Giveaway Contest: Weāre giving away fifteen vintage paperback classics by Edgar Allan Poe, J.D. Salinger, Aldous Huxley, Nevil Shute, Shakespeare, and others! Wonāt this collection look lovely on your shelf? :D To win these classics, you must: 1) be following macrolit on Tumblr (yes, we will check. :P), and 2) reblog this post. We will choose a random winner on May 20, at which time weāll start a new giveaway. And yes, weāll ship to any country. Easy, right? Good luck!
They would look lovelier if there were some women authors in that pile. Or maybe some authors of color.
This is the comment I was waiting for, and frankly, Iām surprised it took 2 days before someone said it. :) @akamine-chan, these particular books were give to me by a kind follower (@anyawen) who wanted to support my giveaways. She got these (and other) books from a library book sale, and out of the 30-something books she gave me, there were only two by female authors (one by Carson McCullersāwhich Iām keeping!āand one by a writer whose books wouldnāt be consideredĀ āclassicsā) and none by authors of color. That said, I really wanted to spotlight her kindness and feature just books she gave me in this giveaway. Iāll add this: I get almost all of my giveaway books from library book sales, too; and itās the sad truth that the overwhelming majority ofĀ āclassicsā available at these sales are by white men. I purposely make it a point to look for and buy classic paperbacks by women authors and authors of color in an effort to strike somewhat of a balance in my giveaways. Usually it works out that 4 out of 15 of my giveaway books are by women and/or authors of color. (Take a look at all of my past giveaways.) Some may complain that isnāt balanced enough, but Iām at the mercy of whatās available to me.Ā I get a fair share of (what I consider) unfair judgement, so I donāt mind at all when someone brings something to my attention in a pretty non-judgmental way. Thank you for doing that. Iām fully expecting it to happen again another handful of times while this giveaway runs. :)Ā
