Modern AU where Professor Volkarin's contemporaries keep advising him against associating with the young, pretty woman who's obviously a gold digger and after him for his wealth.
Meanwhile, the young so-called gold digger is the lone daughter of the owner and CEO of the De Riva Corporation, and obscenely wealthy in her own right.
hello fellow artists. google has fallen. pinterest/duckduckgo AI filters don't work. do not despair; here is a list i made of places to find reference images without having to sift through piles of worthless garbage. (for future editing convenience i am just linking my blog post on dreamwidth.)
âš good places to find art reference that are not full of AI trash đ
And if you're in a bind and your search engine allows it (google does), filter image results by date. meaning "show only images before day xyz" (it's in the search tools). put in December 2021. no AI results

Lace Harding thought about the little fox kit sometimes.Â
It had been Inquisitor Katica Lavellanâs pet and many saw it as a divine beastâ sent by the Maker to aid the Herald of Andraste.Â
That was the only explanation they had for the hyper intelligent animal that could cast fire spells.Â
Varric had nicknamed it âCotton Tail.âÂ
Sera named it âFuzzy ButtâÂ
Dorian called it a menace.Â
But the Inquisitor had named it âXiu Ying.âÂ
Harding remembered the uncanny look in the foxâs golden eyes when the Inquisitorâs companions were gathered round the campfire, discussing their plans or discoveries after a dayâs adventuring. It was almost like it could understand the words being said. She remembered the rumours around Skyhold of it being caught seemingly reading books or playing chess.Â
When the Inquisitor was taken to Tevinter by Dorian for her recovery, she had naturally taken the fox with her and Harding never saw it again.Â
But after Varric recruited Rook, the Antivan courtesan, to help with their search for Solasâ Harding found herself thinking about the Inquisitorâs fox more often.Â
She saw it in Rookâs eyes when they were gathered together to discuss their next plan of attack, her golden eyes narrowing in concentration.Â
She watched the way Rook tapped her feet on the ground in excitement when they witnessed the wonders of Arlathan. It reminded her of the way the fox used to tap her paws excitedly when it was time to play.Â
There were moments after a cold drizzleâ when the sun would come up and Rook would close her eyes, raising her face towards the sunbeam with a small smile on her face. It reminded Harding of the fox who would stretch out in sunny spots at camp with its little face up and ears laid flat against its skull as its tail wagged lazily.Â
When Harding felt Ghilanânainâs tendrils pierce her skin, she thought of the fox once again.Â
She heard its familiar, furious screech and saw a flash of burning red flame.Â
She thought she saw a large, foxlike creature sink its fangs into Ghilanânainâs throat causing the goddess to drop her but before she could react, everything went dark.Â

For a week, Rook was gone. Harding did what she could to help search what remained of Tearstone Island but her injuries were severe.Â
She thought she had dreamed the sight of the fox in the heat of battle but everyone else had seen the same.Â
âIt was Rook,â Neve had said, âI saw her turn into it the moment Ghilanânain got her hooks into you.âÂ
Harding felt like she was going mad but no one else knew about the Inquisitorâs pet fox and with everything that was going on in the South, she couldnât even get word out to Lavellan.Â
âOver. Here. It Opens!â Spite shouted suddenly through Lucanis.Â
The Crow was the first to rush to the spot his demon had pointed out. It was right where Rook had disappeared that day and Solas had appeared in her place. Emmrich joined to open a point for Rook. Sweat dripped from his brow as he gritted his teeth, pulling open a tear in the Veil itself.Â
And then they heard itâ
âIâm here!âÂ
It was Rookâs voiceâ distant and muffled but it was her.Â
There was no hesitation as Taash and Lucanis reached into the tear for her.Â
âHurry!â Emmrich and Neve ordered, both battling to keep the tear open. As Rookâs arm appeared, Davrin grabbed hold and pulled.Â
And then, she was thereâ blinking in the bright sun. The colour was drained from her face as she gazed at them as though scarcely believing her own eyes.Â
âLucanis?â she said softly.Â
The First Talon wrapped his arms around her at once. As she clung to Lucanis, Rookâs eyes searched the group desperately. She saw Harding and tears filled her eyes, âHardingâ youâre alive,â she whispered.Â
âYeah, Iâm okay,â Harding assured her.Â
âThank the gods,â she said softly. She closed her eyes in exhaustion, âIâm sorryâ I will explain everything later. I just⊠I need to rest.âÂ
And with that, Rook disappeared once again.Â
But this time, instead of FenâHarelâ a small fox had taken her place, laying unconscious in Lucanisâ arms.Â
If anyone's wondering why my dumb postings disappeared, I accidentally started writing a fanfic analysing the father-daughter relationship with Viago De Riva and my Rook, Fiorella De Riva and then turned it into an original fic and now I'm 40k words into draft one and I don't know what year it is anymore help me
