well, actually — tssdsalad was my personal favorite.
"I thought I detected a whiff of virtue in there."
❛ no, i’m doing this for my own benefit.
claire claims not to being a saint, some sort of PIOUS deity. but she has her morals, her beliefs. and claire, for the most part stayed firm. she was not easily swayed, wouldn’t do something she didn’t BELIEVE in. it had to be worth it, it had to be good. doesn’t know about god, about religion — but she knows goodness.
it has to be enough.
❛ what does it tell you, then?
curiosity killed the cat, but claire hated those.
xanabiosis:
★ █ : A crick of a smile twitches at the edge of his lips, and he glances down to her, gripping the hilt of his pistol tightly. Truth be told, he is also nervous. He avoids bringing civilians into battle, the thought of her blood being shed – innocent and poured from a good heart – it made his muscles tense with fear. But she was strong, and full of spirit, thus he comforted her with a vague grin:
❛ With–any luck, you’ll…be help-ing him…after this. ❜
there IS something comforting in his grin — at the very least, everything is FINE enough that he can toss some jokes, right? RIGHT? still, claire stays close, keeps her body half-poised behind him. she’s not stupid, and she is NO martyr. not right now, at the very least. any sort of protection is welcomed.
❛ are you usually this hopeful?
« avocadoisms liked for a starter.
❛ you better have a good reason for being here at two in the morning. and i’m hoping, PRAYING, it doesn’t mean you’re half dead again.
she’s trying to hope that the fact that he made it up to her window meant she wouldn’t need the thread and needle tonight. she’s tired, doesn’t trust her hands. ( that’s a lie. claire’s ALWAYS steady. )

degeneris:
❛ i did have it. for a second. frankie gave it to me when he saw who i was. see, me and him go way back. also, i hear this is where masked vigilantes come to get all fixed up when their boo-boos turn into something that can make them dead-dead. so, you? me? a carton of… shrimp fried rice and a hole in my chest that won’t seem to close? ❜
( ONE DAY , CLAIRE , YOU’RE GOING TO OPEN THE DOOR TO THE WRONG KIND OF GUY — NOT JUST A WEIRD ONE. )
there’s a moment of SILENCE where she contemplates saying wrong apartment, closing the door, making her OWN dinner. but claire can already see it — the sticky DRIPDRIPDRIP from his chest, staining her welcome mat.
this isn’t her JOB. she doesn’t want to be a nurse by day, nurse by night. she wants cheap red wine and reruns of her favorite show. alone. she’s not BUYING his jokes, cheap laughs, keeps her mouth firm. plush lips tight. this isn’t her FIRST rodeo with a weirdo. sad to say, but matt wasn’t even her first. at least this guy doesn’t ACTUALLY have his mask on.
don’tdoitdon’tdoitdon’tdoit—
❛ on the couch. you owe me a welcome mat.
hands hover on the IN CASE he can’t walk alone, falls flat on her floor.
netflixdaredevil:
I’m the lucky girl who pulled you out of the garbage.
« degeneris liked for a starter.
❛ ––––––––––––
❛ you definitely don’t have my takeout.
daringdevil:
she tramples his wantonness, crumples his brow downtrodden. a ruby, cherry juice sliver BREAKS across the bridge of his nose. he doesn’t have to smell spare change to be able to taste the iron singing down to his gut like rotting car parts. the pain digs deep in battered, splinter-sharded bones misaligned, in the minutia of firework capillaries busting beneath the skin && he can hear blood leaking out of flagging tears. he drags a thumb over it.
&& his wince pinches his cheeks, opens the slice of rent skin further, spills more red.
it’s hard to stay away when he can still feel the warmth of her lips on his, when her fingertips are so cool && soothing over the muscles that plate his body like a flimsy armor
❛ i think that’s my line. ❜ he tries for charming again, teeth peering out from an attempted smile. groaning shifts, tectonic, && he exposes the slots of his ribs to show her a riverbed of ripped skin. ❛ two stitches should be enough. ❜
❛ jesus —
more of an EXHALE than a word, truly. claire’s seen the rips and tears of his body, the puckered edges of scars and marks. she knows the grooves of his skin more than MOST, by now. probably. when trying to appear normal, one doesn’t want to showcase the memories etched onto skin. for a moment, she trails the pads of her fingers over the bumps of his abdomen, up to sternum. an un- conscious touch — reassuring. he’s still ALIVE. somehow, this idiot of a man keeps getting back up.
the thought of him never coming back scares her. claire’s already in too deep.
hands pull away as though she’s burned, his world-on-fire bleeding out through his skin. swallows, bites at her mouth, tongue. SILENCE. not that she needs to speak for him to understand her. there’s no such thing as PRIVACY when matt’s around.
❛ if you say so. but you’d better tell me now, because if you pass out in an hour from blood loss, i’m leaving you on my floor.
ANOTHER lie. they fall easily from her mouth — at the very least, claire can take advantage of the fact that he KNOWS.
❛ and would you STOP that? all the shifting. sit still, for once. there’s nothing to run from in here.
daringdevil:
❛ foggy would be happy to hear that. ❜ his voice hitches on the HOOK of her finger at a split seam. pulling in a breath, coughing out a laugh —- it yanks the two sides open where her stitches pucker, tighten… his grimace ripples swollen cheek flesh already ripening to be firm to the touch, HOT beneath his fingertips. matt twists, upends his bottlebrush chin for her attention. ❛ he has this whole thing about me getting the girl ❜
sticky, he swallows; his smile falters && rebounds like a boomerang.
❛ not everyone gets a happy ending; do they? ❜
❛ yeah ? let him know from me.
no apology offered — the stitching HAD to be done. claire presses a cool palm over the wound, though, a SILENT comfort. an attempt. shushes him when he laughs, reprimand laced in the sound. she doesn’t look at him, though, even when she knows he wants her to. the shift of his face, tipped towards her. can’t, can’t. she CAN’T. he looks like a kicked puppy, probably. claire falls for it EVERY TIME.
getting the girl. maybe, but — but that girl isn’t her.
❛ i’ll let you know if i ever figure it out. got any more injuries ? i can’t smell copper in the air.
a quick topic change is cowardly, but claire’s just trying to keep this as NORMAL as they ever were.
daringdevil:
❛ does that make you immune to my charm? ❜
❛ absolutely.
she’s lying through her TEETH, knows he knows. figures he can tell that she doesn’t care, either. fingers finish threading the needle through the soft skin of his shoulder ; careful, careful.
❛ someone has to be, right?
daringdevil:
❛ you really do have a lovely voice. ❜
❛ you have to say that. i’m the one FIXING your ass.
i have a PhD in getting myself into really bad situations
sorry if i smell like dead people.
