I think the most cursed part of this all is that it has the potential to go mainstream and Rian Johnson will have to make a statement along the lines of “I did not steal content from that fanfic” like truly I want to die there’s no winning in this situation

no but actually this would be so fucking funny. just imagine if he didn’t plagiarize it (and i’m pretty sure he didn’t actually): like imagine you’re a hollywood director and this is your big Break its star wars, the big leagues, and you write this story where your main Thing is that everything is Unexpected (like pfft who cares about continuity doesn’t matter the important thing is its original). so you write this script and you’re so proud of it you wont even listen to your actors opinions not even actors who were involved in the franchise before you were born. finally it goes to screen and you’re so happy it gets great critical response! but Then Suddenly its box office reception goes downhill; the fans are tearing you down on social media; they’re saying you’ve made the worst star wars movie ever. it couldn’t possibly get worse right? WRONG. Now theres a viral rumour you plagiarised a god-damned fanfiction. or maybe even a few ! turns out theres loads of fanfics that guessed plot points right. you gambled your career on writing something original and unexpected and it wasnt original and unexpected at all.
