The US-state of Delaware is located at the Atlantic coast in the east of the United States. It is relatively small -- just 48 kilometres in width and 154 kilometres in length; that makes Delaware the second-smallest state of the US.

The pictures in the letters show different ocean sceneries since Delaware shares a peninsula with parts of Maryland and Virginia. With the Delaware River and the Atlantic ocean there are lots of opportunities to enjoy coastal views - more than 20 percent of Delaware are covered with water.

This maxicard from China refers to the monkey king Sun Wukong who is a character in the Chinese novel Journey to the West. Sun Wukong has supernatural powers. In Journey to the West he accompanies the monk Xuanzang. The monkey king is well-known character and can be found today in lots of tales, stories and even in video games.

I love this postcard of Calgary, Canada. It is kind of retro -- 80-ish -- but gives an idea how big the city actually is. Calgary has around 1 million inhabitants and is the fourth-largest city in Canada. The first Europeans settled down in this area in the 1860s, however, the Blackfoot can be traced back a further couple of houndreds years.

This maxicard is definitely a special piece. It shows the Cave of Niaux in the south-west of France, close to the border of Spain. The cave contains lots of prehistoric paintings -- the card illustrates one of these.

From the 17th century until today lots of tourists came to see those paintings, however, it was only discovered around 1906 that those paintings were really, really old. The card shows a painting in the Salon Noir that was discovered in 1907. You can still visit the cave - but only in guided tours. It is recommended to book ahead since the total amount of visitors is limited in order to keep the temperature by around 12 degrees.
