adhd just makes your really bad at capitalism, unfortunately
like bro i am just floating in a bubble detached from the flow of time and you want me to work 8 hour shifts?
I am built to sit up from sundown to sunup with minimal food and less light watching for intruders or little animals that I can kill. That requires very little of what would actually be called work and a whole lot of just zoning out because my eyes and ears are naturally attuned to picking up and focusing on changes to the environment. I am not built for the 9 to 5 office world, Janet. Unless your job requires me to persistence hunt Mark for sport.
Sea shanties are all the same anyway they just go
The queen can get fucked and so can the captain
To die while Iâm drunk is all that Iâm askin
Away, boys, away
My girl is at home and shes not even pretty
But lie me to sleep and Iâll dream of her titty
Way haul away
fyi the point of fucking up your data patterns isnt to avoid suspicion. itâs to make EVERYONE suspicious. same logic as the bloc, pals. protect your comrades, be suspicious. ESPECIALLY if you arenât doing anything likely to get you arrested.
the state is less omniscient and significantly more incompetent than youâd think. overextend their resources at every possible opportunity. make them cry wolf repeatedly. run their data analysis agents fucking ragged. and strike. attack.
YES iâm a postgrad statistics researcher and i can tell you that the state honestly has NO IDEA what to do with the data it collects, it has an obsession with big data but itâs almost impossible to work with in practice. the traditional statistical approaches that are used canât be scaled up, the adapted approaches are substantially weakened, and the machine learning approaches have the same problems and often tell them nothing. data scientists are only just coming around to these issues too, most still just push on with it anyway - incompetence is the word. above all this though, like you say, the biggest issue for the state is at the point of data collection. they will NEVER get anything useful if theyâre collecting shitty messy data. they will eventually figure out that the real solution is working how to collect accurate and meaningful data, we should make it as difficult as possible for them to do that
This makes me think that we need WAAAY more apps that generate junk data
Apps that generate junk data? tell me moooore.
Ooh I know this one!
Ad Nauseum is an adblocker that stores the ads it blocks and continuously generates fake clicks, fucking with analytics and costing the ad companies money
TrackMeNot automatically does randomly generated searches on a variety of search engines to obscure your real searches and fuck with analytics, and you can set it up to work with anything that has a search bar (including facebook, twitter, amazon, youtube, etc)
WhatCampaign replaces analytics parameters in links with the string âFuckOffâ. I thought there was a similar extension that used random strings, but I canât seem to find it
Privacy Possum is a fork of Privacy Badger with a focus on costing tracking companies as much money as possible, and idk if my limited tech knowledge is enough to understand what it does but the description does say it falsifies some data so thatâs good enough for me

Work Songs and Sea Shanties
Thereâs been a lot of posts making the rounds discussing the ties between industrial union songs, folk songs, and sea shanties (since thereâs been a rise in sea shanty popularity because of tik tok.) But I have yet to see one making the direct connection from African American work songs. Which is a little disheartening, as a black person who has always liked and enjoyed the genre.
Work songs have existed lonnnnnggg before shanties. But the distinct lyrical and instrumental form of what we immediately think of as âsea shantyâ had antecedents in the working chants of international maritime traditions. Mainly those sung while loading vessels with cotton in ports of the Southern United States, during the 18th and 19th century. And you know what also rose in the 18th and 19th century?Â
Answer: Chattel Slavery.Â
âIn the first few decades of the 19th century, White European-American culture, especially the Anglophoneâthe sailorsâ âCheer'ly Manâ and some capstan songs notwithstandingâwas not known for its work songs. By contrast, African workers, both in Africa and in the New World, were widely noted to sing while working. The fact that European observers found African work-singers so remarkable suggests that work songs were indeed rather foreign to their culture.â Source
Slave music has many distinct qualities. In early captivity, drums were used to provide rhythm, but they were banned in later years because of the fear that Africans would use them to communicate in a rebellion (they were, and also used as escape codes.) Slaves then resorted to generating percussion, using other instruments or their own bodies. Another quality is the call-and-response format, where a leader singâs a verse or verses and the others respond with a chorus. Thereâs also field hollers, shouts, moans, etc.
As slaves were forced into christianizing, their work songs evolved into Spirituals. Other measures to prevent slave rebellion included making sure that slaves from the same tribe were intentionally scattered, so that they could not share the same language. The forbiddance of practicing indigenous religions and speaking anything other than English meant that eventually, the large groups of slaves were once again able to communicate with each other.Â
Spirituals were largely informed by the colonial hymns and folk songs of the time. They had the multitudinous purpose of 1.) keeping everyone working 2.) imparting Christian values 3.) describing the hardships of slavery, and 4.) hiding codes to escape.  Famous Spirituals include âSwing Low, Sweet Chariotâ and âWade in the Waterâ and they were a significant part of navigating the Underground Railroad.Â
The switch to steam powered ships by the end of the 19th century gradually made sea shanties obsolete as work songs, so they are largely preserved as folk music. But because African Americans were still forced into the labour class, their work songs continued to evolve. Here are some chain gang songs for example.
Work songs > Spirituals > Gospel Music > Blues > Every Modern Black American Musical Genre That we Know Today
Not only that, but the root genre of work songs still exist across the globe, distinct to the agricultural and industrial work force of each culture. These videos were all posted within the last 5-10 years, from Tasmania, South Africa, The Philippines, and Tanzania. You can hear the connection between them being the tremendous labour they do.

Look, I dont know a lot about saints and Catholicism, but I know St. Agatha is always depicted with her breasts on a plate, and thatâs sure something
Just a few more. This is a big trend.Â
Things I learned from the comments
Sheâs a patron saint of rape and abuse victims
She took a vow a chastity
A low born guy demanded her to be with him and she turned him down
For this she was imprisoned and tortured. This is how she lost her breasts (details not required)
She was repeatedly raped.
The Catholic Church regards her as a virgin for her peity despite the rape. (No matter your views on virginity this is a pretty interesting statement)
She was sentenced to death to burn at the stake but was saved by an earthquake
In her holiday people make titty cupcakes
I didnât know she existed and now I think sheâs a pretty rad woman. I would hesitate calling her a protofeminist as some often do with amazing women in history but she is pretty cool. Also sheâs still very relevant today as women are still treated the way she was.
other things i learned: damn historic artists drew a woman with her own tits on a plate with Cleavage and prominent nip nops???
When is titty cupcake day?
Today!
Coming up!
Looks like Iâm making cupcakes on Wednesday
weâre about a month out and this is what i put in my calendar
Evil bingus. SCRINGUS
imagine the supernatural season one aesthetic if they were boppin around in a prius
john winchester looks at the coat of dirt on the prius. âdean, i wouldnât have given you this car if you werenât going to take care of it.â âdad, everyone knows you buy a prius for the fuel efficiency, not for the appearance.â âyouâre right, son, my bad. carry on.â
in the pilot episode, the woman in white takes control of the prius on the bridge but then she realizes sheâs in a prius so she softly whispers âthis is bullshit. i can never go home.â
sam says âweâve got work to doâ and then steps back so he can close the hatchback
because their lives are so stressful, they choose the soothing sea glass pearl color. who wants to worry about visible clear coat scratches when youâve got monsters to kill
a semi hits the prius during the season 1 finale but, due to its five star side crash safety rating, dean winchester never enters a coma. season 2 is fundamentally altered.
I donât even go here, but please tell me more about plot problems that could be solved if they were driving a road safe, fuel efficient, cheaply maintained car.
old people really need to learn how to text accurately to the mood theyâre trying to represent like my boss texted me wondering when my semester is over so she can start scheduling me more hours and i was like my finals are done the 15th! And she texts back âYay for youâŠ.â how the fuck am i supposed to interpret that besides passive aggressive
Someone needs to do a linguistic study on people over 50 and how they use the ellipsis. Itâs FASCINATING. I never know the mood theyâre trying to convey.
I actually thought for a long time that texting just made my mother cranky. But then I watched my sister send her a funny text, and my mother was laughing her ass off. But her actual texted response?
âHa⊠right.â
Like, she had actual goddamn tears in her eyes, and that was what she considered an appropriate reply to the joke.I just marvelled for a minute like âwhat the actual hell?â and eventually asked my mom a few questions. I didnât want to make her feel defensive or self-conscious or anything, it just kind of blew my mind, and I wanted to know what she was thinking.
Turns out that sheâs using the ellipsis the same way I would use a dash, and also to create âmore space between wordsâ because it âjust looks better to herâ. Also, that I tend to perceive an ellipsis as an innate âdownswingâ, sort of like the opposite of the upswing you get when you ask a question, but she doesnât. And that she never uses exclamation marks, because all her teachers basically drilled it into her that exclamation marks were horrible things that made you sound stupid and/or aggressive.
So whereas I might sent a response that looked something like:
âYay! That sounds great - where are we meeting?â
My mother, whilst meaning the exact same thing, would go:
âYay. That sounds great⊠where are we meeting?â
And when I look at both of those texts, mine reads like âhappy/approvalâ to my eye, whereas my motherâs looks flat. Positive phrasing delivered in a completely flat tone of voice is almost always sarcastic when spoken aloud, so written down, it looks sarcastic or passive-aggressive.
On the reverse, my mother thinks my texts look, in her words, âditzyâ and âloudâ. She actually expressed confusion, because she knows I write and she thinks that I write well when Iâm constructing prose, and she, apparently, could never understand why I âwrote like an airhead who never learned proper Englishâ in all my texts. It led to an interesting discussion on conversational text. Texting and text-based chatting are, relatively, still pretty new, and my motherâs generation by and large didnât grow up writing things down in real-time conversations. The closest equivalent would be passing notes in class, and that almost never went on for as long as a text conversation might. But letters had been largely supplanted by telephones at that point, so âconversational writingâ was not a thing she had to master.Â
So whereas people around my age or younger tend to text like weâre scripting our own dialogue and need to convey the right intonations, my mom writes her texts like sheâs expecting her Eighth grade English teacher to come and mark them in red pen. She has learned that proper punctuation and mistakes are more acceptable, but when she considers putting effort into how sheâs writing, itâs always the lines of making it more formal or technically correct, and not along the lines of âhow would this sound if you said it out loud?â
the linguistics of written languages in quick conversational format will never not be interesting to me like itâs fascinating how weâve all just silently learned what an ellipsis or exclamation mark implies and itâs totally different in different communities or generations or whatever
