@sensaetes wanted a fic based on this thread (https://twitter.com/Kala_Bogdanow/status/897923514543464448) on Twitter, aka Riley getting Kala stoned for the first time, both Wolfgang and Riley finding her adorable, and Kala getting handsy with the two of them.

First off, happy birthday to Mika!  (Slightly belated because this ended up being longer than I expected, but what’s a couple hours amirite?)  This stemmed from various conversations on Twitter about Kala/RIley, and then sorta expanded from there.  I’ve never written them (or the combo of Kala/RIley/Wolfgang lol) before, so hope this is what people were looking for.  Takes place in a vague Whispersless future in which the whole cluster and their significant others are in a polyamorous relationship, mostly because I said so.

It starts simply enough.  Kala and Riley are talking about their families, and Riley mentions the time her dad visited her in Amsterdam.

“You smoked marijuana with your father?” Kala asks incredulously.

Riley laughs, thinking back to when she gave her father and his friends Ecstasy before their concert in Reykjavik.  “I’ve done more than that, but yeah.  Papa loves pot.”

Laughing as well, Kala shakes her head in disbelief.  “I can’t imagine my father smoking it at all, let alone smoking with him.”

“Have you ever smoked?” Riley asks.

Kala shakes her head.  “I wouldn’t have even known who to ask about getting it,” she admits sheepishly.

Kala is warm, Wolfgang thinks, and when he feels her heat he understands why men write poetry.

Kala is sunsets and marigolds, ripe mangoes that dripped down her fingers in the summer when she was young and the sweltering sun made everything just this side of too hot. She’s the red of the fires she never says she loves but (not so) secretly does, volatile and unexpected and unassuming until something sparks that life (and death) within her, and yet she’s also the soft pale yellow of the candles she lights around her gods every morning, praying for peace and understanding and connection and love. She’s the gold of the thin chain around her neck, warmed by the heat of her skin and the love of her heart that pumps crimson blood to its surface, and the radiance of her smile that could light up the world entire.

Such a stark contrast to himself, he thinks, such an absolute opposite it seems like a grand cosmic joke that they should have found each other and fit so perfectly in the spaces they each had to fill.

Wolfgang is the grey of the concrete walls he built around himself. He is the blue of the ice in his heart and his soul and his veins, the deep charcoal of a truly empty home with no one to turn on the light. He is the black of his shoes and his jacket and the impenetrable darkness that’s been within him since his earliest memories, the one he only knows the edges of but not the size or the depth for fear of falling in and not climbing out.

But then he looks at her, and she looks at him, and she smiles or takes his hand or pulls him in for a kiss before continuing on with their lives with fingers entwined and hearts beating in symphony, and he thinks that maybe, just maybe, the pale yellow of candlelight has been lit inside him, and it will chase away the frost.

so i have this headcanon that kala is the one to propose to wolfgang.  given both his own family and kala’s (at this point past) marriage, it just wasn’t something he had really thought too much about doing.  he always planned on spending the rest of his life with kala, he just had never felt like he needed to make it official or anything.  but kala has always dreamed of marrying someone she loves, so when she feels the time is right she asks him to marry her.  and even though wolfgang hadn’t really thought about it before, he says yes instantly because of course he wants to marry kala if she wants to marry him.  of course.
