re. fox, and individuality
firstly, fox’s armor is VISIBLE and BRIGHT and BOLD. it sets him apart from his brothers. there’s no mistaking it for anyone else’s. his armor is different, and it is memorable. it’s not a subtle look.
however, it’s not only his armor that has him standing apart from his brothers. during the wrong jedi arc, it’s his words, too.
fox compliments ahsoka on her capture of letta turmond, okay– how often do we see clones other than rex speaking one on one with ahsoka and not dying in like, the same episode? and then, later, when fox is literally ARRESTING ahsoka for “murdering” letta turmond, he says, “Can’t say I blame you, Commander Tano, but all the same, you’re under arrest.”
… fox says that to a LITERAL JEDI THAT HE IS ARRESTING. A LITERAL JEDI THAT COULD PROBABLY RIP HIS HEAD OFF WITH HER MIND. THERE IS A DEAD BODY ON THE GROUND, OKAY, LOSING HIS HEAD IS DEFINITELY A POSSIBILITY HERE.
and like, can we take a minute to talk about this? fox, you aren’t supposed to condone vigilante justice to teenagers. or like, in general. you are the head of a PEACE-KEEPING organization my dude! you probably shouldn’t be telling a suspected murderer that you think their actions were fine! (and yes, i have thoughts about the fact that the guard is CONTINUOUSLY referred to as a peace-keeping organization, but oooooh boy, i am not getting into them here.) ((also, fox, you are so unbelievably outclassed here– maybe you shouldn’t be chatty with the probably murderous jedi, and just arrest her??? i mean, just a suggestion??? i know you like to flirt with danger, but really, this is just ridiculous.))
anyway, moving on. fox is canonically one of the most decorated soldiers in the gar. fox is said to be “utterly fearless.” fox is always the first to lead the charge into battle. fox’s performance is stated to be exemplary.
so, here’s the thing: fox stands out.
now, in a world where rocking the boat can and will get you killed, where having a personality, having thoughts of your own, having an identity, is dangerous, fox stands out. fox doesn’t rock the boat, he fucking makes eye contact with senator burtoni as he sets the goddamn boat on fire. fox is so many things that a clone soldier should not be, and he’s the face of the clones to the public. which is just. interesting. to me.
(okay, i’m exaggerating with the senator burtoni part, but man, i just can’t imagine that the kaminoans would be pleased with how fox conducts himself, and how that reflects on both them and their “products”.) ((also, i’m not including how he stands out in the episode “orders” in this, because that would make this post into an essay, and i really need to go to sleep, rip.))
