Sneak peek for chapter 5...
Roz love to notice new things about fink. She point them out to him every days. Like how the color of his fur change depending of the light, or how the full moon reflects perfectly in his pupils, or his constantly changing expressions and quirks, or the way is ears flicker when he's deep in thoughts and the sounds he makes when he's caught off-guard, and-
And fink doesn't understand. Why she's never tired of looking at him, why she repeats those things every day with the same enthusiasm, why she act like he's a blessing to the world just for existing.
And roz would respond with unquestionable logic that everyday, she watch the sunset color the sky, she smell the flowers, she count the colors of the butterflies, she looks at the clouds and observes how they slowly morph into different shapes, she admire the rain drops slowly dripping off the leaves. And everyday she savour those moments all the same. Fink is just another one of nature's wonder.
And fink doesn't understand, but sometimes he catches himself staring at her for a little too long, trying to decipher her weird body language, feeling some amount of pride when he anticipate her reactions. So maybe he's the weird one for keeping it a secret. Maybe they're both weirdos for being so fascinated with each other. Maybe there's a word for it. Maybe they'll figure this out someday.
This is such a wonderful interpretation of the love that these two share. Whether or not you see their relationship as familial, platonic, or romantic, it's not hard to miss the gentle adoration they share for one another, soft and imperceptible, but it's there and it exists and perhaps that is enough. Enough to explain what they've been through, how they care for one another, all the things that had gone unsaid. And perhaps they don't need much else because they're complete together, and they are enough as is.
So so painfully saccharine, genuinely my favourite part of their relationship to analyze. It's laid out so subtly in the movies that, of course, it's the fanbase's job to squint at these signs and magnify them in a way the story couldn't.
I can't wait to include this in the fanfiction I'm writing.
How do you know if you love something? Some...one?
If you do, you... should probably tell them.
What if it's already too late?
...I wouldn't know.
The wild robot x the little prince
The colors and lighting are lovely, absolutely adore The Little Price reference!
You don't have to say it back. But I wish you would.
I'll never admit it. That I need you a lot more than you need me. I hate how powerless you make me feel.
OH MY DAYS IM GONNA SOB ITS ALL I EVER WANTED OUT OF THESE TWO
Fink in the red poppys
I saw how much y’all loved my previous art of Fink and was inspired to do another!!! He’s so fun to draw and paint!!!!!! 🍃🦊💐
It's crazy how many ideas and analysises and thoughts and passions are bouncing through my head right now like little ping pong balls, and they keep making that clicking sound as they repeatedly hit the ground, and I want to talk, I want to share what I have, but I'm constricted by the state of the world in the name of survival, and I want nothing more than to be alive, but how can I be? I need to succeed and be recognized, and I cannot achieve that via happiness, but wait, I can because the Lord has a purpose for me and He loves me and He bestowed the heart that beats within my ribcage and the flesh that bleeds and the tears that fill my schlera, and He WANTS me to be happy, loves me beyond I can comprehend, so I will love Him and love the life He gave me, and I will try my best because I love living and I love Him and I am loved and I am breathing and bloody and alive.
Tl;dr, this is me
That moment when you're confused about what your goose son is talking about, so you look to your fox husband for help, but he doesn't know what's going on either (you're surrounded by idiots and you love them with all your being, unfortunately)
Thinking about how FASCINATING of a decision it was for the movie to make Fink such an integral character, and how that would subsequently effect the sequels.
Now, Fink is ABSOLUTELY 100% my favourite addition to TWR's movie adaption. Like. Movie-would-not-be -the-same level decision here. So happy they did that. BUT it's also like. I wonder how they're going to approach the 2nd book?
The second book is, by far, my FAVOURITE installment in the book series (haven't fully read the 3rd book, but its premise didn't capture me as much as the first two books; still wonderful though), but because of the fact Fink isn't even a supporting character (more like an important bg character) in the 1st book, he doesn't really appear a lot in the series. Plus, the events of the story make it so that even if he WERE, it would be impossible for him to be truly involved unless Peter Brown rewrote/added some major scenes, which would MASSIVELY change the direction of the book.
I'm just so curious how Chris Sanders and the writing team would approach this hurdle. Eliminating Fink from the story and making him another islander would be a HORRIBLE writing decision, but making him a part of Brightbill and Roz's shenanigans (no spoilers) would feel way too... out there (?) for such a grounded, down-to-earth story. The movie does take a more sci-fi approach, so I suppose they could work with that, but it would clash with its setting and its established characteristics a lot, especially if they decide to meddle the wild and civilization together in such a way. The books keep the two settings pretty separate, and I really hope they keep it that way.
As for what I DO want to see in the 2nd movie in regards to Fink's character - I need to see that darn fox to fully ACCEPT that he loves Roz. Like that kind of love that runs deeper than simple friendship; deep connection that bonds them as family, without need for labels or justification.
I do believe that Fink realizes he cares for Roz pretty early on in the movie, but it takes until the very end for him to admit it out loud. His character arc, although very very subtle in comparison to Roz and Brightbill, sets itself up perfectly to continue through the sequel. Learning to let down your guard and love those who see you, understand you, and opening up yourself despite the risk of getting hurt because these people LOVE you, and you realize the risk is worth it because you love them, too. It's just. Ugh. So GOOD.
In relation to this - love confession, but like, platonic. I don't think romance would really fit into the story's narrative - which, don't get me wrong, I adore shipping and there's nothing wrong if you ship any of the characters - but it would do the movie so good to explore the familial love that runs through this silly found family.
Fink clearly wants to know if Roz loves him, as we see at the end of the movie. Roz, despite all her character development, is still pretty oblivious and doesn't really realize Fink cares for her that way, in the same way she didn't realize Brightbill genuinely viewed her as family and not a "survival partner." Seeing Fink actually proclaim this, and Roz saying it back, would be so so gratifying. It would transition very smoothly into the 3rd movie, too, since the found family arc would be completed, and the story would have more room to experiment with their dynamic when they're all fully warmed up to each now (and are in one place together FINALLY).
Finally, Fink and Brightbill relationship. I don't think these two are traditionally father-son, but there IS a paternal love going on, and it would be amaaaazing if the 2nd movie explored this more. Fink and Brightbill's relationship is significantly less developed than Roz and Brightbill's, and Roz's distance and conflict would bring these two closer in the same way "the accident" did for mother and son.
I'll also discuss my thoughts on Roz's character arc in the 2nd movie because I have SOOO many, so keep out for that. Brightbill will be next after that mwahahah
Fink resting for a bit in some violets under a canopy of trees! This had no right almost taking 3 hours man istg LMAO. Anyways I hope y’all enjoy this Fink art! 🫶💜💙🩵

As a society, we need to go back to understanding that strangers on the internet are, you know, strangers. I feel lately that I'm seeing a rise in 'An author I love blocked me because they took my comment the wrong way' posts on the ao3 subreddit, and then the comment is them calling the author a fucking bitch or something like that.
Don't do this. Tone doesn't translate well in text, and if you don't have a rapport with that author, they are not going to interpret, 'You're a fucking bitch' as, 'Author I hate you for being so talented and making me feel so keenly.' They're going to interpret it as you being an asshole. You can shit talk with your friends because you have an established relationship with them and can distinguish between playful banter and genuine anger. You do not have this with a stranger, no matter how much you like their fics. You will have a much more pleasant time in fandom and not get cockblocked from interacting with your favorite writers if you remember this.
It started out as a joke but I don't think I can call it that anymore...
GUYS I WANT YOU TO STARE AT THIS AND LIKE IT AND MUNCH AND AND AND
