’s dissertation in Applied Multilingualism at the University of Galway. I am investigating how multilingual band RPF writers learn and improve their English through writing fanfiction. The goal of this research is to understand the impact of participatory culture of fandom has in your English writing.

Inclusion criteria:

You write band RPF.

English is NOT your native language.

You produce your band fanfictions in English.

You must be 18 years of age or older.

Note: Native English language speakers and those who learned English from birth or at home will be excluded from the research.

Further information:

Participation is voluntary! Your name and any identifying details will not be used in the research and they will not be shared with anyone.

You can choose your own pseudonym for the study, or opt for me to assign you a nickname.

The study will consist of two hour-long digital interviews.

“We’d found a great photographer for the album cover. He was so helpful and encouraging and it was bloody boiling at the circus school off Ventura Boulevard so it could have been a tricky day. Mark had bought a great big thick 900-quid book and we’d seen a shot on a tightrope with a beautiful sky behind it. That was it. You always want your album cover to stand out. Our label buys up big advertising spots and with the Beautiful World the backsground colour of the yellow had really stood out, so we wanted something similar and striking this time. The idea of a blue sky in the middle of winter, when the record came out, was really appealing. I had to have a little slug of Jack Daniel’s before I got on the trapeze.
