Throwing out the “traditional” wedding cakes
The wedding cake is a special symbol in one's wedding. Traditionally, wedding cakes were created to bring good luck to all guest and couples. As time went on wedding cakes symbolized many other things and eventually became more as a centerpiece for many weddings.
The traditional wedding cake all started off with a piece of bread. Which eventually ended up becoming a three or more tiered cake. Back in the days the higher your wedding cake was the higher their social status was.
As tradition slowly fades out from generation to generation, things change, wedding cakes change. Most couples that wed hate wedding cakes and do not want to have the “typical” wedding cake on their special day. In this generation most brides are throwing out traditional and are getting a little more creative with their “special cake.”
What is a “traditional” wedding cake? A traditional wedding cake is at least a three tiered of cake with a bride and groom cake topper.
Here are a few cake alternatives brides are starting to have on their special day:
Cake pops
Since cake pops have suddenly became popular within the cake family, many brides choose to have a wedding cake made out of cake pops. The cake pops are positioned in to three or more tiers to make it appear as a tiered cake, but really it gives the illusion of a three-tired cake.
Cupcakes
The cupcakes are similar to the cake pop idea. The cupcakes are also positioned as the illusion of a three or more tiered cake, with the cake topper being a huge cupcake.
Donuts
Donuts are another new item brides are using to create that special wedding cake and being so unoriginal with it.
Rice Krispies
Couples are also using rice krispies as a wedding cake. It looks exactly like a “traditional” wedding cake, but instead of using cake they are making it out of rice krispies
Macaroons
Macaroons have resurfaced again and are becoming even more popular. It’s becoming so popular now that brides are using this sweet treat as their wedding cake. The macaroons are positioned same way as other treats, as well as giving the illusion of a three tiered cake.
In the End . . .
Those are just a few ideas brides are starting to do instead of having the “traditional” wedding cake on their special day. Overall the way the wedding cake is symbolized today isn’t how it uses to be symbolized. Wedding cakes are now become more of a centerpiece and these couples are using sweet treats that they both like. If a wedding couple loves to eat donuts then go ahead and have that donut wedding cake at your wedding. Wedding cakes are not to show off status or impress anyone, it is all about making memories and knowing that you’re not settling the standard three tiered wedding cake.

Lately, the presentation of desserts has sparked many interests to people. Television networks are launching out many shows based upon desserts. The main idea for all these shows is how uniquely dessert can be presented. After watching the Food Network channel, TLC, and BBC I narrowed it down to why people watch these shows and what are these people doing that is worth networks investing money into.
Important people judge
Something about important people in the food industry judging regular people thrills people. A lot of dessert shows are based upon competitiveness because people like knowing whom the best people are. People enjoy watching people get pushed out of their comfort zones and try new techniques in order to win.
Get ideas
Many shows have very unique desserts! People nowadays are thinking bigger then ever and in these shows, you definitely see it. Bakers and chefs in the food industry have no limit when it comes to creating stuff. Which is why people enjoy watching them bake, it is almost magical to watch.
Try new things
Something about unusual desserts catches people’s attention. People get amused to watch people eat stuff they normally wouldn’t. Such as this cupcake, that has bacon pieces topped on top of a maple flavor frosting. Some people like getting grossed out or get inspired to try new things. It goes both ways when it comes to trying desserts with unusual ingredients such as having insects dipped in chocolate or waffles and chicken flavored cake.
Presentation of the desserts
The best for last! Presentation of desserts is what majority of people care about. For an example, in a New York restaurant called Serendipity, they serve a Golden Opulence Sundae. The extravagant ice cream, listed as the Guinness Book of World Records' as the most expensive dessert, cost $1000 and is covered in 23-carat gold leaf. With many of the shows based off extraordinary desserts it's no wonder why people like watching them.
