Setters & Hinata
One of my favorite things about the last two episodes of season four is definitely how it's basically showing us what we already knew— aka that Hinata is the sun incarnate, and they also show us three different setters absolutely in love, just in their own unique ways. Like, no, Kageyama, you're not fooling anyone. And I see you smiling behind your jacket collar Kenma! And poor Atumsu, just now joining the race.
Hinata really be out there collecting setters like they're Pokémon. And he's not even doing it on purpose.
Ladies, gentlemen, and everything in between— please allow me to present you with the image that I personally like to believe encapsulates the moment a certain idiot fell in love for the first time:
Just look at him. It's the face of love, I tell you! This is no love at first sight! no, no, it's worse. I just know evertime he closed his eyes that night, he saw the color orange.
Seeing the Karasuno members pile up on top of one another after winning a difficult match has got to be one of the most wholesome things I've ever seen. Like, come on! why are you guys like this!? My mouth already feels like it's gonna tear from grinning like an idiot, goddammit!
It gets me every time I see it. I love them so much.
And the fact that Yamaguchi specifically runs to where Tsukishima is?? Nishinoya and Hinata's blinding smiles? They're basically the nails in my coffin.
thinking about post time skip haikyuu is so funny to be bc the people who know other people is crazy like what must normal people in that universe think
like why does youtuber streamer and owner of bouncing ball co kozume kenma aka kodzuken know the libero of this russian team and this half russian model and this comedian / chef and also a bunch of div 1&2 pro volleyball players and his childhood bsf works for the jva
some kid comes to class one day and his teacher knows half the japanese national team ????? THIS RANDOM COP IN MIYAGI IS A SENPAI TO HINATA SHOYO AND KAGEYAMA TOBIO i’m in tears actually this is so funny how have i never considered this
yachi taking time off for the olympics and her colleagues are like oh omg what are you watching? you could come and watch at this bar with us! and she’s like actually my super famous besties got me tickets to go see the games IN PERSON and that’s how they learn she’s besties with hinata and kageyama bc she also posts a selfie w them and yamaguchi and tsukishima
new fans are so confused on how and why hinata knows so many people??? why is he on good terms with the japanese guy who plays for that one polish team? why is he posting selfies with san juan’s star setter???? why is san juan’s star setter married to THE JAPANESE TEAMS ATHLETIC TRAINER??? WHAT IS HAPPENING
everyone and everything is connected
edit: this is suddenly getting a lot of attention again? is it bc of the new hq magazine idk!!! but hi to anyone who sees this lol i wrote hq stuff on ao3 too :)
redraws from the olympics! 🏐🏅🤺🤸🏻♂️
Poor guy's getting tortured.
Look at this adorable gremlin.
This is your reminder to pay respects to our glorious gamer cat.
All hail the brain of Nekoma.
I will die on the hill that wwx would have folded SO fast at the "Wei Wuxian!" "Lan Wangji!" fight, if lwj had just started crying
Jin Zixuan, trying to propose: We need to talk about our relationship problem. Jiang Yanli: But, we’re not in a relationship? Jin Zixuan: That’s the problem.
see haikyuu is a truly unique piece of media because it is the only one that makes me begin giggling to myself whenever I think about it. it’s like serotonin on demand. this is amazing.
my favourite part of ao3 not having an algorithm is that i can click on any random fic, out of whatever curiosity (morbid or otherwise) i may have on a whim, knowing I won't spend the next three months having ''similar'' content constantly shoved in my face in a desperate attempt to keep me engaged while i stab the not interested button over and over with a growing rage bubbling beneath my skin
The way Hinata is so easily shippable with almost every single character in the show will never not be funny to me. Because :
1- he's so loveable.
2- it's genuinely easy to understand why he's shipped with X or Y characters, and you can just easily refute people who like to ruin the fun by enforcing just one specific pairing, because he genuinely has alot of chemistry with so many characters.
It's Like, HAH! take that you kill-joy, now let me multiship in peace.
Thank you, you sweet little tangerine for being so easily shippable with literally everyone.
I think the reason haikyuu and it's cast is so easily loveable is because, in the grand scheme of things, the plot is so incredibly simple. The stakes aren't life or death, the characters aren't riddled with tragic backstories, it's just high-school kids, playing a sport they love and competing in tournaments.
Most people watching or reading the story will have atleast one character they relate to or see themselves in, Especially because most characters have different motivations, struggles, reasons to keep playing, ect.
And most of the themes are genuinely so great. Whether it be the overarching ideas; like how things are always easier or more possible when you have people standing alongside you, how as long as you have passion and determination you can rise up even if not to the very top.
And even the individual stories of the characters are realistic and relatable. Like how just because you're different doesn't mean you're worse, what makes you ''different'' or ''wierd'' or ''weak'' can become your greatest strength, just because you're not born with innate talent doesn't mean you can't succeed, even the strongest can lose sometimes, and so on and so forth.
It's just a story about high school boys playing a sport, but it's still just the right amount of engaging and relatable that there's no wonder it's one of the most popular stories in it's genre.
Oikawa really is such a great character.
His main struggle is a realistic scenario that many people, regardless of upbringing, can probably relate to. Sure, it's not the most traumatic or heartbreaking story, but it's incredibly relatable. It's the constant feeling that no matter how hard you try, there just always seems to be someone who is just so much better, that no matter how hard you try, there's always someone more ''talented'' than you.
And the thing is, it doesn't matter whether Oikawa is really considered a genius or not, because it doesn't change the fact that he's human. Sure, he's better than a lot of players but he put in the effort for it, and to have someone surpass him seemingly without nearly as much effort could be crushing.
He's better than alot of players, sure, but that doesn't stop him from feeling insecure about his capabilities in comparison to ''more naturally talented players'' and that's so easily relatable.
Not to mention, his decision to keep going forward anyway, despite those feelings of inferiority in the face of players like Tobio or Ushijima, proves that he truly is in it for the love of the game. Yeah, he adores the praise and being cheered on by fans as the “best,” but that’s not why he plays. He’s not the best, and no matter how hard he tries, there will always be someone better than him; and that is fine. He can still shine brightly, even if not the brightest.
I still don't know my purpose on this planet but I do love reading fanfiction.
feverishly worked on this the moment I saw this panel
