Inspired by Season 3’s “Lottie-Pop”, Lottie (in her late 30s) is a famous pop star, who agrees to a PR relationship with her teenage crush- Natalie. Lottie works alongside Akilah, who happens to be Nat’s superstar ex. In the midst of Lottie’s career plateau, Gen (her assistant) tries to protect her interests while Lottie explores the complexities of multiple relationships (including Mari, Melissa, Laura Lee, Misty & Shauna). Chaos ensues as everyone learns more about themselves.

It was nice of Akilah to drive me to the annual technology-free day event. Misty had added all of us to a private work chat with an announcement that the Away Day was upon us. It was apparently a way of building camaraderie between Shipman employees. Attendance was mandated. Akilah’s car was pristine, as if she had rolled it straight out of the showroom. A red Lamborghini with a personalised plate - AK1. I spotted her Chloé bag in the backseat. She smelt good but I couldn’t pinpoint her perfume. She revved her engine for fun when her song started playing on the radio. She asked me to change the station. The next station played Yellowjackets’s new song- no reaction from either of us. I would only mention Natalie if she said something first.

Which fandoms need a lesbian Asian fic writer?

As an Asian writer, I’ve always felt not entitled to writing stories depicting Black female characters and their experiences. But then again I might do a disservice by not writing anything at all.

There’s so many- Jehosheba, Taissa and Kimberly.

Your dialogue is stiff because everyone is being too honest

Great dialogue can come from radical emotional honesty. But in most real conversations, people

dodge questions

answer indirectly

lie (badly)

change the subject

crack jokes to avoid serious answers

lie (convincingly)

say half of what they mean

tell the truth but get so anxious/angry/defensive others now think they're lying

If your dialogue feels unnatural, it might be because everyone is saying exactly what they think, or articulating their thoughts too well. Try letting characters hide things instead.

Subtext is where tension lives.

I hadn’t expected to see Mari so soon but she whisked me into a random alley. A few blocks from the music venue. Part of me did want to get caught but I knew how much the PR relationship meant to everyone at Shipman. There was a streetlight which probably needed a clean but it reminded me of those crime noir movies. Mari finally received the sexy selfie that was accidentally sent to Natalie. Mari pushed me against the wall, I could hear water trickling from a nearby pipe. I could feel a light breeze tonight and Mari’s knee wedged between my legs.

if you're sitting on a fanfic idea because you think it's "too weird" or "too niche" I need you to understand something: the internet is VAST and FULL of people with your exact brand of weird. that crackship that makes sense only to you? there are at least 50 people who will read it and go "oh my god FINALLY." but even if there were ZERO? you still deserve to write the thing that makes your brain light up.
