Remember when i said after they passed the Transgender Amendment Bill, they would come for your rights next?

It was a peaceful protest. Students (mind you, TEENAGERS) were purposefully locked inside jantar mantar. They did not panic. The police launched tear gas, beat them with lathis, and squads pointed AK-47s at students with books and flowers in their hands. For people who have been living under a rock, or who live outside India, do you know what this protest was against?

Over an exam leak. Over a national exam leak which caused 2.2 million students to retake the test. At least 12 students commited suicide. And instead of taking responsibility?

They will come for you.

Edit: The AK-47 is referring to the sudden increase in security around the parliament. You have to do a bit of digging to find it but there are multiple videos from different angles. Doesn't exactly change the fact that the protestors were students and they were actively pointing it at them.

Although I believe a merit based system is a great idea, it's not fully practically possible in my opinion because you'd have to end casteism and caste based discrimination to get rid of reservation

That's another can of worms in itself

But yeah that reservation hatao thing will probably fail in my opinion

Indeed it is very nuanced

I’d urge you to reconsider the definition of merit based; it is not only an individual’s skill but one they would be able to gain because of economic societal communal exposure etc. Its a form of privilege too.

this is why i believe the future is not as bleak as we thought it would be

the protests finally paid off. to cjp, the youtubers who went to record the events and every single person who participated in the protests: thank you so much. all you of you are so brave.

yesterday was not only an important moment in indian history, it was also a sign of hope for every student that things can change if one has the courage to speak up against corruption. despite the inhuman treatment of the police towards them, the protestors never stopped fighting, never took to violence. their patience and resilience is a sign that we must full-fill our fundamental duties and take advantage of our right to freedom of expression.

here’s to hoping that more people start openly supporting lgbtqia, marginalised groups, women’s rights and more, that we continue showing the government that they cannot deny the people’s demands.

here’s to a truly democratic india.
