âQuite impactfully,â she mutters, choosing not to let her thoughts linger on the cityâs STD-ridden couches.â Back to Brooklyn ?â With a long, hopefully uncomfortable silence, Lorelai considers his words. Once upon a time, she would had been delighted to live next to her brother. That was precisely why sheâd never forgive him, after all: that heâd left them in the first place. Still, with a drawn out sigh to rival the previous silence, she glances at her watch.â You have exactly three minutes to explain why you think thatâs a good idea. Weâve been doing just fine without you and you clearly didnât miss us.â
++Â
âIâd expect nothing less.â He replied, knowing his sister to be one of the most impactful people he knew, even in her anger. âYeah, back to Brooklyn.â He confirmed, heâd been in Staten Island since Leo had been turned, offering what support he could tolerate, but everything seemed to be falling apart, so he came back, forced himself into it, made a financial commitment, told his family, gave himself consequences for if it all became too much and he wanted to run away again. âYou know thatâs bullshit, youâve probably thrown out years of letters proving that.â Lu countered without answering her question, knowing that he couldnât give her a good answer, knowing that he didnât think it was a good idea. He wanted to protect his family, do what he could to help them, but he knew that he would be their destruction.Â
[ mylene delacroix·. ]
Mylene narrowed her eyes at him, not sure if he was telling the truth or just making it up as a cover. She sighed and relaxed her expression. âIf thatâs true, then I would say maybe consider putting your phone on vibrate instead?â she countered playfully. âGuilt is no fun, I try to avoid that feeling,â she added with a wave of her hand. âSo your first time away from your baby and you choose to come to a library?â she asked, assuming he was telling the truth. âObviously Iâm not judging, this is my favourite place to be, itâs just not the first thing I think most people would do.âÂ
++
âDoes this look like a dishonest face? This is the face of truth.â Lucian joked, pointing at his own face and flashing a charming smile. âAnd I could have done that, but honestly, I was nervous I would miss something important if my phone didnât basically scream at me.â He explained, before pulling out his phone and flipping it onto silent. âJust for you I will do it, but know that I am going to be a nervous wreck cause of this.â He looked down and shook his head a little at the womanâs words, an easy smile pulling at the corners of his mouth. âI am fully aware of how much of a dork that makes me, but yes. I was given freedom and decided that I needed even more books in my life.â
[Â mirana diaz. ]
â You like â â She actually scoffs, taken aback, and drags a tire hand down her face. â It astounds me that I have to be the breath of fresh air in any scenario. â She associates more with the hazy, smoke-filled rooms in sketchy clubs, better left avoided if you enjoyed your health. Still, she did just agree to nice, and the smell of coffee wafting towards her is too enticing. â Fine, fine, doubt my sources. â She waves him off as she reaches to cradle the coffee in both hands, inhaling deeply. Without bothering with the heat, she drinks a few long gulps and smiles slightly to herself in contentment. â Well, you might as well make yourself useful and turn on a good opening playlist, â Mira says at last, as if he isnât the one already cleaning the counter while she finishes her coffee.
++
The witch couldnât help but smirk at the womanâs reaction to his words. âOr I could just be joking, throwing you off track. Youâll never know.â Lu joked easily, a lopsided smile on his lips as he leaned against the bar, the picture of confidence. âI will continue to doubt them. Care to disclose who is besmirching my devious reputation?â He joked, the words the tiniest bitter on his tongue, not really wanting to talk himself down to Mira and disclose all the rumours, and not so rumours, that circulated about him. âSure, sure.â Lu replied, tapping on his phone and playing the last music he was listening to, Lime Cordial filling the bar. Without thinking, Lu began to absently sing along with the words as he began filling the pouring wells, only stoping when he turned to Mira. âDoes the music need to change, or?â
[Â lorelai hastings. ]
â I was trying to form a logical conclusion, but clearly nothing about your life follows any pattern ! â Lorelai inhales deeply as she listens to Lucianâs explanation of how he ended up with an abandoned infant in his motherâs kitchen while trying not to swear in its presence. â Alright, even erasing rent-a-baby or gambling binge, there is no reason you should be responsible for your friendâs baby. Itâs unlikely a far leap to assume that you slept with your â friend â, but was it⊠nine months plus⊠how old is it ? Plus that ago ? Or is it even a safe assumption that your â friend â exclusively only was friendly with you ? Thereâs far too many variables here for to me believe what Iâm insurmountably concerned that youâre attempting to imply. â
++
âRental baby is not a logical conclusion, itâs a crime?â He replied, still incredulous that his sister could think that of him. âI am responsible for it, sheâs gone to who knows where and someone has to look after him, heâs just shit out of luck that Iâm the sod that he got stuck with.â He didnât know how true that was, or was it just that he didnât want to be like his father, leaving them, whether or not the baby in the carrier was his. âIâve done the math, it checks out. She left a note saying he was mine, and a paternity test will be happening, soon, but I havenât slept since she left it and it has no clothes, right now I donât need you adding to the insanity, Iâm still processing.â
[Â lorelai hastings. ]
â Debauchery ? â Lorelai doesnât bother to hide her laughter. â I shouldnât be surprised at all. Well, youâll have to inform me whether youâre planning on thirty-three and trashy or a medieval brothel at the chateau. Do you think your grandmother would notice ? â She is still smiling at the queen remark when she laughs again. â A Lorelai Mai Tai ! Why did none of us think of that in time ? Maybe we can celebrate New Years with signature cocktails with the coven. âÂ
++
âGotta mix it up, the twins had a ball, youâve got dark fantasy in a palace, if I do something classy the world will think weâre one trick ponies. Canât have me besmirching the Hastingâs name anymore than it already has been.â Lu joked, only speaking so flippantly about their father and his antics due to the alcohol coursing through his system. âI was thinking Mardi Gras, marching band, lots of drinks, masks and costumes. Saints and Sinners never fails? Or Coyote Ugly, I look great on top of a bar. And MĂšre would love all of those.â He couldnât help but laugh at the way that his sister got excited about the drink name, glad that he could talk to her without her giving him one of the looks that broke his heart. âCause no one asked me about drink names, and we should definitely do that.â

âHey? So Jules might have mentioned that it was your birthday and I know its probably pretty shitty to have your birthday in the middle of a blackout? Iâve heard you Hastings like to go all out, so I know its probably not the best consolation prize, but surprise?â Liv awkwardly offered up, holding out a stack of twinkies she had arranged on a plate to resemble a birthday cake with some candles in it over to her brother. âI, uh, I moved around a lot as a kid. Pretty much grew up in motels, so this has always been my sort of makeshift birthday tradition for myself, but if you hate it, feel free to throw it out after I leave. No hard feelings.â
++
âI donât know, itâs not so bar so far. Iâve got friends like Jules looking out for me so I canât complain, but thank you itâs amazing.â He replied with an easy smile. Heâd had a hunch something bad was going to happen recently, so he hadnât expected too much from his birthday, and with everything that had happened to him of late it was easy to let things like his birthday slip by. âI donât hate it at all, I love it actually, my first birthday after I moved away was a twinkie and a drive-thru daiquiri so I love it. Whyâd you move around, if you donât mind me asking?â
LUCIAN HASTINGS.
âYeah, it works, here you go.â He offered, no questions asked. He knew the blackout would be stressful for a lot of people, and there wasnât any warning it was going to happen. They had all been in the dark and now they were stuck in it. âI have a powerbank at my bar too, if you want to make the trip and youâre desperate for the charge.â He offered. âIâd recommend it, people are saying this could last for a couple of days.
âââ · ăïŸâ: *.✠.* :âïŸ. âââ
âThank you.â Taking the phone from him and instantly texting both her sister and her assistant, but she did take note of the fact that Lucian had Devinâs number in his phone. âInteresting that you know my sister.â Making the off handed comment before continuing her texts. âWait you do?â Looking up when he mentioned a power bank. âYes, Iâll go with you gladly for one. Is your bar far or would you like me to call my car service?â Offering as she attempted to hand back his phone, but kept it still in case she did need to summon a car. âA couple of days? Ugh, that is actually my worst nightmare.â Putting her hand to her head, she could feel the splitting headache coming on. âHopefully itâs not actually that long because if so Iâm pretty sure Iâm going to lose my mind. I know I was around before phones existed, but I would like to not have to cancel my twelve events for the weekend or all of my plans for that matter.â While she usually didnât rant to randoms people, at this point she welcomed anyone who would listen. Running her hand through her hair, she moved it away from her face. âDo you really think itâll be out as long as theyâre saying or are they exaggerating?â

"For a city of 8 million people it can be a bit like a small town sometimes, everyone knows everyone." Lu mused. It really did feel that way sometimes, particularly within the supernatural inhabitants that had made New York their home. "Yeah, I keep a couple charged all the time, I live in a converted apartment above a bar, there's not a tonne of power outlets, power banks was more convenient that a lot of extension cords." He explained with a simple shrug. "Honestly up to you, it's four blocks down, I don't mind either way." He shrugged, not going for his phone until she made up her mind, truely uneffected either way. He liked the quiet, he liked how it seemed like the city was sleeping, an eerie calm blanketing his home. "Honestly I get it, you get so used to them it's strange not to have it available. I hate to say it though, I have a hunch they're right." Lucian had never been a fan of his powers, of the nightmarish futures they whisperer to him, but he had learnt to trust the little hunches he sometimes had.
[Â selene khan. ]
âNooooâ Selene gasped as she tapped on the black screen of her phone, she slowly felt like everything was going wrong. âYouâve got to be fucking kidding me.â Continuing to tap the phone aggressively in the hopes it would make the phone light up, but the screen still stayed completely dark. Knowing that even the charger in her purse wasnât even going to help her considering there was a city wide black out. Seeing the person nearest her and she tapped their arm lightly. âDoes your phone work? Mineâs completely dead and well⊠a charger clearly isnât going to help give wellâŠâ Gesturing to the darkness around them.

âYeah, it works, here you go.â He offered, no questions asked.

Ilana entered the apartment with a large grin on their face. âOkay, so itâs not much, but I grabbed who I saw and also a muffin which is as close to a cake as I could find. Thereâs some candles, and all this to say Happy Birthday.â The blackout had happened and there was so much chaos, sheâd wanted to be sure that Lucian didnât feel forgotten. He had a knack for playing things off like he didnât care but he always came through when Ilana needed, so she wanted to return the favor. âWeâve got a ragtag group, so I also just grabbed a bunch of bottles that I had, and Iâm requesting that you come through on that promise to introduce me to a drink that isnât for sad lawyers.â
âEven for the president of my fan club, this is going above and beyond.â Lu chuckled, throwing Ilana a warm smile. She was one of the nicest people he knew, sometimes aggressively so, and he couldnât help but appreciate the gesture. âThanks Ilana, and I will get to that drink right away.â Lu jumped behind the bar and made two drinks, the motions coming to him easily through years of practice. âAnd I present, the humble Hemingway daiquiri.â

â This is the last straw, U2. I bring you your drunken cravings and you casually forget to mention it was the start of your birthday ? I knew all your â best buddies â talk was just a sham. Didnât even have time to bake a cake, â she says with a faux look of annoyance, as if she isnât barely capable of boiling pasta.Â
++
âI could turn that back on you, Diaz, if you were my best buddy you would know that it was my birthday. Ilana knew, I never told her my birthday, but she knew. I feel hurt that there is no cake. But, if we put a candle on the burger I think it would count.â He joked easily, taking another drink from the bottle he was holding.Â

[Â Clover Byrne. ]
âAn alive baby is definitely a good thing,â Clover laughed. She couldnât imagine how Lucian was handling all this but she admired that he was. âWell whatâs his name? You know Iâm always free to babysit if you ever need it!â she added with a smile, she really did love kids. âMaybe heâll end up being an air witch too,â she joked.
âIt really is. And, he has everything he could ever need, I think I get a new package from Leo for him about once a week it feels like.â Lu chuckled, thinking to himself that he needed to remind his brother again not to waste his money on them. âHis name is Liam, and I donât know if I drunkenly told her my siblings all have matching names like weâre the Bridgertonâs, of if itâs a coincidence.â He joked. âAnd I might take you up on that. Anyway, enough about my mess, howâs your life going?â
[ Seren Kaplan·. ]
@darkesthourstarters·
Seren hadnât planned to work the adoption event, she tended to stay away from furry creatures, but her assistant had fallen sick. Which meant she was sticking this whole event out herself. Starring over at the dogs sitting and waiting to be adopted, she pouted slightly. While she wanted a dog, she knew that she couldnât be trusted with one. Her thoughts were interrupted by one of the mischievous puppies getting loose from their cage and making a run for it. Before the could get too far, Seren grabbed ahold of it. âWhat are you doing puppy?â She asked with a laugh. Booping the puppy lightly on the nose as she carried him back to the cage, she was just about to put him down when she spotted the other person. âDo you want to hold him?â She asked, offering the puppy to them. âHe could really use a home.âÂ
++
âHonestly I have enough trouble keeping a baby and a familiar alive, I donât know if I could manage a puppy too.â Lu joked before taking the puppy from Seren, scratching him behind the ears. âPlus, Sherlock might eat him.â He added, thinking to the doberman that had been with him since he came to his magic. âHe seems to like you though, would you consider it?â
[ Mylene Delacroix·. ]
@darkesthourstarters·
Mylene was at work, her arm full of books she had to reshelf, when she heard the distinct sound of a phone ringing that nearly made her jump and drop all the books. She turned towards the sound of the culprit and sighed. âYou know silence is the one main rule in a library right? If you silence it, Iâll pretend this never happened,â she added with a smirk. She loved her job but she didnât take it THAT seriously.Â
++
Did he need more books? No. Did he have an apartment full or them ready to be read or re-read? Yes. Did he still come to the library with his afternoon off? Also yes. He couldnât help it, he was addicted, always craving a new story to fall into. He nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard his phone go off. âHow bad would you feel if I said it wasnât on silent cause my baby, my sweet precious baby, is with a babysitter for the first time? Iâm just a nervous single parent doing my best. How many guilt points would I get for that?â Lu asked, returning the womanâs smirk.Â
[ clover byrne·. ]
âWow, thatâsâŠa lot,â Clover said slowly as she grasped everything he said. âAre you ok? How are you taking all this?â she wondered. She couldnât imagine all that happening to someone, it was more one of those things you think happens to people but no one you know. âDo you need any help with anything?âÂ
++
âUs Hastingâs have never been ones for half measures, itâs all go big or go home, and that counts for one night stands too. apparently. I should get a shirt that says I had a one night stand and all I got was this stupid baby.â He joked, trying to get all the thoughts of worry out of Cloverâs head, he could practically see them running through her head. âShockingly I think I have most things covered, and heâs not dead yet so I must be doing something not terribly.:

âI have to say this place is super awesome so props to grandma.â Holding out her flute to toast against his. âPlus the portals seem to be working well for everyone, I donât think weâve lost anyone to one yet.â She remarked with a shrug, worst case if they did theyâd just pop up in a different portal. âSo do you think the queen is having fun? I mean this should be her big night. Plus this is the party that everyone will be talking about for the rest of the year theme wise, you know besides the Hunter Games and Potion PartyâŠ. well hopefully no one talks about this one because death either, but Iâm pretty sure Lorelai wouldnât let someone die on her birthday.â
++
âMĂ©mĂ© is amazing.â Lu agreed as he clinked his flute against his sisters. âThatâs not necessarily a good thing.â He said, indicating his head to a certain ex-fling of his he wanted to avoid. âDo you think she did it on purpose or was it pure coincidence?â He chuckled. Looking around the party his eyes caught Lor and she seemed to be happy, to him at least, but he was no longer an authority on Lor, he hardly knew her sometimes and she made sure of that. âIâm sure sheâs having a great time, and if thereâs a death we can easily hide a body here, so problems.â
