moment of truth, hank. am i a living being, or just a machine?
Felt reinspired by my childhood comfort characters and the music that never failed to make me smile.
Back with some shading and tattoo drawing practice.
I hope to have a bit of free time for art in the next few weeks, and for posting some of my backlog too! More to come soon!
Stepping into the dark, to the stars we come from...
I've had Silos on repeat since release, so here's a bit of Starset fanart to pay tribute to one of my all-time favorite bands!
This will probably be the last digital art piece for a little while; my laptop has some issues that make me nervous to keep using it for the time being. I'll probably be switching over to Inktober soon anyway, so hopefully all will be well come November!
Been gone for a while! Sorry about that!
Here's some of my OCs, from a story I've been writing, that are near and dear to me.
I'll try to stay active here when I can, but as I mentioned, I'm in grad school now so the work-life balance isn't at its best lol
My first ever Superman fanart!! The new movie was SO good. I absolutely love the new cast. This is the first time I've felt so compelled to make fanart for a comic movie, and it's mostly because of how gosh dang cute the new Superman is! He's literally a fusion of Deku and Connor (nice version) and it's PERFECT. I may draw another with the doggo, but this was definitely a "scratching an itch" situation~
Just a simple refresher on the Disability Pride Flag and the meanings of the colors! July is Disability Pride Month and more people need to know about it.
It's just how he says hi...
Also the quote in the window was based on an irl business sign I passed by months ago and took a photo of. It just spoke to me for Hank and snowballed this whole project into what it is now!
This might be one of my last big projects for a little while. Life has gotten ultra busy (I am in grad school now and the experience is surreal but obviously demanding of time and energy).
I will talk more about the smaller projects I plan to do to keep the art flowing in a separate update post.
Hope this brings a smile or a laugh out of someone in the meantime!
On this day last year, I got back into drawing after a long-time hiatus...
You might think - as I had also erroneously assumed - that the 100 faces challenge I tried out last July was the first bit of art I made post-hiatus.
Alas, this is comically and tragically not the case! It was actually some random Two Face fanart that I made after a first-time watch of Batman Forever (1995) - of all films!
So, I'm living with and embracing that shameful knowledge. Celebrating it even, because now I've got a redraw of that piece on my art to-do list. I fear I'm doomed. Wish me luck, and stay tuned!
I watched Twilight for the first time as a joke for Valentines week and this cursed idea has haunted me ever since. It took forever to actually execute, but I'm happy to say I've survived my first digital comic.
For the unenlightened, this is based off of the scene where Edward appears in Bella's bedroom in the middle of the night, but unlike Cullen the Coward vanishing as she turns on the light, Nines is a freak who sticks around for a proper stare-down.
I hc Nines as being particularly strange, assuming a world where he is awakened post-revolution and has no prior history to fall back on or to guide his actions. He knows what he was built for and not much else, so the figuring-things-out part ends up being awkward at best and highly unnerving at worst.
Anyways, I hope this is still funny (I've spent so much time on it that I've become numb to any humor in it), and I'll be back on with hopefully smaller projects for a little while moving forward.
@faxaway this killed me! Had to attempt to honor the idea...
I'll try to get more art out soon. And if anyone wants to hop on the dbh x twilight crossover train, I would definitely be here for it!
no one:
me, writing every post like I have to explain my audacity for popping my head out of the sand to be here: So, I... might have accidentally made some art... for this art blog
Contrary to popular belief the biggest beginner's roadblock to art isn't even technical skill it's frustration tolerance, especially in the age of social media. It hurts and the frustration is endless but you must build the frustration tolerance equivalent to a roach's capacity to survive a nuclear explosion. That's how you build on the technical skill. Throw that "won't even start because I'm afraid it won't be perfect" shit out the window. Just do it. Just start. Good luck.
this post inspired me to dig up and repost to bsky an older twitter thread i made about my views on the same topic:
and here is the link to that feed in the final post of the thread, if you want to read my tips. good luck, keep going
Rebuilding my frustration tolerance after my art hiatus was such a game-changer. It's so important to learn to be patient with yourself, and to trust that you can improve.
I still catch myself sometimes, looking at other artists' work and feeling small, but the mindset of "I could never do that" does nothing but wear you down. The process is ongoing, but I've learned so much just in the year that I've gotten back into art that I have no doubt I'll be better and wiser for it going forward.
Posting days 16-18 of my attempt at the 100 faces challenge last summer.
I can't believe it's almost been a year since I started all of this and tried to get back into art. It means so much that I've been able to love what I make again.
More art soon!
A chance meeting leagues under the sea.
Part 2 of 2 for my MerMay art redraw.
It's been around a decade since I last saw and worked on these OCs and their story world. And this was such a joy to rediscover, along with a lot of other pieces in my first art book.
The lore gets a little wild but that just made it more fun for me to experience over again with older eyes. As I said in my last post, if anyone's curious I'd definitely talk more about this story I made when I was a kid.
I will be back to the regularly scheduled fanart projects soon!
Celebrating the end of MerMay with a reimagining of an old mermaid OC and story that I created when I was 13.
My old art is so near and dear to my heart because it reminds me to be unafraid to fail in order to make progress and learn. Also, this story was so fun to revisit and I will absolutely talk about it if anyone's interested/curious to know more.
Part 1 of 2.
Hopefully the rest will be posted tomorrow.
I've been working on redrawing and reimagining the art from my first ever art notebook. Most have been offline projects, but I wanted to work with an old mermaid OC and story world for MerMay this year.
This is a sneak peak of a larger project I'm still in the process of working on and finishing.
Here's the alt poster arrangement:
I plan to have the final art spread finished and posted before the end of the month, so stay tuned!
