Bobbin Bobble - Yarn Witch Doll Custom (November 2025)
Base Doll: G3 Draculaura Shoe Base: G3 Venus McFlytrap Leggings: Ordered from @hauntcouture Dress Pattern: Frankensteined from Requiem Arts' Casual Cutie Dress and Dollightful's Asymmetrical Dress
Wanna hear more about my process? Here you go, prepare for the yap session:
There's no feeling quite as good as finishing a new doll custom. And oh boy, do I have a lot to say about this one. XD Bobbin gave me a lot of trouble, but she's quickly become one of my favorite dolls yet, so prepare for a LOT of yapping.
First, some character context: for those of you who are new here (hi, welcome, lovely to have you!), I've been getting into Kirby over the course of the last year. And as a result, like I do with most things I'm invested in, a fan character was inevitably going to be made. Bobbin is my little arachnid yarn witch that draws heavy inspiration from Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby Triple Deluxe, and Kirby Right Back At Ya!
She's the niece of Epic Yarn's main villain, Yin Yarn, following a plotline of not wanting to continue in his evil footsteps, rebelling with a band of heroes, and starting a quest to become Patchland's greatest mage. She has grown so much over the last year, making all kinds of friends, getting a number of design tweaks, and figuring out more of who she is and who she wants to me. She's learned so much on her quest for magic, making all sorts of runes and constructs out of yarn. The crochet hook you see her pictured with here is actually her magic staff! She uses it for chaining spells together both figuratively and literally.
Bobbin is so near and dear to my heart, I knew I wanted her to join my dolls with a gjinka form, but nailing down the look proved difficult. Out of all the dolls I've done over the past several years, I'm really proud of myself with her sewing. Originally I made Dollightful's Asymmetrical Dress straight out, because it felt very "magical girl", which is a vibe I thought would suit Bobbin. But the volume ended up being too poofy, to the point where it wasn't fitting the character anymore. So I had to go back to the drawing board. I scaled up Requiem Art's Casual Cutie dress pattern and added onto it, then used similar sleeves from the Asymmetrical dress to get our final look here.
I'm really proud of how her cape turned out. No patterns from anyone else, I figured out how to make that all on my own, and it turned out really cute! I'm really pleased with the cowel in particular. This was my first time sewing a snap onto a garment instead of using velcro, and I have to say, it feels really nice. Also my first time utilizing pompoms, which really added something.
Really glad that I got to use resin again too. I almost finished the last of my Sophie and Toffee two part resin, which is some of the nicest stuff I've ever used. Mixed it with a bunch of magenta pearlex powder and glitters in my stash so that she could have her spider eyes and the button on her cape. I also mixed up some silver to try and make her a crochet hook that was custom, but it didn't end up working out. I may come back to it someday, but for now she gets to borrow my hook.
Her yarn hair was surprisingly difficult to pull off. I did my usual method of brushing out some yarn and making wefts for her bangs, but the rest? I needed to do a bunch of fanangling to get it to lay right on her head, and it took a lot of playing with different glues to get it right. On her scalp, it's all glued down with my usual tacky glue. Her buns are both made of foam clay, and I used some elmer's school glue to get the yarn wrapped around and attached without getting crusty or weird. Then we hot glued some magnets on the bottom, that way I can take them off if I ever want to put a cute hat on her (she has goals of one day having a witch hat). The foam clay also made it very easy to stab the sewing pins into, which was great.
Of course, I have to give credit where its due: repainting this doll's skintone was so much easier than any other doll I've done this on. I hate repainting the skintone, the worst part of doing my Bendy dolls is usually getting the yellow on the plastic body. But I tried something new this time that honestly? Made my life way easier. I followed a tutorial by Sylphic Studios over on YouTube, and her technique was exactly what I needed for this custom. Thank you Makenna, you are a gem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxyXDW3fi7s
Also important to credit, I learned how to make glasses for the first time! Found a tutorial that suited my needs, so here it is for your enjoyment too! https://youtu.be/5lkxT59J-t0?si=v7Hw0m1prVxRdi0c
Overall, really pleased with how this doll came out. I have more photos of her that I'd like to share over time. But for now, I hope you enjoy this collection. I'm glad she was finished before the leaves had all fallen. It was important to get them in those shots.
Thank you for reading! Here's wishing you a wonderful day, a great rest of the week, and sending you power to create the crafts of your dreams! <3

American Girl should make a character in either the neglected contemporary line or Girl of the year line who is a reader, and had to make a fundraiser to stop her local library from closing. Maybe she opens a tiny free library at her house. They should have a doll who's in Battle of The Books at school. I think a bookish character would be so fun and I'm shocked nothing was done with this yet.

Also yes I've just realized I am suffering doll collector burn out. I love MH and dolls but I'm overwhelmed with the non stop drops and I'm not crazy about the prices either. Could be because I'm worried about money/economy thanks to the U.S. being in financial ruin or my guilt around engaging in overconsumption but as happy as I am to get a new doll I feel guilt too like I've just wasted my money.
Does anyone feel like this? I mean my only solution is down sizing what I'm actively collecting but as a G3 completionist collector I am struggling in that area.
100%, often find myself wishing doll companies would slow down or at least space things out better do there's not a drought followed by non-stop drops
LOOK AT THIS DOLL 😭 I NEED HER
going on the christmas list for sure
Awhile back my wife got some cheap "Tommy" clothes for her dolls and was nice enough to share them with me. I think Karina and Viera look super cute!
The unhemmed collars do bug me a little but I'm 99% any attempts I'd make to fix would make it look worse
I got this gorgeous briar beauty awhile back for cheap on marketplace. I think she was ten bucks and came with some Barbie clothes and a hello kitty doll. I think she has all of the pieces too, i just took off the necklace because i think it looks better without.
(painted plastic accessories, what??)
She's become good friends with Draculaura.
Iha in a swimsuit and skirt i made her. They're pretty terrible tbh but i kind of like them anyway. Making stuff this tiny is hard.
Also made these at the beginning of the summer and didn't get around to taking pictures until now. Guess i should get her some winter clothes now.
Day 3 of Raquel wearing her great-great grandmother’s hand-me-downs
Real talk if i have an idea for a doll line how do i get a meeting with toy company executive to pitch it
Well she's here...and it turns out, doesn't have a stand! 🤨 Guess we know how MGA kept the price so low. Anyway such being the case I'm not going to unbox her until I can round up a stand from the basement, maybe root out OG Shanelle while I'm at it so we can compare them. This probably won't happen until tomorrow. First impression is more like than love, but we'll see if that changes once I handle her.
Why would you not include a stand on a doll line that normally has stands on a doll that's aimed at collectors. Who is making the calls. Mga hire me
