one of my childhood friends, ella, took her own life on tuesday, june 8, 2023. suicide is a very real issue. she kept her problems hidden deep inside and nobody knew how she felt. i wanted to tell you all to reach out to your friends, family, or anyone that seems to be struggling and make sure they’re doing okay. because sometimes you never know if someone is okay until it’s too late. she was such a sweetheart and a kind soul. pay attention to the signs. the signs you’d normally ignore, or brush off. ella had been through a lot, but she was tough. she survived so much pain and trauma, but nobody thought to check on her. from the bottom of my heart, i am begging you, rekindle the flames of your loved ones whenever you can see that they’ve been blown out.

and if you’re considering suicide, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. please, please reach out to someone. a trusted adult, a friend, anyone. it will get better. every feeling is temporary.

everyone that knew ella will miss her greatly.

If they make you feel bad constantly they're not right for you

I think all afab students who are 5th grade and above (10 years old or older) should get at least one (1) excused period absence. Wether they use it before they get to school because they woke up or went to sleep in pain, or if they use it to leave in the middle of the day is not anyone’s concern.

“Oh but they’ll use it to skip”

Ok? Yes, some will, and that only hurts them and their grade.

But there are some people who regularly drag themselves to school, just to get ridiculed by both faculty and students for not being their best self.

No child should be forced to sit in a room and be expected to learn while in excruciating pain then get called dramatic for not being happy about it.

“The boys will feel unfairly treated”

Then let’s have a mandatory lecture to explain to them what a period is and truly help them to understand what their class mates go through.

The comfort of children should be one of a schools main priority, behind safety. And yes above education, no child can properly learn in an environment they feel uncared for in.

The misogyny in schools is so regularly swept under the rug and I’m sick and tired of it.
