The week had been longer than usual. Tahlia had become accustomed to the days dragging out in a dull routine but it didn’t mean she had to enjoy the fact. The only excitement she’d had all day was that on her walk to the book store it decided to start raining out of nowhere. Though most people would have picked up the pace, she continued on without hurrying, enjoying the feel of the cool rain on her skin. By the time she got to the store, she was damp but not to the point of dripping. She supposed it might be rude to leave a trail of water as she wandered around the aisles. After a few minutes even the chill from the raindrops on her skin had subsided.
Her fingers trailed along the spines of a row of books, trying to find a particular book that she knew was filled with poetry. As she’d been so involved in reading the titles, it really didn’t come as a surprise to her when she knocked right into someone else. “Oh! I’m so sorry. This is what happens when a person is too self-involved! Let me buy you a coffee.”
Lucky was on a mission of her own, albeit an aimless one. She came to the bookstore in search of the sequel to the series she was reading. When she came up empty, she looked for another fiction series and somehow found herself in the astrology section. It wasn’t long before the books piled up on the floor where she found herself sitting cross legged and thumbing through The Birthday Book. An hour must’ve passed by before an employee politely encouraged her to make a purchase. Her mouth formed in an o-shaped ring as she whispered an apology.
After collecting the books and finding her way back to her feet, the girl turned to place them in their rightful spots, only to collide into another body. “Oops! Sor-” She put her own apology on hold to listen. “Oh, that’s,” her eyebrows furrowed, “not necessary.” In fear of sounding standoffish, she added, “Besides, when I bump into the next person, then I’d spill hot coffee all over them.” Her lips pursed into a grimace imagining that mess. “Yeah. Why don’t we split a scone and call it even?”
