He sits with this laptop on his lap and dances his fingers over the keys nonsensically so it makes a typing sound and he wards this knowing little smile on his face as the the light from the device lights up his childish grin— his heart warmed by the knowledge that I know he’s not really using the computer but no one else is paying attention and so me saying anytning about it makes me look insane. We make eye contact every now and again as I help my mom make a craigslist ad. He wants to feel included. And I know he feels this way and is thinking this because I am his spawn and I share this exact fucking psycho thought pattern.

I once signed up to participate in a study on how depression affects memory, forgot I was meant to go do it, and when I emailed to apologise to the PhD student running it she basically told me that a) she was very used to this happening and b) the weird irony of her theories’ correctness making it very difficult to arrange proving them had by now gone from infuriating to hysterical

I went to the Grand Canyon when I was depressed and I literally forgot the whole thing. Like, the only reason I even know I was there is that I have photographs of myself standing in front of the Grand Canyon with dead eyes but i have absolutely no memory of it

People talk about depression like it’s just being sad all the time but straight up your brain stops working and sadness is just one of the many, many consequences of that

My mom’s friend was out shopping when a (very not asian) woman came up and started berating her for not wearing a mask. Asian businesses in my area are suffering. Some people are refusing to interact with anyone who looks Asian.

Asian-Americans have been through racism already. We’re fucking sick of it. We’re not flea-infested rats; we are actual people who most likely have never been to China.

And if you’re not Asian and see someone being racist and giving a poor schmuck a hard time for having squinty eyes and dark hair, tell them to knock it off and they’re being a butt.
