Yeah, I get what you mean. There was definitely a weird sweet spot where we got the best of both worlds, outside most of the time but still getting to watch all the tech slowly roll in. No wonder it feels like everything sped up after that. And hey, Iām not going to pretend Iām thrilled about the big 4-0 creeping closer either, but I also kind of refuse to believe weāre at the ātime should stopā stage yet. That feels dramatic, even for me. If anything, I think we just need better distractions. Like food, good company, or in my case, trying not to keep every cool thing that comes into my shop for myself.
We were a Miley Cyrus song personified. Living in the best of both worlds. And that's easy for you to say. You don't have to worry about your biological clock running out so freezing time doesn't affect you too much. Me, on the other hand? I am approaching 'spinster on the shelf' age. And before you start, yes, I know thatās dramatic. But every time another celebrity my age announces theyāre pregnant with their fifth child while Iām over here debating whether cereal counts as dinner, I have a tiny existential crisis about it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love it all.
Of course, Sammy! Did you have a good birthday? What did you end up doing for the day? I'm glad you loved it so much. I'm always nervous getting y'all gifts, but I figured I couldn't go wrong with these particular gifts.
Okay, maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I am begging people to stop treating every new superhero casting like itās a blood feud between generations. I saw a post comparing the Man of Steel cast to James Gunnās Superman cast, and the comments were acting like only one version is allowed to exist at a time. Likeā¦thatās the whole point of these stories being retold? Every generation gets their Superman. Their Batman. Their Lois Lane. Their version of hope, heroism, humanity, whatever. Itās not some betrayal of the older films for a new cast to step into those roles. Itās the passing of the torch. Thatās how storytelling works. And honestly? Most of the actors people pit against each other did phenomenal in their own right. Different interpretations do not automatically equal bad interpretations. Now, with that being said ā Christopher Reeve is obviously in his own category entirely. That man is Superman. I donāt make the rules. That's just how it is.
Mercedes might have said it best when she said we had the golden era. Though you can't go wrong with timeless or classic. And hey, I'm right up there with ya, Lots. Come October and I'll only be a year away from the big 4-0. Granted, I didn't go through nearly half of what you did growing up.
Mercedes is absolutely correct in saying that we had the golden era. We grew up in an era where the technology didn't control our lives. We played outside. We had actual conversations in person. We (okay, not me, but still) ate together as a family, even if it was in front of the tv or something like that. But then we also grew up in the era where technology really started blossoming. It really was the Golden Era. And even if you didn't go through what I did growing up, we're still getting closer to that big 4-0. I hate it. I feel like time should just stop so we never get any older.
Guys, you know what really hurts me in my soul right now? GameStop has officially declared the PS3, Wii, and X-Box 360 all retro consoles. And don't get me wrong, as someone who quite literally owns and runs a vintage shop, I know that when an item hits the 20 year mark, it's officially considered vintage but... my dudes, I was like a senior in high school when these consoles first came out. I gotta say it, I really feel like a dinosaur right now.
You shut your mouth right now! We are not old! We are vintage. Classic. Timeless.
I had just enlisted a few months before the PS3 came out. I had tested out of high school early to help provide for my siblings. And I don't even want to think about the fact that in about two years I can no longer say I'm in my thirties. It's not fair.
Okay. So.
A little bird told me one of the lower level magisterial district court judges is retiring this year, and there's going to be a seat up for election soon. Like. This year. In November.
On a scale of one to ten, how much of a stupid idea would it be for me to try to get on the ballot?
I don't think that'd be a bad idea in the least! I think you'd be a fair and impartial judge. Though, that means you wouldn't be able to practice law while in office, so what are your plans for the practice?
Donāt know why but Iāve been on such a zombie game kick lately. Got myself set up nicely on 7 Days to Die but then decided to jump back on Dead Island 2. Playing as the āfirefighterā of course. Ha
Anyhoot. Howās everyone holding up?
Zombie games are some of the best games, though, so you can't really be too upset about it. I'm glad that I'm not the only one on a zombie game kick lately, though. I just finished doing a run-through of The Last of Us Part I and II, and now I'm trying to decide between Red Dead Redemption and Resident Evil. I've never played the Left 4 Dead games, though, so I've also go an eye on that. How's the plot in the Dead Island games?
I was at the store picking up some weekend essentials, and I saw a girl sprint to the other side of the car, climb in and buckle herself up, laughing maniacally the whole time, all the while her guy was just nonchalantly walking towards the car, shaking his head the whole time. When he got close enough, I could hear him saying "Nope, absolutely not". I thought he wanted to be a passenger princess or something, but nope. He opened the door, unbuckled her, full on made her get out, shut the door, and then opened it and held open the door for her to get in. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone take being a gentleman quite that seriously.
Filing this under āThings Nick absolutely DOES NOT NEED, but holy hell does it fit the brand.ā Never wished I lived in Massachusetts before, but thereās a first time for everything, I guess, š¤·š½āāļø
Whoās gonna supply me with a literal bucket of iced coffee, and thus earn my undying love and devotion?
I may or may not (but definitely did, who are we kidding) have figured out which Dunkin' in MA are selling the buckets, and there will be a road trip happening in the near future. I don't need your love or devotion, though. You can save that, and I'll trade it for a favor in the future.
It's not actually screaming, it's air escaping their shells, biologically they don't have the parts required to scream. If they do feel pain (a debated topic) upon being boiled, it lasts for a minute at most, but typically no more than 45 seconds. There are ways to kill them prior to boiling that is seen as quick and effective without them having the time to decompose, which is why they're cooked alive in the first place. Not that you have to change your stance on such things, but just some info for you.
As a lawyer, and just my general self, I love having information so I would never judge on that front. I didn't know that about lobsters, though, so it's helpful to know. I didn't know they don't have lungs to breathe/scream. I think my stance in general would have to stay the same, though, until I know whether or not they actually feel pain. If they don't feel pain, that's not quite as bad then. Still weird to consider, but not as bad. But if they do feel pain, then I still have to say I'd probably never be one to eat another lobster. Can you imagine being completely submerged in boiling water from head to toe for 45 seconds to a minute? That would be torture.
I've heard about it, actually might have seen it on a tv show or something. But since I'm already not much of a seafood kind of guy, I thankfully won't ever have to hear it in person, myself. Kind of makes you want to go free any lobsters you see in the seafood sections of the grocery stores though, doesn't it? Though I don't think they do that anymore...
I don't know if they sell them in stores anymore. I don't think I've seen them in stores recently, it was definitely more common when we were younger, but now I think it's more likely you'll see them in Red Lobster or restaurants with fresh seafood and such. It definitely makes me want to go break into a Red Lobster, though. Save the crustacean babies!
What could someone do this Valentineās to make you feel special?
Honestly? Keep it simple and intentional. I donāt need grand gestures or anything flashy ā Iād rather have someone who actually knows me. A plan that shows thought went into it, even if itās small. Coffee from my favorite place, a home-cooked meal, a playlist made with care, or just uninterrupted time together without distractions. That said, Iām single and not dating anyone, so my current Valentineās plan is...probably a quiet night in with takeout, Sunnydale, and Winchester. No complaints, honestly. If someone wanted to make me feel special, itād be less about the day itself and more about showing up and being present.

Do you think age differences in relationships are a big deal?
From a legal standpoint, it does matter. You can't be 15 dating a 28 year old or some shit like that. From a personal standpoint, though, as long as both parties are of legal age then it doesn't really matter much. There's a certain maturity level that I think would cause problems for people with major age differences, but ultimately - with very few exceptions - if it's between two consenting adults, then their relationship is their business. For myself, I don't know if I could date anyone that was five or more years younger than myself. I've never dated anyone that much younger than myself, but still. I don't know. It would depend on the person, I suppose. It's different when you're older, though. Once you've passed 30 (or are almost 40 in my case š), it's less about 'dating' and more about 'settling down'. So...in a long, roundabout way - the answer is 'yes and no'.
