I woke up, and they were there again.
They looked straight into my eyes with that beautiful gaze, reaching into my heart. Tonight, they understood me too.
They smiled at me, their playful gestures effortlessly pulling me in.
"Here," they said. "Go on. Do what you've been thinking about. I'm with you. I believe in you completely."
A spark lit up in my eyes, and suddenly the world's colors felt so much more vivid.
But then...
"Why are you staring at the ceiling?"
"Ah... hey. I wasn't expecting you this early."
Pierrot was watching me from the edge of the window. He wasn't wearing his clown costume. Instead, he had on his usual clothes, the ones Neko had designed for him. His mask still covered his face, though, leaving only those black eyes visible.
He lowered his hood, letting his white hair fall over his shoulders.
I opened the balcony door and invited him inside.
"So? To what do I owe this lucky visit?"
As I closed the balcony door, the wind brushed through his hair. Our eyes met through the strands.
Pierrot was just about to speak when another knock interrupted him.
"What am I, a ghost?"
"Sorry... I didn't see you, Harvey."
"I was right behind Pierrot!"
Harliquin barged inside and immediately threw himself onto my bed.
"So this is your house, huh? Pretty boring~"
Rolling onto his stomach and resting his chin on his hands, his eyes wandered toward the drawings on my wall.
"What's this? You collect drawings from little kids?"
"I don't remember asking for your opinion."
A mischievous grin spread across his face, clearly pleased by my reaction.
"You drew these?"
"Yeah. They're pretty old. I keep them because they remind me of my brother."
"Do you still draw?"
His eyes shifted toward the sketchbooks on my desk. In one swift motion, I snatched them up, tossed them into the closet, and slammed the door shut.
"Just some insignificant little hobby."
"If it's insignificant, then you shouldn't mind me taking a look. Unless you've been writing about how much you love me, of course~"
Ignoring him completely, I turned my attention to my phone. Even my grandma's "Happy Friday" message was more entertaining than that Mammon knockoff clown.
Pierrot had gone quiet ever since Harliquin arrived, but the way he looked at him made his irritation painfully obvious. I felt much the same, though I kept my expression calm and neutral.
Harliquin got up and wandered around the room, running his fingers across my books and the shelf filled with small figures.
"So you're still enough of a kid to keep toys in your room, huh? Too bad children aren't allowed into the circus. Should we sneak you in anyway?"
"They're collectibles. Would you stop touching my stuff already? Ever heard of personal space?"
"What? Does hearing the truth bother you that much?"
Even though he kept teasing me, he eventually took his hands off the shelf and leaned against the window beside Pierrot.
"Go wait in the living room. You're taking over my room."
"No need. We're leaving anyway. Since Pierrot got punished, today's job got dumped on us~"
Pierrot's muffled voice echoed through the room.
"A culpa é minha?! Whatever happened was your fault, you little bastard!"
A grin stretched across Harliquin's face.
"Ooo~~ Jester's gonna love this~"
Pierrot looked away, forcing himself to stay quiet, though his hand twitched like it desperately wanted to reach for his knife.
"So what, did you come all the way here just to start a fight in my room?"
"Ah, right. We kept getting sidetracked, didn't we? We came to invite you out."
"By 'punished,' you mean your mom wouldn't let you into the house?"
"You're funny. But no. Jester isn't that cruel."
"So what? You weren't expecting me to go outside wearing pajamas, were you? Get lost for a minute."
"Certainly, ma'am."
Harliquin headed for the balcony and was about to jump.
"Ever considered using the door? I don't know, it's pretty popular."
"We don't waste time with things like doors, sweetheart."
"Go ahead then. Jump. See how that works out for you."
After personally throwing both of them out, I changed into something more suitable. As I glanced toward the balcony, a thought crossed my mind.
Come to think of it... if I jumped from the second floor, I'd probably be fine even if I hit the ground.
I slung my backpack over my shoulder and rested one foot on the railing. Looking down, I saw the other two waiting below.
I shifted my weight forward...
...and let myself fall.
As I dropped, my hands caught the streetlamp pole. Moving with the rhythm of my heartbeat, I spun around it before landing lightly on the ground.
