A few years ago, in the inevitable purge that comes when you can’t pay the rent every once in a while, I let my modified Carlo Robelli #8stringbass go. I sell guitars all the time and rarely miss them. But man, this bass was such a massive part of my history, being on most of my Powerpop stuff since the 3rd album. Today, thanks to the kindness of the man who bought her, she returned home to me. Last night I got to hang out with @camerondaddo at one of my favourite spaces @deskandstudio with my friend @thereallyntaylor and shoot and direct the video for the first single from the new project of his we’ve been working on. This beautiful @hofnerguitars bass is being used tonight for a session. I was just marveling at it thinking that it was almost 50 years old. So I just went on a quick Hofner date search. I’ve had this bass since 1988 and always assumed it was a 1971. Turns out the pots are May 1968. Which dates the production of this bass at mid-late 1968!!! Wow!!! It’s only a year younger than me!!! Sam is such a great writer, and we now have a good creative groove going after doing a few little things over the last few years. Over the last few months, I’ve gotten to call this handsome fella my mate. @camerondaddo has been in making a KILLER E.P in between his one million other jobs. @michellecashmanmusic gets more and more impressive with every visit here at @lovehzstudios. Today we had time set aside for a short #liveatlovehz video session. But she was SO good that we did almost triple the amount of work we’d set out too! And her playing, songs and performances were consistently brilliant all day. I finally got around to doing a tally up of my 2019 work year. Busy!! It’s great to have seen the studio busy. And I’m loving doing so many shows. Music videos are down a little as is the songwriting. But all in all, not a bad life. Thank you to everyone that puts their money where their faith is with me. And personally, I feel like I continue to refine and improve in every way. I love these boys. What a joyous day I’ve had in here at @lovehzstudios with @steelinhearts and @therevdoctorz recording and filming them just playing songs. If being some of the best men I know isn’t enough, their talent is so effortless and overflowing. They are truly a gift to all who get to be in their orbit, and I’m grateful whenever that’s me.
