Shawnmas Calendar: Day 7 - Secret Santa
Every year, your group of friends would play Secret Santa before Christmas instead of each of you getting a gift for everyone. This was not only easier and cheaper for all of you, it also led to some uncommon combinations of people who usually donât talk that much to each other. That was the case for you this year because you picked a friend of a friend who you had met a few times but you rarely ever had talked to her. What you didnât know was that your best friend Shawn was rather lucky this year, picking you which should be fairly easy for him. The problem was that it wasnât.
He had wracked his brain for weeks, the day when he would have to give you your present coming nearer until he finally had an idea but was still very insecure whether you would like it or not. A few arrangements had to be done, Andrew and him went back and forth about it but finally, they had managed to find a solution and he was excited to meet you today to tell you about your present. Usually, you would have a big get-together with your friends where everyone could give their gift to the person they had to play Secret Santa for but this year, Shawn wasnât able to make it due to the upcoming Jingle Ball shows he was gonna play so he had to meet up with you under false pretence.
Your relationship with Shawn was weird. You knew each other for a few years now and became very close very quickly but something had always been off. Naturally, you didnât see each other as often as normal best friends would because he was always on the road but there was something else to it. And when you saw each other, it was usually with your other friends there as well because he always tried to make the most of his time home.
He was an affectionate guy so he was affectionate with you as well but when the two of you got drunk, it got weird. You had never kissed, let alone had sex but as soon as you lost just a bit of your inhibitions, the two of you were attached at the hip at every party you went to. The few times you smoked weed together were even weirder and you had been pretty sure every time that something would happen between the two of you but it never did. You had snuggled and touched each other, Shawn had even kissed your neck at some point, but he had never tried to kiss your lips. Sometimes you thought that he was just waiting, that he wanted you to make the first big step because he was too respectful to try anything. Then again, you had heard stories of him making out with other girls at the club when you werenât there so maybe all of this had just been him being affectionate with you as a friend. You hadnât figured him out completely yet even though you called him your best friend for some time now.
âSo⊠whatâs up with your sister?â, you wanted to know while sipping on your coffee. Shawn had wanted to meet up at your favorite cafĂ©, using his sister as an excuse to get your there as soon as possible.
âYou had asked me to meet you because you needed to talk to me about Aaliyah.â
âOh rightâ, he chuckled, âThat was⊠just to get you here today. Because I knew youâd say yes if I mentioned Aaliyah, soâŠâ
You raised an eyebrow at him, feeling a little pissed at this white lie.
âOkay⊠and why am I here then?â
âWell uhm⊠â, he stuttered as he rummaged around his the pocket of his coat, âSurprise?â
In front of you lied one of his printed guitar pics, wrapped in a tiny bow. You picked it up, inspecting it from both sides to find a secret message but without results.
âIâm your secret Santa this year.â
You stared at him, still confused at this âgiftâ you just got.
â⊠thanks, I guess?â
He rolled his eyes and threw his head back.
âItâs not the pick, silly⊠thatâs just a token present. I thought uhm⊠I didnât want to buy you anything random because you know⊠felt a bit impersonal to me. So I thought⊠if youâd want to, you could come with me the next three weeks? To the Jingle Ball shows? Itâs pretty cool. Khalid will be there, too. And I⊠you know⊠Iâd love to spend time with you.â
Shawn scratched his neck while he was looking at your right shoulder awkwardly. Now that he had said it, the idea sounded stupid. How could he expect you to just drop everything and come on a mini tour with him? Why would you want to come with him at all? It had been presumptuous of him to think this was a nice gift for you. He shouldâve gotten you a nice scarf or something. Anything that didnât make him look like a total dick right now.
âSo⊠Iâd come as your plus one?â, you ripped him out of his regretful thoughts. Maybe you were reading too much into this but it was a big deal that he wanted you to come with him for three whole weeks, right? And if he gifted it to you, he would make sure to spend some quality time with you too, wouldnât he?
âUh⊠yeah⊠my plus one, basically.â
Great, he thought, now you were thinking he wanted to drag you around for entertainment. Just to have someone with him.
âSounds great. I gotta ask a few people if they can give me their notes of the classes Iâll miss, but Iâll make sure to clean my schedule. We gotta go Christmas shopping somewhere thought. I donât have anything yet.â
A warm genuine smile graced your face. Shawn had a hard time processing what you had just said.
âYou⊠you will? I⊠You really wanna come with me?â
âOf course I do, idiot. I love to watch you play, you know that. And I⊠Iâd really like to spend time with you alone⊠kinda. You know, without the rest of our friends.â
This confession took him by surprise.
âWell uhm⊠you may need to share me with a few fans in front of the hotel and my team in between⊠but not the whole time.â
âAs long as theyâre not in the hotel roomâ, you grinned at him.
Was that a sexual innuendo from you? God, he hoped it was.
âYeah no⊠Iâll make sure we get some alone time.â
âCool⊠Thatâs a great gift actually. Your time, I mean. Because you donât have a lot of it and⊠it would be great to see you for so long.â
âYeah you say that now⊠wait til weâre in week two.â
You stood up and leaned forward over the table to give him a soft kiss on his flushed cheek, dangerously close to his lips.
