“so what if you ‘gently tapped’ it?” elodie held up air quotations with her words. “you could have done some damage, whether you meant to or not, and i think you meant to.” she swallowed and glared at her sister. “stop lou, just STOP.” her arms crossed her chest and she let out a huff. she did not want to be having this conversation with her sister.

       ‘   THAT’S RIGHT  ---  i totally meant to. ’    elodie clearly knew nothing about lou,      if she had wanted to dent the car,    it would currently be rocking a boot sized dent.    she’s nearly broken that guys nose in bali.    ‘   in fact  i sought out blue’s car specifically. ’    eyes wide,    she scoffs.    the defence mechanism in full swing.   ‘ that’s the kind of terrible person i am. ’ maybe that’d put a smile on her sisters face.

“I think you’ll care when he sends you a check for “damage to his car”, or a court summons.” Lee shrugged. It was a bit of an exaggeration; he doubted the guy who the car belonged to was even watching them right now. “Okay, cute maybe wasn’t the right word. You are kind of hot, but that is completely inappropriate and I should stop talking now.”

       ‘ I THINK I WILL TOO  ’      a court summons ... she bites her lip.    adding another thing to her criminal record probably wasn’t the smartest idea.       though compared to punching a guy  & getting deported,    it was nothing.      she smiles menacingly as the male digs himself in to a bigger hole,    ‘ you   REALLY  should  ---  but at least you recognise that. ’   now she didn’t need to kick him too.

an eyebrow raises. what was THAT supposed to mean? aviva supposes it’s just like her question ; it wasn’t supposed to come out of the others mouth ( she can only assume, anyways ). the possible murder of her parents remains a giant storm cloud over life life and the brunette cannot seem to let it go. it’s been ten years, aviva. stop obsessing. be there for algernon, he needs you. and yet..here she was, making weekend trips back to her hometown and getting doors slammed in her face. “but we can’t really control what others do, can we?’ it’s not exactly theoretical, though she knows it might sound the opposite. “shit just sucks.” as if that wasn’t the understatement of the god damn year.

         SHIT JUST SUCKS.       how could a three word phase sum things up so perfectly?    her parents die in a car crash?     shit just sucks.     half her family hate her?     shit just sucks.    how simple it would be to be able to take that mentality.    that just wasn’t an option for lou  &  it didn’t seem to be an option for the other woman either.     she knew this behaviour well.   ‘ work out your own   salvation,     do  not  depend on others. ’     the buddhist quote rolled of her tongue yet the words felt false.    as if she were trying to convince herself more than anyone --  ‘ though even i have to admit,    that   shit   ain’t easy.  ’       she sighs,   snapping back in to reality,   ‘ c’est la vie.  ’

at her silence, he put his hands back his hoodie pockets and waited. a sign, a signal, a cue. what was her waiting for exactly? well, bryce isn’t totally sure..but something to tell him that it wasn’t either a good or bad thing to ask. eyebrows raise at the statement though bryce does nothing to speak again, more waiting commences. “why is blue the one reminding you?” he’s confused. what did blue have to do with anything of the abernathy siblingship? was elodie keeping things from him again? “’m sure you’re doing just fine.” he’s not sure, but it seems like the right thing to say. after all, he doesn’t know.

      ‘   NO IDEA.  ’     she shrugs,    putting her hands in her own pockets to mirror bryce’s stance.  recently she’s been in a constant state of cluelessness.    though she’s spent too much time away not to be.      blue was in a relationship with her brother,    yes,    but sometimes she had to wonder whether he was more angry than shea.     which made    zero    sense.     ‘ i think he likes showing shea how   loyal  &  supportive   he is  ---  kinda like how a dog brings toys to their owner.  ’      did she just call her brothers boyfriend a dog?      what shea doesn’t know...  lou raises an eyebrow,     ‘ i could be doing worse i suppose.    i’m not quite at   baby jane  levels yet.  ’

“you KICKED the car lou!” she let out an sigh and threw her hands up from a moment. the relationship between her and loud could best be described as rocky –– if whatever was between them could be called a relationship. deep down she did love her sister, but that love was covered with a thick layer of resentment. “yeah but that doesn’t mean you have to damage stuff, especially stuff that doesn’t even BELONG to you.”

       ‘   I GENTLY    tapped it.  ’      she bites her lip before smiling cautiously.    diffusing the tension was something lou had  never  been good at.     she’d tried it so many times with her father,   a casual joke in between the arguments that just made that vein on his head protrude from his skin.     she doubts it will work on elodie either,     ‘ i said i was sorry!      what more is it going to take! ’    she’s talking about more that just the car now.

“Why would someone throw away a parking fine? Don’t they keep records of them, so throwing them away is a bit redundant?” She hadn’t necessarily meant to pose the question, and she wasn’t certain what she said was even correct - but it wasn’t as if she could take the words back at that point. “Then again… some people do the weirdest things that make no sense. So I guess it wouldn’t be too out of the ordinary for someone to throw away a ticket.” 

      ‘  WHY?    oh,    i don’t know. ’    she stutters slightly,     as if she can’t answer the question.   maybe,   there were many people who,   like lou,   believed that if you ignored a problem for long enough,    it would go away.      though that hadn’t proven to be the case recently.   ‘ yeah... pretty weird ’     did they really keep records?    ‘ if you’re right then,    i should    probably   start paying them. ’

gemma wondered how long she could keep a straight face for, quite honestly she felt shocked that she didn’t choke up quite yet. she was simply curious as to what the other’s reaction would be. gem rested a hand on her hip, eyes narrowing on her while she sipped her coffee. once she was done speaking, gem cleared her throat. “okay, right. actually i’m just kidding–that’s not my car.” she observed their surroundings before lightly kicking the bumper as well. 

     ‘  THANK GOD! ’     her entire face softens,    that tough exterior she’d just been wearing with pride dissolving in seconds.      sure,    lou could be quite aggressive at times,    but conflict was  not something she was a fan of    (  surprisingly  )  conflict just seemed to find her.    ‘ so i don’t need to pretend that it was an accident right?  ’     not that anyone would believe she    accidentally   knocked the car with her foot.    ‘ now you’re an accomplice,   by the way. ’

the urged to raise an eyebrow at the words is resisted and bryce isn’t exactly sure how he should respond to it. he didn’t know much about lou  — elodie didn’t talk much about her family, and he respected that  — and he knew much less about her relationships with others. it’s not his business, anyways. when she moves back, he does too, not wanting to be the next victim of her rage ( ? ). “what do you mean?” eyebrows furrow as he tries to think of possible things the abernathy would’ve done to piss off blue. “what’d you do?”

      WHAT DID SHE MEAN?       how much time did the male have?     she could attempt to sum up the past few years of her life to him ---  but she wasn’t in a place emotionally to go through all that.    even if she was,    she’d rather not air her dirty laundry in public.    she notices the male step back   &  gets the feeling that he’s doing so out of caution.    not that she can blame him,  she can get rather    intense    when she gets going.     ‘  i can’t even answer that question. ’   not without turning bryce against her anyway,     ‘ i haven’t been the best sister as of late  --- blue likes to remind me.  ’

      ❛  i’m sorry ? ❜    he spoke, annoyance dripping off his lips as he walked towards the car with an angry female screaming something about a cow. a few steps forward and he noticed her foot lift up and drag it across his baby.        ❛  what the fuck –– ❜    he practically yelled as he glanced over at the girl. god, he knew exactly who this was.         ❛  lou ? what the fuck ? are you kidding me ? ❜ the backpack slung across his shoulders from his tutoring session as he practically dropped it to the ground.          ❛  the hell is wrong with you ? you can’t just go around fucking destroying other people’s property like you’re the fucking earth police. ❜   

SHIT.      the first though that enters her mind is how fast an exit she can make.    if she dashed across the street in true roadrunner fashion,    she might just get away without blue noticing who she was  ---   or maybe not.       she pauses,    planning her next move carefully.    one foot out of place    &   she could end up with    zero    siblings.    having elodie hate her was bad enough.      ‘  karma’s really fucking with me today.  ’    she mutters under her breath before eyeing blue cautiously,     ‘  i’m guessing this is your car?     small world ... ’

Walking back home, she stilled as she heard the exclamation, mentally trying to decide if it was more bemusing or strange. Eyes widening as the other kicked the car, finally kicking her mind into gear. “I have no idea whose car it is. Maybe you could… Leave them a note explaining their poor life choices? Or you know, the sticker could have come from a disapproving family member, who wanted to guilt trip the owner into rethinking what type of car they drove.” 

       ‘  THAT SOUNDS---   like something i would do. ’      she stops for a moment to think.  it wasn’t exactly  passive aggressively mooing behind people eating burgers,     but it would probably help get the message across.      then again,    ‘ i think most people would assume it was a parking fine  &  throw it away.  ’        which she had   totally   never done before.

“it’s ––” elodie began to answer her sister before being interrupted. she knew whose it was and she knew that blue was NOT going to be happy about her talking about it like that. “yes, yes i get it. it sounds like a bad idea. but blue is also the smartest person i know so he wouldn’t buy a dumb car,” she tried interject into lou’s ranting. “lou!” she yelled, “you cant just DO that!”

      ‘  WHAT,    i barely even touched it !  ’      she turns ready for a fight,    hair catching the wind as if she were a model.  as soon as she sees elodie her entire face softens.    she closes her eyes to process the situation.  as if one wrong move could  shatter  the already fractured relationship she has with her sister.   ‘ el... ’    she pinches the bridge of her nose,    ‘  i’m sorry.  you know how i get with things i care about. ’

the EMT looks on with his partner and he can’t help the laugh that escapes him, motioning for his partner to go wait in the truck. ‘’or putting the cow on anything meat related. how about putting a pig on the box of bacon?’’ antonio shrugs, looking on. ‘’don’t fault the car. find the OWNER of the car, humilate them then– y’know.. destroy the car.’’

      ‘   EQUALLY HORRIBLE ---  don’t even get me started on chic-fil-a  ’     she flashes a rare smile,    though even that only graces half of her face.    at least someone seems to understand.    he’s most likely humouring her,   she reminds herself.    oh well.   ‘  they do say humiliation builds character.  ’     said  no one  ever.

Iggy stared at the older, his eyebrow raising slightly as he watched her kick the car. He stepped forward, his arms wrapping around himself. “Did you just kick that person’s car? Isn’t that something you can get in trouble for?”

      ‘  MAYBE ...  ’      she shrugs,   the concept of getting in to trouble had slipped her mind.    she could say she had   other things to think about.    though she’d rather not launch in to that conversation with her brother in the street.    ‘  they’re lucky i’m an occasionally practising buddha  ---   otherwise it might’ve been a baseball bat.  ’

Lee didn’t know what to say as he watched the woman talk. Or rather yell. He decided it might be nice to say something when he watched her kick someone’s car. “Hey, uh, its not my car, but I don’t think its safe to kick it. The owner of that car is some rich asshole and I don’t think he’ll like you kicking his car. No matter how cute you are.” He wished he could slap himself for saying that last sentence. It was not appropriate.

         ‘   FRANKLY,     i don’t care what he likes.  ’      she liked living in a world that wasn’t doomed to be under water in the future.    that   rich asshole   doesn’t seem to care about that.  okay,  maybe it wasn’t the best idea to kick the mans car.    violence tends to go against everything she believes in    &   it was    kind of    the reason she wasn’t in bali right now.   the thought alone made her sad.       ‘   cute ...   am i a puppy or  something?  ’

“probably mr. noctrun or blues.” meaning whitley blue montgomery, and had the male actually been here he would’ve just said whitley  —  for the sake of pissing him off, of course  —  but he isn’t sure if the abernathy would know his friends actual first name. bryce is confused as to just what the fuss is over but he can’t really hear her ( he only heard her the first time because it was yelling ) but he stops, hands in his pockets and bag slung over his shoulder after walking home from rehearsal.  eyes watch as she accidentally kicks the car, shrugging. “just don’t let him know y’did that. might pop a blood vessel in his head.”

       ‘   GROSS.  ’    her face scrunched up,    partly at the idea of some rich male  casually destroying the planet.       partly because the idea of kicking blue’s car was not a good one.    he already disliked her for some strange reason   ---  scratch that,    she knew exactly why he disliked her.   the more she thought about that reason though,   the more she wanted to kick the car;   with a lot more force this time.     instead she closes her eyes   & counts to three.   calm,  in control.   she smiles.   ‘ yeah,   probably not the best idea.  ’    she takes a step back from the car as if she were never near it,     ‘ as much as it frustrates me.  i’m already in his bad books . ’

one perk of gemma’s fairly new apartment was that a coffee shop was in walking distance from the building. she stopped in for a much needed coffee-to-go on an afternoon weekday. as gem started making her way back to the apartment, she couldn’t help but notice a young woman who seemed to be in some type of distress. hesitantly approaching the other, gem quirked an eyebrow. “ma’am… did you just, kick my car?” she was one hundred percent joking.

      ‘   YOUR CAR ...   ’     she hesitates,    momentarily questioning whether the girl was being serious.   she just didn’t look like a ... no lou,   don’t judge a book by it’s cover.     clearing her throat,   lou puts on her game face,      ‘ yes ---  i kicked you car.  ’     that isn’t illegal as far as she’s aware.    unless the bumper is damaged.   her eyes fall down ,     unfortunately  it was still in perfect condition.    ‘  it was an accident.   no damage done ---   can’t say the same for the ozone layer though.  ’
