It's both my maternal and paternal grandmother's birthday 🎂 🥳
having the ability to stop, slow down, and think "wait, is there any physical reasons I feel bad actually?" is probably one of the most important skills one can have as a mentally ill/neurodivergent person or really just as a human being existing in the world in general
I'd always felt like those "stop! are you hungry? have you had enough water? etc etc..." posts from a few years ago were helpful but sometimes condescending because I really didn't realize how much some people with emotionally negligent parents just were not taught those skills. It can come off as dismissive to be like "you're actually just hungry" when someone's upset but ... There are a nontrivial number of people in this world who cannot function normally when they're hungry and don't even realize that's what's causing it.
Anyways if you're sad and reading this go have a snack. Even if you have a real problem beyond being hungry you're not gonna solve it on an empty stomach anyway so just go have a snack. it won't hurt
I have to get serious for a minute.
I know I’ve said this endless times before, but I just need to say it again.
Hawai‘i is NOT your playground.
Unsustainable tourism has been destroying our islands for generations now, with overpopulation and overdevelopment causing unaffordable living expenses and forcing so many of my people off our sovereign land.
Tourism gathers endless money and uses it to remove our identity from our own islands. It displaces us to build hotels and restaurants, leaving so many of my people homeless or poverty stricken. Tourism then sterilizes our culture, and forces us to become your tour guides, your waitstaff, your hula dancers, your entertainment.
This is not the life we deserve.
My people are more than backgrounds to your vacation. My people deserve more.
Tourism brings disease, and lets Covid cover our islands in a fog of death. I have lost many loved ones to this illness, I am still loosing loved ones to this illness.
We are still in a pandemic. People are still getting sick. People are still dying.
Hawai‘i is not a place for you to run wildly and spread disease.
Hawai‘i is not merely a vacation destination.
My people and our islands and our culture deserve better.
Do not support tourism in Hawai‘i, support my people instead.

I also wanted to share this documentary clip, it’s only 3 minutes long, but it discusses the rise in tourism and the emotional impact on my people. It’s raw and real and so important.
And I know I’ve linked it before, but please read the article below to learn more about the harmful nature of tourism in Hawai‘i.
Hawaii's reliance on tourism has resulted in Native Hawaiians getting priced out of their homes and havoc on the natural landscape. Activist

here's a little news: they've cut off our internet connection like they did 3 years ago when the entire Bloody Aban situation was going on, and I'm one of the few lucky people with a tiny bit of access to come on here and literally BEG you to spread the word. people are on the streets getting killed. a 10 year old girl was shot, several teens are dead. women are being shamelessly fucking beaten (in Mahsa's case, to DEATH) by the same people who cry over historic islamic women being tortured or misbehaved a thousand years ago. do not stay silent.
Infinity Train is getting removed from HBO Max and now CN deleted every video and mention of it off their social media.
I am livid.
Reblog this if you think Infinity Train deserves so much better.
Someone put this here cause I just happened to clean up today. Way to shove me violently back in to my reality with my childhood.
How else would this perfectly reasonable sign be interpreted? Debate that.

tumblr guide for new users:
1) there is only one algorithm for your dashboard, and you can turn it off in settings. can't stress this enough. if you turn it off, your dashboard is in chronological order of posts and reblogs from people you follow
2) because of the lack of algorithm, likes do nothing. if you want more people to see a post, you have to reblog it so it goes on your follower's dashes
3) the vast majority of posts on a person's blog tend to be reblogs. think 90% or so. some of those will have that person commenting on it, and more will have tags
4) comments stay on reblog chains, while tags only show up on your reblog of that post. it's kind of like a whisper voice. in either case, both op and the person you reblogged from see that in their notifications
5) tags don't go in the body of the post. writing "staying in #lasvegas" won't make it appear in the las vegas tag, it'll just look weird
6) it's totally normal to reblog and post multiple things in one day. it's normal to reblog the same post twice in a row. it's normal to have 100 posts+reblogs in a day. post limit (the total number of original posts and reblogs) for a single day is 250. you heard me. 250. go hog fucking wild
7) it defaults to having a visible likes tab on your blog (but only on your blog, not the dashboard) but most people toggle it off
8) "tumblr clout" is a fucking joke. no one can see your follower count, and no one makes money here. there are no influencers. enjoy not giving a shit about maintaining a public persona. it's all anonymous and your employers won't find you here
these tags are so funnyyyy

Our Flag Means Death 1x07 - “This is Happening”
Stede: The snake’s nice. It’s actually really well-tenderized. You could be a chef. Blackbeard: Probably could. Maybe I will. I can do anything.
Such confidence
Why You Should Absolutely Be Watching Our Flag Means Death
Look, I thought this was just going to be a silly little pirate sitcom that I could sit down and binge and move on with my life. But seriously, it’s SO good!
Now, if you haven’t heard of the show, let me start with the basics.
This is Stede.
He used to be a fancy foppish aristocrat.
Then he left his wife and children to become a pirate.
Well, a Gentleman Pirate.
But he’s not really cut out for it and things go south.
Fast.
Enter Blackbeard!
(pause to admire the wigmaker who crafted his glorious beard…. and we’re back)
Blackbeard has heard all about Stede and, quite frankly, he’s fascinated. What the hell is a guy like this doing on a pirate ship?
But the thing is, Blackbeard has been in a bit of a rut himself, and he’s ready to try something new, so they work out a bit of a deal.
Ed will teach Stede how to be a better pirate
And Stede will teach Blackbeard how to be a gentleman.
Now, I know what you’re probably thinking.
Gee, this sounds like a silly little pirate show. Maybe I’ll get around to it eventually.
Or maybe you’ve watched the first couple episodes and thought, “Eh, it’s alright. Kind of funny, but I’ve got limited time here and I’ve got a lot of other stuff to watch.”
But the thing is, this is SO much more than just a silly pirate show. It has hands down the best acting I have ever seen from Taika Watiti. He and Rhys play off each other with the silliness very well, but they also dive into some deep emotional stuff that is just phenomenal.
Oh, and did I mention that this wasn’t a comedy? It’s actually a Rom-Com between Stede and Blackbeard.
And no, it’s not subtext. It’s very much text.
Like… Literally. The show’s creator (David Jenkins) has spent the last 3 weeks in every interview ever being like, “Hey, did you know that gay pirate marriage is a thing that existed? In actual history? Like they had a word for it and everything. Have you heard about this? If not, you should definitely hear about this, because this is a thing that 100% exists and is absolutely historical and you should all definitely know about for no particular reason.”
Anyway, I won’t spoil anything specific from the episodes because it’s all so wonderfully done, but… yeah. The creator ships it hard and he is fucking delivering with every new episode.
And that’s not even getting into any of the wonderful side stories with the crew!
There are multiple queer couples/romances there. Two of the characters create the first ever pyramid scheme. There’s a non-binary character with a amazing backstory and side quest. There’s roommate shenanigans, and… well, just all types of shenanigans really…
The point is, this is seriously an amazing show and I highly highly encourage anyone who is not already on board to join in with the fun.
EDIT: For those wondering where to watch the show, click here to see my second post about that.
