BURN THE MIDNIGHT OIL | DEVLOG #1: May 2026
Pheuw! It's been a busy but productive month post-campaign. If you're one of our Kickstarter backers, remember to check out the longer version of this update over there. Late pledges close on the 7th of June, which means there's still a little under two weeks left to back us on Kickstarter and join in on the KS-exclusive fun!
The next few months, we're focusing on a content update for the demo. More scenes, more sprites, and an extensive update to the GUI. We're also going to improve save/load times, and tackle some other feedback we received from our demo players. Development's not perfectly linear though, so as we work on the revamped demo, we'll also be working on the game as a whole!
Our art team has been incredible. We've finished almost all of the "mandatory" side character & monster designs (what we consider the bare minimum to do the story justice), the missing BG for Lazarus's lounge (see the start of this post), and Chester's even gotten started on the secondary sprites and extra outfits for our main cast.
At the same time, Cherry finished the 4 animal companion sprites (designed by our backers) for Abraxas, Edgar, Raoul, and Zeno.

Our public updates are not always going to be this packed (as we're saving most of it for our KS backers), but we wanted to share a lot of what we've been up to this month after being so quiet on socials!
