So here goes my favourite boy! Quilliam <3 trans and he/him

Inspired by the secretary bird, he is a rather stylish avian. If you'd like to see art of him, check out my tag #quilliam!

Born on a pirate ship with his dad as the captain, he spent most of his early years on the sea. The thing is... he wasn't the son his dad wanted, so he got treated like trash. Most of the crew joined in, bullying him left and right for being weak and a burden.

One night, during a heavy storm, he grew tired of it all. While everyone was busy rolling up the sails, he took the helm and turned the ship towards land. When the captain caught on, it was too late. The waves sent them crashing against rocks.

As far as Quilliam was aware, everyone except him died that night. But he didn't look back - he changed his name to Quilliam (he was called something else before then) and set out to find his new home.

It took him 6 months to find a civilisation, during which he almost died because he wasn't used to life on land. But at last, he reached the lands of Oracle where he'd settle down in a cozy kingdom called Arcadia.

On his first day, he met a small goblin, Sharx, who showed him around. The two would often hang out after, slowly becoming close friends. For the first time in his life, Quilliam felt... at home.

But nothing lasts forever, does it?

One unlucky day when he was out exploring, his friend Sharx got captured by a group of local evil-doers known as the Corrupted. They tortured him for info, and then killed him.

When Quilliam found out days later, he was desolated, completely overcome with grief and anger. He blamed his death on himself. "What I was there, I could have saved him." Unable to cope with the loss, he gave in to drinking, brewing his own rum in his basement as to avoid talking to others. He completely isolated himself for months.

But someone wouldn't let him rot away all alone. Krane, one of Sharx's friends, crashed by his place oftentimes and forced him to shower and to go out in the sun. Quilliam HATED him at first, finding him annoying + being afraid to get attached to anyone again, but eventually he softened and grew to like the guy. He never really stopped drinking, but at least he wasn't actively dying and actually got to socialise. So as time went on, he'd make a bit more friends and get better, despite everything.

Now here is where it gets a bit messy because I used him to roleplay on a Minecraft server and I found out I REALLY enjoy dark roleplays xD

So at some point one of said friends got possessed by a spirit of an evil queen, and while trying to "pretend to join her to gain info" he accidentally got into a situationship with her. Long story short she unearthed some dark stuff from inside of him and praised him for it and this dumbass fell for it and let himself get corrupted. And then she got attached too. Beautiful mess xD They were so violent and beautiful

But as it goes with evil possessive spirits, it woudln't last long either. His other friends managed to find a way to get rid of her, got rid of her, and he cried like a baby. And then turned into a criminal about it, naturally. Gotta finish what she started yknow yknow

There was also this other crazed woman that used her magic to mind control people but that one is wayyy too long for this xD in short he became even more violent and started torturing people (mainly the mind controlling woman, but there were others). And then he killed her, obviously <3

And then there was bunch of other stuff but I don't really take it as canon cuz most of it was written and played out simply for the sake of getting to roleplay torture rp LMAO I might have issues....

oooh, this one is a huge mishmash of ideas but it's a lot of fun to write!

So its a mutant AU, but mutants aren't just shunned, they're basically illegal, and if its discovered that they're a mutant, they get sent to a work camp, and once a year there's a lottery. If your name comes out, you're put with other mutants in a televised fight to the death.

There are always different rules each year, and this year they are essentially 'tethered' to one of the other mutants - but they don't know who. They have to wear collars that can be turned on to to suppress their powers. If their tether dies, the collar they're wearing activates. So they have to figure out who they're tethered to while still fighting to survive :)

I'll probably not start posting this one until some of my other WIPs are finished (or until I've finished writing this one in drafts) but if you have any ideas for what powers some characters could have, feel free to make suggestions! I really need a good one for seon-nyeo - I was thinking prophecy would fit her character but I have no idea how to turn that into something that would be usuable in a fighting arena lol

I genuinely wonder if people realize how many projects get abandoned because the readership "wasn't there", when in reality, the readership just stayed silent. It's a big thing in trad pub that book series get discontinued because readers pirate the books or wait until the series is finished to buy a copy, leading the publisher to think that nobody actually wants the book enough to continue the series, but it happens with indie creators too.

I've discontinued a lot of free, online series because it's not worth putting 3-5 hours a week into posting a project for no readers. Sometimes I finish the series for me but just never post it again, other times I don't finish it at all because it feels more worthwhile to put my time into other things. Sometimes I hear from readers who are sad or upset that I didn't finish something they were liking, but the *reason* it never got finished is because I didn't know anyone liked it. If you like something, tell the creator, tell your friends, make some noise about it. If you would be sad if a story never finished, make that interest known because one of my biggest considerations before discontinuing a series is "will people miss this? Will I be letting people down" and 9/10 times, I come to the conclusion of "no, it doesn't even seem like anyone's reading this" only to learn after I've moved on that apparently someone was.

I've said this before in a different way, and this post said it so well. With real examples. If you like something, tell people.

If you want more content from an artist or author, if you like their stuff, tell them. It will give them creative fuel to keep going. And often it gives them other resources as well. Recommend a work to other people. Leave a comment or a review. It doesn't have to be long, just genuine, a sentence or two. Not many people know that a book's success is judged by book reviews as well as sales. Review the book on Amazon or another site to help it pass the metric of success and be recognized by publishers and retailers.

Dead light green light? 👀

I've got the first two chapters up here!

It's the zombie apocalypse! I've messed with the timelines a bit, because its set in the Walking Dead universe, so the year is 2010, right at the very start of the ZA. Other than that, everything in Squid Game starts the same - Gi-hun joins the games along with Sang-woo etc, and after the first game they vote to leave.

And that's when the apocalypse starts! Everything follows Walking Dead rules, so headshots only, bites kill/turn, and everyone is infected (although they don't know that at the start)

Lingchi for fic wip ask game :)

This one is DARK.

I was thinking about ways we could whump Gi-hun, and I wasn't sure if I'd ever read a fic about him being waterboarded. So I started researching it, reading up on exactly how its done, what it feels like (see FBI? I'm not planning to actually do it - I just wanted a fictional man to suffer!) and while looking up various methods of torture/interrogation, I came across this word - 'Lingchi.'

And hooo boy. It is nasty.

It has been sensationalised in the west, renamed as 'death by a thousand cuts' but basically the condemned would be sliced into, pieces of them removed a bit at a time, until death occured. It was designed to be a slow process (although executioners could be bribed to get the process over with much quicker) and was reserved for specific crimes. Patricide/matricide. Treason.

Rebellion.

Right - that being said, I'm not actually writing a fic where Gi-hun has been condemned to Lingchi. But he has been taken prisoner after the rebellion by a delulu/pathetic In-ho who treats him as if they are lovers while still holding him prisoner. And the fact that his affections aren't being returned is affecting his work. And when his work is affected, all the workers/guards/officers are affected, and the MO has had ENOUGH.

The Officer explains that In-ho's obsession with Gi-hun has become operationally problematic, disrupting the island's functioning and the games themselves. He offers Gi-hun a choice: yield willingly to In-ho's desires, or suffer the conssequences. Gi-hun refuses and the Officer starts talking about Lingchi, giving him an almost academic lecture on it.

As he's talking, he begins an escalation of torture. It starts with cigarette burns and over the course of many days builds up to waterboarding, with each session being punctuated by another lesson on the meaning of lingchi, why it was performed, and how it was designed to restore order.

By the last session - the waterboarding - Gi-hun is broken, and finally turns to In-ho for comfort. In-ho gets his prize, and the MO gets to return to work without having to deal with In-ho being useless.

The man with the calm face lingers in the silence, letting Gi-hun’s plea bleed out into the empty air and die there. He steps closer, shoes clicking menacingly against the tile. When he speaks, his voice is low and steady. “You have more than that.”

Dirt - Dead Light, Green Light

He opened it slowly, as if it might bite. His own name stared back at him in official type—Hwang In-ho. Former police officer, the file read. Bribery. Employment terminated. Debts. Desperation. It hadn’t been a bribe. But it had been close enough for the suits pulling the strings. Close enough to strip away his badge and toss him into the dirt.

Remove - Lingchi

The Officer’s words follow him like a shadow. “Even the most resilient men lose count, eventually. The anticipation always collapses into the main event. You will discover, Player 456, that the body outlasts the mind. The only question is how much of the former I’ll have to remove before you are ready to comply.”

Feather - River

He placed his fingers down and started to play. Chopin. Something simple. Something familiar. Something soft enough to ease into the quiet. The notes were hesitant at first, feather-light and unsure. Then his left hand seized. A hot, stabbing cramp lanced through his wrist, locking his fingers into an awkward claw. He hissed through his teeth and pulled back, cradling the joint, breath shallow.

Ahhhh no, its actually not a biblically accurate hand injury, my apologies.

In A Case of You, In-ho was a concert pianist, and after he donated his kidney to Jun-ho the surgery site got infected, causing damage to his lower back, which sends spasms into his extremities.

That whole fic makes me cry 🤣😭
