A good word for Lucinda would be ballerina. Watching a ballerina dance, it’s hard to imagine all the blood and sweat behind something so light and beautiful. Lucinda is light and beautiful, or at least seems to be, and looking at her, you would never know there’s so much going on behind that bright smile.

a good word for Lucinda would be masquerade. A masquerade is an event of subterfuge and sleight of hand, and Lucinda lives in a world in which she can’t take her mask off. For her, the masquerade never ends.

“Right? If you ask me, the simple fact we have a class about muggles is too much. At least it’s elective but I don’t see a use for it.” Simone really thought that if muggleborns were going to join their society the least they could do was integrate completely and keep their heads down, if they did things would be so much easier. “You should introduce me to them someday, it’s been a while since I’ve been around kids.”
“Oh, I don’t want to tell people how to live their lives.” Not strictly true, Lucinda had several ideas of how people should live their lives, she just wasn’t especially picky about what classes they took. “If they’d like to waste their time on a useless class, that’s their prerogative. As you said, it is an elective, after all.” As far as Lucinda was concerned, some people just had odd interests, and that was their business. As long as she wasn’t expected to actually care about them, it didn’t concern her. “Oh, of course! They are the sweetest things, and they have such wonderful manners, even little Louise.” Lucinda smiled warmly at Simone. She didn’t care one way or the other if Simone ever actually met her nieces, but Lucinda filed the request into her memory in case Simone ever began to suspect that she wasn’t as important to Lucinda as Lucinda let on.

He wraps his arms around her, as directed by her hands, before releasing her again as he must when she bends his fingers back. He smiles at her when the movement is finished, and they are standing fairly close. “Alright. Thank you. I think I might have it now. Shall we try it the other way?”
“Of course.” Lucinda smiled obligingly up at Regulus. When he didn’t take a step back, she took a step forward, closing more of the already scant distance between them. “Turn around.” Her smile settled into something more, though not quite, flirtatious, and she pushed his hip playfully.
“I feel like most of it usually is,” Remus laughed agreeably, shrugging and letting his head tilt slightly to the side. “You two are friends though, right? Cee’s smart, I’m sure she knows it’s nothing real.” He smiled at her, suddenly looking a little curious - because he also knew that Lucinda was best friends with Emma, someone he was rather intent on becoming friends with as well… who the hell knew why, honestly, but maybe he could figure out a few things about Slytherin sixth years in general. “Still - there are worse things to be written up about, I imagine.”
“Oh, it usually comes from somewhere.” From what Lucinda had observed, which was quite a lot, most gossip had more truth in it than anyone involved was ever willing to admit. One of Lucinda’s favorite things about the gossip column was the fact that it tended to post the things that people most wanted hidden. Often times it meant she could reap all the benefits of knowing someone’s dirty little secret without doing any of the work. “Oh, Cee’s far too smart to believe that. It’s everyone else I don’t want to deal with.” Lucinda sighed dramatically.
Lucinda, of course, noticed Remus’s marked increase in interest. She doubted the Gyrffindor, or any of his housemates really, was capable of any kind of scheming, but it put her on guard, anyway. She’d never liked people digging around her, and this year she’d only become more sensitive to it. “Yes, at least I wasn’t on the long list of girls who might be responsible for the loss of last year’s dear Defense professor.” Lucinda continued to smile easily at the boy, not betraying the intensity with which she was studying him.

“I assure you that is no accident as well. I’m sure if you put in the effort, made it clear there was nothing to report, you would be spared as well,” she responded, not bothering to hide the condescension in her tone. Bellatrix wasn’t one to take well to needless compliments or weak attempts to win her over. This was something meaningless. She could recognize that. It was simply more entertaining to watch how people reacted when it came with scrutiny.
“He will get there, I am sure. If nothing else, someone is bound to do something more inane and worthy of talk soon enough at which point I can assure it won’t happen again. I do hope you can manage the same.” If one looked too far into it, there was a distinct note between the lines that she did not want to see them in there together. In her opinion, Lucinda and Cecilia were the ones to drag him in, not the other way around, and without them, such a tacky and moronic spotlight may not have been cast.
“Oh, I’m sure you’re right.” Of course, it wasn’t being in the gossip column that Lucinda objected to so much as the way she was being talked about. Still, she kept a polite smile on her face despite Bellatrix’s obvious condescension. Lucinda thought such needless antagonizing was, if not exactly stupid, certainly poor strategy. On the other hand, Bellatrix was a Black, when it came to the pecking order, there really wasn’t anyone above her. All Lucinda wanted was to stay off Bellatrix’s bad side. She wasn’t entirely sure the older girl had a good side, and if she did, Lucinda had a feeling getting on it would require rougher methods that she was willing to use. If she was going to have a Black up her sleeve, let it be Narcissa.
“Well, I’m not sure what else I could do. The writers seem determined to misinterpret an innocent friendship, and I can hardly cut ties with him completely. We’re both on the quidditch team, after all.” Lucinda kept her voice innocent, but serious. She understood exactly what Bellatrix was saying, and she did not want to be blamed for this debacle. Let that fall to Cee, she wasn’t in the same house as Bellatrix.

“And I was making my point that it doesn’t matter when it’s not meant to be English. Y’can’t just decide a name isn’t right or whatever because it doesn’t fit in with one of the hundreds of languages in the world,” Davey shot back, growing impatient with her ceaseless condescension. He took a step away from her touch, doing his best to make it look natural, as if there was one thing he knew, it was how to recognize what small gestures like that meant, and hers certainly wasn’t friendly. “Y’know, maybe you don’t want my leadership advice, but you could use my keeping. Gryffindor has better chasers than Ravenclaw. Got in five more shots in our match than Ravenclaw in yours, and I let in six goals to your what, fourteen?” he asked, sending her attitude right back in a way that he would have been more hesitant to do the year before. He had always been proud and known his talent, but Emma had brought out a certain sharpness in him that was saved for moments he needed it combined with his lasting irritation with himself over that mistake. “I can say a thing or two about how to win with more than a damn good seeker. You got lucky, and that’s gonna come back and bite you. Can’t run a team on that. Not a good one at least.”
“That’s not what I was saying at all.” Lucinda’s face hardened into a frosty disdain for just a moment, but not so briefly that it would be easily missed. Lucinda’s point had been that Gudgeon was both an odd and an English sounding name, and even if it wasn’t actually English, the first point still held true. But it was not an important enough argument for her to push the issue, so she flipped her hair with a sweet, perhaps too sweet, smile. “Clearly we have been participating in two very different conversations. A simple misunderstanding.” Lucinda had long since learned to content herself with the knowledge that she was right, even if she was the only one who knew it, and while it was particularly irksome to know that Davey Gudgeon thought he was in an way superior to her, she could still live with it. “I doubt your keeping would be much good in your current condition, either.” Lucinda really had no idea what Davey may or may not be capable of this long after his injury, but she knew he had yet to be returned to full keeper status, and that was enough. She didn’t appreciate the jab at her own keeping abilities, but she kept that to herself, and instead continued speaking. “What exactly are the long-term effects of your injuries? Will you be able to play again next year? It would certainly be a shame to lose the sport forever over such a silly accident.” She smiled sympathetically at him. He was getting defensive, which meant she was pushing on the right wound. A little more pressure and she might be able to make him snap. “I do hope you’ll understand if I don’t talk strategy with you, Davey. You are still on an opposing team, after all. Or technically, at least.” She shrugged as if his status on the Hufflepuff house qudditch team were just that, a technicality, barely worthy of note.

“No, no.” He shakes his head at her, smiling easily and not concerned in the slightest that she had gotten the better of him - it was the point of the exercise, after all. “Show me how you did it.” It had been intended as a question, but as was the want of the Blacks, sounded more than a little like an off-handed command.
“Okay.” Lucinda giggled. “I’ll try to remember how I did it.” She took his hands and wrapped his arms around her again. “So, I did this.” She slowly bent back his fingers, not as far as the first time. “And then, I just turned.” She repeated the action, again going slowly so he could follow her movements.
