DESPITE his attempt to level her with a signature scathing master kenobi look, obi-wan deflates quickly in his seat, hauteur punctured by her bell-like laughter.
" you're laughing, " he bemoans, head in hands as he allows his sense of dramatics to properly express his utter chagrin. " i'm being summoned to parliament on a planet i've never so much as visited, and you're laughing. "
contrary to his better judgement, he's laughing too, the absurdity of the situation fully dawning on him as the initial shock fades.
he'd known, of course, that kenobi was a name of certain significance, but he'd neglected to actually learn anything about his birth planet's form of governance, much less about his own family. it must seem an odd notion to an outsider that he never had the urge ; as a child he'd daydreamed himself into half-forgotten memories, trying as most younglings do to eke out some mysterious wisdom from his past. as he'd grown, secure in his place within the order, the desire had faded from his mind, and with it the vague recollections of howling winds and a woman's deep, musical voice reciting nursery rhymes in a language he no longer recognizes.
and in his ignorance, he'd remained entirely unaware of his precarious political position until, at the age of thirty-six, it bit him thoroughly in the backside.
" i of all people, " he sighs, acutely aware of the irony. " the force moves in mysterious and unknowable ways. "
the brow he raises at her is as sardonic as ever, his tone bone-dry to contrast the theatrical plea he levels her with.
" i am on my knees. i am pleading. lady amidala, wise and knowing. can you free me from the curse of my bloodline? "
