The curtain rises
For the feet who have seen the stage a thousand times
The lights, the audience, the tinkering bells
You glide effortlessly across the stage, painting your own story
Suddenly the feet quiver, tied by invisible strings
The clock, never-ending, ticks once, twice, thrice and the feet continue their pace
Until the drop of the curtains
Where your smile falters and eyes well with invincible tears
The strings, tightening their hold, take over your body
And now, you are painting someone else’s story,
Dangling from strings, like a puppet in the air
Desperate for a pause, to reach out for the stars, to breathe
But the tick-tick of the clock overpowers you, and you go on, wearing a mask
And the curtain rises, yet again
For the feet who have seen the stage a thousand times

This time, bound by a string, you move on command
Until the strings break, and you fall, mask now cracked, revealing a broken face
The broken face of a warrior, who just needs to breathe
The clock, so brutal, ticks once, twice thrice, and the feet must go on
But for the first time, you stop
And you breathe
