i am a non sharing draco malfoy self shipper/yume! i started shipping with him when i was around 12 and have been for about 8-9 years. we grew up together and i now include him as an adult in my dc universe. my point is i do not ship myself with kid draco. our young appearances are mainly for story purposes, as i’d rather focus on our current selves for shipping.

Summary:
It had been a year since the Battle of Hogwarts. One year, two months, and twenty-six days. Lucius Malfoy was in Azkaban, and by now everyone knew better than to ask Narcissa about her son. Draco had not left Malfoy Manor since the funeral of his partner, Zacharie.
Word travelled fast in the wizarding world, and it did so on the day Draco was finally spotted in Hogsmeade, strolling through shops with none other than Luna Lovegood.

Though the stares were noticeable, they were nothing compared to the volume of whispers.
“Lord, look at his hair! He looks—”
“—Just like his father, exactly—”
“Who’s that he’s with?”
“How long’s it been? A year, two?”
Luna drifted into a bookstore, Draco trailing beside her looking tired and mean. His hair had grown to shoulder-length and the skin under his pale eyes darkened in exhaustion. “Do you know, I’ve been reading those werewolf-vampire romance books written by muggles,” Luna mused, smiling peacefully as she browsed the shelves. “You’d like them, Draco. You like those dark types.”
If anyone else said it, Draco would’ve hexed them. Instead, he rolled his eyes. “No thanks. You enjoy that, though, sounds very ‘you’” he scoffed. He lowered his voice and added, “And don’t talk so loud. It feels like everyone’s listening in.”
“Oh, they are,” said Luna matter-of-factly, “Anyway, I was thinking we’ll get something to eat soon, then we can get to the show early,” she went on, “Unless you’d rather shop a bit longer?”
“Whatever,” Draco said. “I suppose I’d rather be early than late. Let’s just keep moving.”
“Alright. There’s just one more shop I want to go to.” Luna set off to lead Draco out of the bookstore, gossipping whispers following them as they went.
“So what is it, a date?”
“Are they together now?”
“I thought he was gay. Or she was gay, or something.”
“No you’re right, because didn’t he kill his boyfriend?”
Draco stopped in his tracks. Luna had wandered a few feet away before she realized he wasn’t beside her anymore.
“His ex, something like that, I think.”
“Handed him over to You-Know-Who.”
“Just say Voldemort, man—”
“Whatever, he killed him either way!”
“Watch your mouth!” Draco lashed out. Luna took Draco’s hand and ushered him away, his hair falling over his face as he forced his gaze to the ground.
…
Draco finally swatted Luna’s hand away when they regrouped in the bathroom of a nearby coat shop.
“This was stupid,” he snapped, beginning to pace back and forth in the small space, “I knew I shouldn’t have— have let you— my mother— drag me out here... I want to go home now. This was a terrible idea, I don’t know why I even considered it, much less actually ended up in Hogsmeade…”
Luna stood patiently and let Draco rant, watching him toss his platinum hair away from his flushed face. When it seemed he had none more to say, she started kindly, “If Zacharie were—”
“Don’t,” Draco interrupted quickly, “Don’t even start with that, I’m sick of it. He’s dead, he’s dead, so just shut up, you useless, Loony—”
Luna did not say anything, but stared blankly at Draco with her wide gray eyes. When Draco didn’t finish his sentence, she cocked her head slightly.
Draco’s lip trembled.“Don’t,” Draco interrupted quickly, “Don’t even start with that, I’m sick of it. He’s dead, he’s dead, so just shut up, you useless, Loony—”
Luna did not say anything, but stared blankly at Draco with her wide gray eyes. When Draco didn’t finish his sentence, she cocked her head slightly.
Draco’s lip trembled. He groaned in frustration and dropped his gaze to the tile floor, his shaking hands clenched into fists at his sides.
“I’m… sorry.”
He said it like he had little experience.
Luna stepped around him, and when Draco looked back, she had sat on the floor with her back against the wall. His lip curled in disgust. “What are you doing?”
She patted the tile beside her in invitation.
“On the floor?” Draco sneered. Still, he begrudgingly joined her, his all black outfit distinct against her bright summer dress. He let his head rest on his knees, his arms loosely shielding his face.
Luna spoke gently, “I know you didn’t mean it. But still, you probably should be more careful. Not everyone is as understanding as me.”
“And him,” Draco said, the sound muffled as he refused to lift his head.
“Well yes, but I wasn’t sure I was allowed to say that,” Luna remarked, without a trace of bitterness.
Draco lifted his head with a deep sigh, his eyes rather red. “You’re just like him,” he said begrudgingly. “He’s… He was blunt like you, and he always had that stupid face.”
“What face?”
“None,” Draco replied, “Just, like, thinking, all the time. He—he had a lot to think about. Today’s his birthday, d’you know that?”
Luna shook her head in response, and the two sat in silence for a minute. Just when Luna wondered if they would still go to their show, Draco spoke up again, his voice trembling.
“It’s my fault he died.”
Luna looked at him. His face was hidden again, his head resting in his arms, his long blond hair draped onto his knees.
“I feel sure you’ve explained this to me before. He sold his soul before he knew us, didn’t he? He was going to die no matter what?” Luna asked bluntly.
“But it wasn’t supposed to happen yet. Not like… like that.”
“How was it supposed to happen?” Luna asked simply, “Did he ever tell you? You know, what would happen when his time ran out?”
Draco shuddered. “I think he told me too much, actually. I’d be better off not knowing where he is now. What was I supposed to tell him— ‘Stop talking about dying, you’re freaking me out?’”
“Maybe it’s like you used to hope. Maybe it’s not as bad as he thought.”
“D’you really believe that?”
“Well, why don’t we just believe it for today, at least? For his birthday.”
Luna gently took Draco’s hand in her own once more, and this time he didn’t slap her away. He let out a deep sigh, though he couldn’t bring himself to answer.
…
The demon Belphegor whipped back the curtain of the Prince’s bedroom, allowing the warm Hellish air to waft in. The sky outside the tower swirled gray and ashy red, but the relative light was unwelcome in the dark bedroom.
“Wakey wakey, birthday boy,” Belphegor mused.
Zacharie groaned and covered his face with his hands, “Go away, Bel.”
“Aw, morning, Your Highness,” Bel teased. “What’s wrong? Something on your mind?” he asked insincerely.
Zacharie huffed a sigh as he stretched out on his bed, He telekinetically shoved the curtains closed. “Nothing I wanna share,” he sighed.
