Well Snape bullied Harry so I think they're fucking even (technically not since harry didn't deserve that and also it wasn't bullying since it was mutual-)
Do you know why marauders stans hate snape? Not because we're marauders stans. Because he was an awful person. He bullied children, he WAS A FUCKIN DEATH EATER. He told Voldemort to kill James and harry but not lily. Even Dumbledore, the ultimate fucked up man, thought snape was fucking sick.
Honestly, the discord around Snape being "redeemed" is just so annoying too. Because no, giving a backstory to a character does not equate a "redemption." It's just a fucking backstory. Snape is not absolved of his sins because he had a hard-on for Lily Potter -- if anything, I think that makes his actions even more damning. He didn't love her, he was obsessed with her. If he loved her, he would have treated Harry better.
And yes, the argument that he was a "spy" and he needed to "act a part" has some merit here. But he couldn't have been nicer in private? Snape was always around for Order business and stuff. Harry interacted with that man with others who knew Snape was a spy. Snape didn't have to be an asshole then, he chose to continue to be a bully.
And ALSO, what concrete evidence do we have that James was a dick? That James bullied Snape and it wasn't some sort of negative back and forth that both perpetuated? We have Remus being upset about his actions or lack thereof -- makes sense, I don't see many adults who are proud of their actions as teenagers. But we also have Sirius and Snape who still openly detest each other?
The main point of evidence we have to suggest James was a bully and that Snape was a victim is a memory from Snape. We have a memory from a man who canonically hated James Potter. That's the most biased fucking evidence you could pull out. It's like asking a Christian their belief on if God exists. WE KNOW THEIR ANSWER. That doesn't fucking give us an objective point of view.
Apologies in advance, I didn't realize how long this was until I finished
THIS!!!
Okay please stick with me, this may seem initially anti-James but keep reading. Also, let's just say that James was a bully because of the evidence we have about it. For the sake of this argument, let's say that James and Snape were both shithead bullies that were very unkind to other people. I don't think any form of bullying is okay for any reason, and I will never excuse or defend James's actions. If I'm going to criticize Snape for being a bully, I'm also going to criticize James for doing the same thing because bullying is obviously not okay no matter the situation.
That being said, I do think that we have enough evidence to suggest that James changed and grew up. He clearly made enough personal changes to be HeadBoy as well as allow Lily to fall in love with him. I could go on a long rant on how essential the Head Boy position was during those moments when war was brewing, and I can't imagine that it wasn't very intentional to have James represent the school in such a position. I don't think he would've been HeadBoy or been able to win Lily over had he not made sincere and massive changes to his character.
But, obviously, that's only inferential and we really don't have foolproof and solid canonical evidence to suggest that he really made lots of change (although, again, I think we can infer he did). We do, however, have piles upon piles of evidence to prove that Snape didn't make any effort to stop bullying children and didn't really change as a person. He was a fully grown-ass man who bullied the children he taught. Like, what the fuck?? There is no evidence that he ever reflected on himself and made significant changes to not be a massive shithead. Sure, he did great things and is a huge reason for Voldemort's downfall, but he's still suuuuch a shitty person. I think people forget that shitty people can do objectively good things.
So, that being said, how the fuck can someone be redeemed if they haven't actively done anything to redeem themselves? Snape's history gives us perspective on the motives of his actions, but by no means does it provide any real reasons to glorify him the way many people do.
Okay, that's all for today. Thanks for reading, friends :)
James was horribly irritating and childish, and Lily was impatient.
He hexed people in the hallways, and she scolded him for it- but of course, it only reinforced his behaviour. He'd do anything just for some attention from her. She hated his friends, and she hated who Sev was around them. He was rude and used various colourful words and hexes to express how much he loathed James's group of friends.
That year was the first time she had heard the word. One of the older Slytherins said something about what he would do to "one of them" if they touched him. Sev just looked uncomfortable and wouldn't make eye contact with her. But just because it was his house didn't mean anything to Lily. He was her friend.
SECOND YEAR:
James was still irritating and childish, and she was still impatient. Lily insulted him so much in Charms that he and his friends thought it would be funny to keep track of the insults and then hold a vote on their favourite later ("James, if I wanted to hear a twat's opinion, I would've asked." won, but was followed closely by "I find jinx's less irritating than you.”)
Sev's hatred for him only grew. He snickered every time James got in trouble and always sent sparks at Peter's ankles, saying he loved "watching the fat rat run." Lily didn't have time to scold him before James threw the first punch.
She watched Sev make more friends, the type of blokes who would bully the muggle-borns mercilessly. While she never saw him do it, she never saw him put a stop to it either. But he was her friend, her lifeline in a world that made her an outcast. And no one really understood her like her friend did.
THIRD YEAR:
James seemed to hit peak immaturity this year, making an absolute fool of himself just to get a sliver of Lily's attention. If she had known that, perhaps she wouldn't have bothered with her reactions, but "Merlin, he really just drives me absolutely bonkers."
One day after Transfiguration, she overheard James getting a lecture for doing Remus's homework for him. She listened to James say something about "his condition", and, after a moment, McGonagall simply sighed and gave him an extra assignment, which Lily found odd. McGonagall was never that lenient, and everyone knew James loved Transfiguration. It was barely a punishment.
When she explained that to Sev, he said something about how strange it was that Remus got sick so often, but Lily was lost in thought about the peculiar situation and couldn't get past how kind it was of James to risk getting in trouble for his friend. This was one of the first times she had anything actually positive to say about James Potter.
This year was the first time that she was called the word. It was from one of Sev's friends after Potions one day because Slughorn had praised her potion; apparently, his friend didn't like that. "It can't be that good if a mudblood like you made it," he had said before he spat at her feet. "Seems like it would be rather dirty if you ask me."
Sev didn't say anything, and she didn't want to talk about it. But they didn't hang out around or talk about any of Sev's friends after that.
FOURTH YEAR:
James had relaxed a little bit. Lily heard him say something about Sirius moving in with him, and she sat next to Remus in Charms. She found she liked him, as he seemed calmer than the others. A part of her heart hurt for him, seeing the scars on his body. She had heard about the horrors of abusive homes from Sev and decided to never cause any issues for Remus.
Severus didn't like this; he didn't like her hanging around any of Potter's friends. Lily could see why he was frustrated by it and had to explain that she wouldn't ever consider being friends with Potter, Remus was different than the rest of his friends. That was the first time Lily questioned her friendship with Sev, and things weren't really the same after that.
It only worsened when Lily defended Remus when Severus's friends made fun of his scars. She was called that word again, and Severus again didn't say anything. He didn't talk to her for a week because she "chose their side over his". She just sighed and complained about him to her other friends.
That was also the year someone wrote "MUDBLOOD'S BEWARE" in dark red paint in the girl's bathroom on the fourth floor. Lily threw up when she saw it, and James was furious when he found out, confronting Severus and his friends about it. Everyone knew it was one of them. Sev threw the first punch that time.
FIFTH YEAR:
Lily and Remus were made Prefects. Remus told her his secret mid-year, but she had known the truth for a while. They worked so closely together with their duties that Lily considered him one of her best friends. She found that she sympathized with him more than she thought. She knew how it felt to not fully belong in the wizarding world for something you can't control.
That was the year that James saved Severus's life. Sev was far too nosey about where Remus was going once a month. Lily's heart fluttered a little when she heard about it but suppressed the feeling. Sev was incredibly upset by the whole thing, but Lily assumed it was because it proved James wasn't completely and entirely bad like Sev was convinced he was.
That year Lily noticed James had started to change a bit. She liked how he joked and interacted with all the first and second years; he was very kind and patient with them. She also started to get closer to Sirius and Peter due to her friendship with Remus. Severus hated that she was friends with his friends, but Lily clarified that he couldn't control who she hung out with.
That was the year that the whole incident happened. Lily wanted to say that she was surprised he called her the word, but she wasn't. She knew who he was and what he said when he wasn't around her. That's when she decided she was done with Severus Snape and their exhausting friendship. That was the type of betrayal a person can never come back from.
Any credit James had scarcely collected over the past few years had gone down the drain. He knew that and more than understood why. So when Lily asked for space, he respected her wishes and left her alone. As torturous as it was, he knew she didn't want anything to do with him, and he hurt her. He needed to be better.
In that same vain, a rumoured war was becoming a reality. There were much more significant issues at hand, and it was high time for James to grow up. So he did.
SIXTH YEAR:
James was different this year. He didn't insist on making an utter fool out of himself, and while Lily knew that she asked for space, she found herself missing him. Maybe she was still healing over Severus, or perhaps she saw how James had grown up. He held himself differently and stopped making people laugh at the expense of others. That was the year Lily saw the difference between James and Severus Snape.
Because while James had done plenty of wrong things, he recognized it and stopped. He made a change for good. Severus could not.
She walked in on them having an argument one night. Severus was saying something about how James didn't deserve her, and to her surprise, James agreed. But the tension grew like it always inevitably did, and Lily snapped when Severus mentioned Remus's condition with a greasy sneer, saying that he could expose him at any second.
Lily threw the first punch that time, telling Snivillus to move on and grow the fuck up.
That was the year that they found a girl's body at the bottom of the Astronomy Tower. A third year, a muggle-born. It was said that she accidentally fell, but everyone knew she was pushed. Rumour was that one of Snape's friends had bragged about it before she was even discovered.
A full-blown war was in rage outside the walls of Hogwarts, and for the first time in her life, Lily started to question her safety at the school.
That was the year that Lily found comfort in James. And that was the year that they all agreed that they would fight.
SEVENTH YEAR:
Lily was made Head Girl, James Head Boy, and she could not be more pleased about it. She had begun to not only enjoy James's company, but she soon started to crave it. They fell in love as the leaves turned brown, and everything seemed to fit perfectly together for the pair of them.
She didn't see much of Snape, nor did she spend much time thinking of him. She knew what type of man he was and didn't want to waste time thinking about something that no longer mattered to her. He had chosen his path, and she chose his.
After two students and a professor didn't return from the summer holiday and then one student from a trip to Hogsmeade, the school went on lockdown for the year. Students weren't allowed outside of the school, even on holidays. The school had already lost too many innocent people.
The students lost over the summer were a pair of siblings, one a fifth year and one a second. Their family was deemed "blood traitors" and was taken care of accordingly. The professor taught muggle studies and was tortured into insanity. Those three were the victims that made the Lestranges the most feared of the Death Eaters, second to He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named himself. The student lost over the first, and only, trip to Hogsmead was one of Lily's friends, Marlene McKinnon. The last thing Lily saw from her was her bright smile as she headed back to The Three Broomsticks to fetch her forgotten cloak. Lily insisted that she come with, but Marlene wouldn't let her. Oh, don't be silly, I'll only be a moment, she had said. You go on.
Lily never fully healed from hearing the screams.
She never entirely stopped screaming her sleep, covered in her own sweat. Marlene, without even knowing it, had saved her life.
While that year held the most fear and pain, it was also the happiest for Lily. She had her friends and the boy she knew she would spend the rest of her life with. They learned to enjoy the little things when they could (like stealing a bottle of Firewhisky or throwing parties in the Common Room at any excuse that they could), and Hogwarts had a new feeling of unity that year. All the students were kinder to each other, and the teachers were more lenient. Their exams were easier, and James was ecstatic to see the quidditch stands the fullest he'd ever seen them. The students also took their magical education much more seriously, as they knew they were lucky to even be in school and may have to use their education and skills sooner than they thought to fight in a war that none of them asked for.
Lily made sure to never take her life for granted, and while as terrible as the war was, she swears that it was the thing that made her last year at Hogwarts both the hardest of them all but also the most enjoyable.
Because it taught so many teenagers, teenagers who had their childhoods ripped away from them and were forced to grow up in a moment rather than years, to never take anything for granted. It taught them to love harder, laugh more, and search for happiness. It brought people together in ways that people never could have guessed. Yes, Lily hated the war more than anything, but she refused to let it destroy all forms of happiness.
So, when she looked back on Hogwarts for the last time, she decided not to dwell on the sadness and fear that seemed to encompass her and her fellow graduates. Instead, she chose to remember the good times it gifted to her and how it moulded her into the person she grew up to be, and she was proud of who she was. She was proud to be a muggle-born.
So, with an odd amount of certainty, she grabbed James's hand, and together they both stepped forward into the unknown.
Although, at their core, James was still irritating and somewhat childish at times, and Lily was still impatient.
okay, hiii, i'd first like to apologize for the hiatus I've been on, my life has been a bit crazy

i think this is one of my favorite chapters i've written :D
James only laughed and shook his head, "And what if I say you're the cocky one?"
" Me?! " She gaped. Lily was a lot of things, but cocky ? She second-guessed nearly everything she did. From her cereal to her clothes to how to best seduce James Potter- Lily was far from too cocky .
"Don't act so surprised," he retorted with an open expression, teasing her slightly, "You're the one that made me look at you naked in front of all our friends."
There it was. The fundamental thing James was holding back.
So he wasn't bitter about Lily trespassing, her using him, or even calling him cocky. No, he was feeling... teased?
"I promise you, I didn't mean to," Lily giggled slightly, basking in the idea that she still had such an impact on James. It stroked her ego to know that James, the boy who always left her breathless, thought of her in the same way and quantity as she did him.
The boy with such striking looks, who was desired by practically anyone with an ounce of sense, lusted after her .
That felt... unmatched. There was no better feeling.
In light of the recent announcement of the Harry Potter TV Show and the fact that this is primarily a Harry Potter fan fiction blog, the below needs to be said.
I am not excited about this show.
If you told my past self 5 years ago this, I’d be shocked. Five years ago, if they announced a Harry Potter TV show I’d be doing everything in my power to be involved some way or another. However, in the last five years JKR has shown her true colors and spent her free time and money attacking the trans community. There are many reasons why I’m not excited about the show or looking forward to it in any regard, but to me the most important is that this show gives JKR more money and cultural capital to further her anti-trans agenda. This is unacceptable.
I think a lot of us raised on Harry Potter really wanted to separate the art from the artist, dive further into fanfic and fandom and just ignore that the woman who created a world in which we’ve spent most of our lives escaping into. However, we can’t do that. It’s come to my attention over the past few days that a lot of people aren’t even aware of the active harm JKR is doing to the trans community. Most people just say, ‘oh she said some weird stuff on twitter’ right?
Well, yeah. But, did you also know she launched an active campaign against a reform bill that made it easier for trans people to legally change gender? You know what happened? The UK blocked that Bill and Scotland now has to launch a legal challenge to the government block. She’s also funding a Sex Abuse Crisis Center that excludes trans women. Yeah, that’s right. She’s using her money from a book about love and acceptance to actively exclude a marginalized group from a crisis center. She’s also publicly admitted via twitter that she funds anti-LGBTQ political activity in the UK.
So yeah, there’s a direct line of fans supporting official trademarked Harry Potter anything and that money directly harming transpeople. Sorry for that rude awakening, but some of y’all are doing backflips to avoid seeing this.
Now, is there a way to prevent Warner Brothers (and Max, lol) from making this show? Probably not? After mergers and at a point when the tv and film industry isn’t booming, they need money. You know what makes money? Harry Potter. Which is why they’re rebooting it. Another question that’s been raised, will the looming writer’s strike affect this? I would guess probably not? Most UK writers (and International writers at large) are not in the WGA. JKR has always wanted the most amount of British people involved in Harry Potter adaptations, so they’ll use the strike to find a UK writer and get them to work.
So what can we do?
Don’t watch the show. Or, if you do. Pirate it. In fact, cancel your Max subscription before the show launches.
They’re going to spend A LOT of money on this. If the numbers aren’t there for them they will do what every other streamer does with an unsuccessful show and cancel it. They announced 5 Fantastic Beast movies, and yet…where’s that last one?
Anyway, thanks for reading this whole thing if you’ve gotten this far. Please share with friends who are excited about the show. Please engage in meaningful discussions with other Potter fans. Please support our trans friends and strangers.

"Absolutely not," Lily said while her friends undressed, "What if they're home?!"
The four of them were tipsy off of cheap liquor, and Mary- Goddamn Mary of all people- had the idea that skinny dipping in James's Grandmother's jacuzzi seemed to be the perfect activity to pass the time. Lily was shocked at the suggestion- she didn't think Mary had a mischievous bone in her body- and Marlene, to no wonder, was all over it.
"Don't be such a stick in the mud!" Dorcus giggled. Lily took back everything she had thought about her earlier. Nothing about her behaviour was as previously described.
"Yeah, while you're at it, how about you pull that big one out of your arse?" Marlene pestered as the three naked girls stumbled into the jacuzzi, causing the loudest splash they could have conceivably made. Mary (who was too much of a lightweight for her own good) had fallen entirely head first and was now thoroughly drenched.
"The three of you lot are actually mad. Absolutely bonkers, each one of you. I haven't seen such lunacy since-"
"Oh, take your knickers off first and then you can judge us," Marlene hollered, splashing water in Lily's direction.
Lily, who was standing with her hands on her hips, huffed. Growing up, she always heard she would be peer pressured about smoking or drinking- not sneaking into her best friend's grandmother's yard to skinny dip. All the stupid rants and lectures she received about underage drinking make sense now. Alcohol- and her ridiculous friends- lead to too much irresponsibility.
She tapped her fingers on her hips, cocked her head, and sighed. During moments like these, she had to remember that she was young and stupid and should be allowed to act like it. She was incredibly responsible and proper in all other areas of her life, to the point that her dad even prompted her to sneak out. "You need to get in some trouble, Lil. You're far too afraid of messing up for my liking," he had said. While Lily was sure he hadn't meant getting naked in some poor unsuspecting old woman's pool, Lily knew he was right.
"Fine, but I still think it's a lousy idea," Lily said, pulling her shirt off as her friends cheered too loudly for the level of stealth they promised to be. As she left her clothes strewn over the pavement with all her other friend's garments, Lily walked over to the jacuzzi, shushing them, "James's grandmother likes me, and I'd rather keep it that way."
Lily pulled her hair up and out of her face as she lowered herself into the warm water, letting out a relaxing sigh as she closed her eyes.
And almost as if on cue, before she had a moment to relish in leisure, she heard the voices.
They were whispers, four hushed voices coming from the back door of James's Nan's house.
since i'm never going to actually be able to write all (or maybe any lmao) of these, i'm going to put them out anyways
also please forgive formatting errors, tumblr was being so stupid while i was doing this and i just got frustrated but i did try to make it as clear as i could with what i have
treacherous:
muggle au. based on taylor swift's 'treacherous' (how could you expect otherwise). this is the one i'm currently obsessed with and even started writing a bit
Lily Evans, daughter of Republican Senator from California, Paul Evans, has been told since she was nine to avoid James Potter at the summer camp they attended. He was the son of Euphemia Potter, a Democrat Senator from Tennessee and the physical manifestation of everything that Paul Evans is trying to keep Lily away from.
She doesn't listen and gets her heart broken when she's 12.
Years pass, and she's now attending a small private college in Rhode Island- and so is James. She spends her first year at school avoiding him like the plague; however, much to her opposition, she finds it incredibly difficult to resist his charms despite their history and familial situations once they inevitably run into each other. She is forced to navigate not only her secret feelings for James but also the pressure of her family during America's polarizing political climate. Full of passion, secrets, and scandal, it doesn't take long to discover precisely how treacherous things are getting.
idk what to title this one but it's a pirate au:
pirate au where Lily is the captain and james is an english aristocrat. i loooove this one so much
Captain Evans is the most mysterious and feared pirate that sails the ocean waters. He doesn't pick sides, show mercy, and holds a deadly vengeance that few seem to survive. However, one of the most feared things about Captain Evans is that no one knows what he looks like or who he is. Besides his fiercely loyal crew, he is the best-kept secret that all kings want to simultaneously exterminate and have on their side.
Lord James Potter was raised to hate pirates in his aristocratic upbringing. He found them untrustworthy and unnecessarily cruel- and his detest for them only grows when a pirate is linked to his late father's disappearance.
Everything changes when a stunning woman from Captain Evans's crew approaches him with a proposition: If he helps Captain Evans with something, then the Captain can show James the truth about his missing father. After some convincing (or rather, threats), James agrees to board the Marauder's Revenge. It's there that he discovers that not only was Captain Evans the beautiful woman that initially approached him, but also her undying quest to avenge the death of her sister at the hands of Captain Tom Riddle- the same pirate that caused James to lose his father.
There's still more that Captain Evans is keeping from James, so James spends his days aboard the Marauder's Revenge desperately trying to identify precisely who she is and what she is intentionally keeping from him and an unexpected romance starts to grow between them.
this story is full of twists and turns and i'm literally obsessed with it lmao
'tis the damn season:
another muggle au based off of a taylor swifts song, because this is all i seem to be able to write lmao. this one is short, would be maybe 5 chapters?
Lily and James have the type of young love that most people only dreamed of. They're planning their futures together, both planning to attend Brown University, however, Lily breaks James's heart the day after their high school graduation when she announces that she's going to LA for school to pursue her dream of being on Broadway. James is devastated, as he changed his entire college plans and future for her, only for her to move to the opposite side of the country.
It's been almost four years, and after avoiding it all this time, Lily finally goes back home after moving away. She's been avoiding James this whole time and figures she can't do this forever.
When they run into each other at his family's New Year's Eve party, James is expectedly cold and Lily is riddled with guilt. In an attempt to apologize, the two talk and all the old, suppressed feelings come back up.
So they reconnect for the short time they have left with each other, both unsure what this means for their future, but not caring anyway. They're both due to graduate in the spring, and Lily drops the bomb that she's moving to New York after to try to pursue her dreams- which conveniently is where James is. The real question is if James is able to heal from the broken trust and hurt that Lily caused him years ago.
Greenwich, Connecticut:
muggle au! i started this one in high school and honestly think it's pretty good, but i just feel weird about writing it now since i'm older haha
Greenwich, Connecticut. The prestigious small town settled on the coast of Connecticut, less than an hour away from New York. It's where everyone wants to be and holds people everyone wants to be or be with. However, amidst the fantasy life of the rich and behind closed doors, no one knows the type of secrets that money can bury.
Lily Evans is at the top of the social food chain and intends to keep it that way. She's spent every waking moment carefully constructing her image and friends to ensure her status remains solidified and untouchable- until someone shows up and causes a bump in the road.
She spent the summer before her junior year in the Hamptons getting to know James Potter, a senior from a different town. When he unexpectedly moves to Greenwich, she realizes that even under her careful eye, not everyone is who they say they are.
Broken Glass (working title):
This one was inspired by Bridgerton Season 2, I can't lie. It's a canon-compliant, classic enemies to lovers story during their seventh year at Hogwarts.
James was ready to take the high road, maturely deciding to leave his and Lily's rocky past behind them for the good of the school. It didn't seem reasonable to have the two Head students hate each other.
Lily doesn't seem to think otherwise. Upset over the fact that James was chosen over someone else, she simply can't get over the blatant favoritism and arrogance that James exhibits. She spends the first few months of the school year not attempting to hide her disdain, and it doesn't take long for James to reciprocate it.
But forced proximity always does the trick, and it doesn't take long for them to blur the lines between loathing and lust- and then blossom into even more.

Hawthorne meets Covington herself
Clifford Hawthorne, president of the most successful law firm on the east coast, Hawthorne & Associates, has been caught tangled up in sheets with Mayor Covington's daughter, Emmeline. Emmeline herself is engaged to Graham Bradshaw, and the two were scheduled to wed this June.
Hawthorne & Associates was created by Hugo Hawthorne, Clifford Hawthorne's grandfather, and has been passed down the generations ever since. Hawthorne is married to Louisa Hawthorne, daughter of Quenton Davenport. Davenport owns Davenport & Co., Rhode Island's top real estate company. Their marriage was one of the biggest in Covington's history, as it branched together the two most prominent companies in Covington Place.
Covington Place was initially founded during the Revolutionary War by Emmeline's ancestor, Vincent Covington. Every Covington son, all named after the original, has been mayor. Because Vincent Covington V has only daughters, Emiline's fiance, Graham Bradshaw, who is running unopposed, will be the first mayor who isn't a Covington in Covington Place history.
For nearly two years, the two adulterers have been spotted in many places, checking into hotels and eating lunch in neighboring towns. On Emmeline's past birthday, the two were seen drinking wine to celebrate her 21st. The Hawthorne's and Covington's always said it was business, that the two most powerful families in Covington Place needed to remain friendly and on good terms; however, we didn't know that "friendly and good terms" meant getting nice and comfortable in the sheets at the Hilton in Providence.
Emmeline, 21, is less than half the age of Hawthorne, who is turning 50 this April. Louisa Hawthorne rests at a pleasant 45 years old, but that obviously isn't pleasant enough for Clifford. Maybe he likes his age gaps like his money: big and barely legal.
After the news of her father's affair is printed on the front page of their local newspaper and then tossed onto the front porch of every house in their prestigious small town, Lily's family coincidentally decides it's time for a vacation to Key West, Florida and she is not happy. She despises her father and is forced to spend time with him as if everything is fine.
Then she meets James, and suddenly, the week seems much more bearable. The two are constantly sneaking off to do something or another with each other, and it's the best week of her life.
some concepts that i don't have really anything as worked out like the others but still like to think about:
Lily's home in her coastal tourist town for the summer waiting tables and James is staying with his grandparents for the summer. After she serves him, he cannot get her out of his mind and they soon start an unforgettable summer fling.
Set in Georgia or some other place in the deep south (bible belt). She's the daughter of a preacher and a terrible influence on James.
A short fic based off of Billie Eilish's song "Billie Bossa Nova". I'm thinking that they're both high level executives at a law firm and meet up in secret. Suuuper secret and sexy, which you could assume if you know the song :)
i think that's it, but i'm sure there's more. if any of you have any fics you can only seem to day dream about please
also thanks if you made it this far. ilysm <333
this is part of that snippets fic i started months ago, and i figured i'd just post it here too. enjoy some fluff :))) <333
read on ao3 (if you liked this then you'll love the rest of the stuff i have in this fic)
The party had a decent turnout, although only sixth and seventh years are allowed- primarily due to the immense amount of alcohol being supplied. James thought Sirius was going a little overboard, but he insisted. He deems the excessive amount of alcohol necessary to properly celebrate James and his team's win of their first Quidditch match.
James is only a bit tipsy. He wants to set a responsible example, a downfall that came with being Head Boy. Although getting sloshed sounded divine, he knows that he is held to different standards. Besides, watching a bunch of drunk people was almost as fun.
Lily's one of those aforementioned drunk people. James is a bit shocked to see her take her first shot, but he doesn't entirely mind, as he knows she needs to let loose as she never really has.
But after about seven shots and three trips to throw up in the bathroom, James figures it's time for Lily to stop letting loose and start wrapping the night up, and since he's been with her nearly the entire night, he figures he can do it. He isn't sure where any of her friends are and doesn't want to bother them when he could do it himself.
The stairs challenge Lily, who's laughing the entire way. One bonus to being Head Boy is that it allows James to enter the girls' dormitories. He's never tried to, as he never had a reason, but figures the magic allowed him to for occasions like this.
"You played so well during the game tonight, James," Lily says as they neared her dorm, "I don't think I've ever seen anyone look that good."
James isn't sure if she means to compliment his looks or quidditch talent, but he knows not to press. If she were sober, he'd be delighted to have a cheeky conversation about his dashing looks, but it seems unfair to take advantage of Lily in this situation. He knows she's prone to saying things she wouldn't sober, and he doesn't want to manipulate it out of her.
"Well, if it weren't for your cheering, I don't think we could've gotten that win," is all he responds with.
Lily stops a stair ahead of him and turns around to face him, "Why didn't you kiss me at Hogsmead? Or that one time during the rainstorm?"
The sudden direct comment surprises James, as he can only raise his eyebrows and mutter a choking "Come again?" as an answer.
"You know, I just thought you would both times, and then you didn't," Lily is less giddy now, although there isn't any form of hurt in her voice, which is a positive sign to James. Maybe this is the confirmation needed to tell James she's been feeling the same way.
"Er-I-" he starts, and then he sighs as she puts her hand on his neck, and he wraps his fingers around her wrist. He can be honest with her, as she most likely won't remember it tomorrow, "I honestly got scared."
"Do you want to kiss me now?" Lily asks him, looking at his lips. This whole situation is cruel- her taunting him when he can't do anything about it. The exact thing he has been praying for the past few years is finally happing, but his honour won't allow him to act on it. It would be so easy to let this happen, to follow her into her room and just cave in. He wonders if that's what her friends are thinking will happen. If this situation had occurred even two years ago, it would be a different outcome, but James isn't the same boy he was then.
Besides, it's easy to want someone when you're under other influences. Standards are lowered, feelings rise, and James wants Lily sober for this sort of decision.
"I always want to kiss you, Lily," James whispers back. The alcohol and hope of her forgetting all of this make honesty easier to produce.
Lily's eyes brighten, and her lips pull into a smile as she leans down slightly. She almost seems sober, but her swaying, slurred speech, and alcohol-scented breath say otherwise, "So why don't you?"
James exhales, brushing her hair behind her ear, "I want you to want me sober."
"I do, James-"
"I don't want our first kiss to be like this. You mean more to me than tipsy actions," James continues, and he is actively kicking himself for what he's doing, "You know I wouldn't feel good with you in this sort of condition."
Lily sighs, "You're too good to me, James."
"Not nearly what you deserve, Lily."
James hears someone walking up the stairs and see's it's Dorcus as she rounds the corner.
"There you are, Lils!" Dorcus smiles at the two of them.
Lily's eyes brighten at the sight of her friend as she excitedly claps her hands, "D, I have so much to tell you about what just happened. You're going to scream."
Dorcus reaches the two of them and raises an eyebrow at James. Of course, Lily made it seem like James really is trying to take advantage of her.
"Not what you're thinking, don't worry," James shifts to the side, letting go of Lily so Dorcus can take her.
Dorcus nods and turns to Lily, "Let's go to bed, yeah?"
"Oh, please, I hope I have another dream-"
"Off to bed!" Dorcus cuts her off in a panicked tone, leaving lots to be speculated on James's end.
"Thank you, Potter," Dorcus smiles at him as the two girls keep walking up the stairs to reach their dorm.
"Bye, James!" Lily waves excitedly, "You better follow up on what you said to me!"
James only shakes his head as butterflies flood his chest and a broad smile fills his face.
That was precisely the confirmation, or rather the sign that he needed.
i experienced a lot of writers block as i was debating where to take the story and then now as we enter into the colder months, i am finding myself wanting to write more about that stuff-- however i do promise myself that for any work on anything else, i'm going to write for cruel summer.
i really appreaciate people like you checking in as the support means a lot to me, especially right now. i'm going through a bit of a hard time and it's nice to know people are still wanting to read my work!!!
in sum, cruel summer has not been abandoned and i don't intend on abandoning it any time soon-- and maybe keep an eye out for another short project maybe perhaps :))))
