I created this playlist a while ago, but held off on sharing it since some songs had major spoilers. I've finally removed the spoilery ones, and I’ll keep updating the list as the story unfolds.
Most of the songs are soft and a bit melancholic, which fits the overall mood of Far Side of the Moon. There’s ambient music to set the atmosphere, lyrics that echo certain mindsets, and some J-rock that captures the chaos of pining and self-doubt. I also paid attention to the lyrics while curating it—so if you're a reader, it’d be really cool if you checked it out! Feel free to share your thoughts on individual songs and how you interpret them, either here or on AO3 😳
And even if you're not following the fic, you're totally welcome to explore the playlist and let me know which gems caught your ear :D
what I think L Lawliet would look for in a romantic partner
As mentioned in my post about Light, this was originally meant to be merely a section of a larger post featuring several characters, but I felt that it made more sense to split it up by character. That means that this is the second post of an eventual total of seven - Light is already on my blog, and Misa, Matsuda, Mello, Near, and Matt are upcoming. The next two paragraphs of this intro will be identical for each post, so if you've already seen a different part of this series of posts feel free to skip ahead to the headcanons.
I'm going to leave my headcanons gender neutral because although I do see certain characters as certain sexualities, I know other people see them in other ways, and I also just don't think that gender is particularly relevant to what I want to talk about. Plus, in Light's case (for example), I headcanon him as aroace, so I'm going to write this as what I think he'd look for in a romantic partner if that wasn't the case, because this post would be pretty boring if I stuck by that belief.
On a similar note, I'll be going over personality traits rather than appearance - I just find that far more interesting to discuss. With that said, onto the post!
L Lawliet
L works on a very unusual schedule and doesn't have a lot of free time to spend with a partner, so he would do best with someone who wasn't overly attached to him and therefore wouldn't be upset by the lack of time he'd be able to spend with them. Any partner of his would need a lot of patience in order to remain understanding when it came to his undeniably unique situation. Considering that L's job is a very dangerous one, he'd probably also prefer that his partner wasn't involved in his work, giving him one less thing to stress about. Therefore, they'd need to be comfortable with being kept in the dark about a lot of L's life.
To put it bluntly, L is a very strange man (cleans himself in a washing machine, wears copies of the same outfit every day, sits oddly, etc.), so his partner would also need to be unjudgemental in order to get to grips with his behaviours and mannerisms. They would have to be someone who didn't particularly care about beauty standards, because although a large part of the fandom perceive L as attractive, the way he's generally depicted suggests otherwise, at least certainly not in a conventional way. Someone unbothered by or even able to appreciate his peculiarities would be ideal.
Slightly counterintuitively, I imagine that L would want them to not have a sweet tooth, hoping that they would dote on him enough to bring him sweet foods anyway, and then wouldn't take any for themself. Speaking of which, I think he'd want someone attentive and sweet, although as stated previously not overly clingy. I can very much see L as someone who enjoys affection in all of its forms, and he'd really appreciate someone caring and devoted as a partner, especially someone who would be willing to help him out and take care of his needs when he was inevitably too busy with work to do so himself.
L would value all ways of showing love, but he'd particularly want to share quality time, considering how little of it he has to spare. He'd be able to take the smallest moments and really make them matter. When on the receiving end, however, he'd prefer acts of service - having someone take the time and energy to do things for him would make him feel really special and loved, something that I could see him feeling insecure about sometimes. L seems like the kind of person who might not consider himself necessarily worthy of love.
And that's all for now. I'm not sure how much confidence I have in this analysis, especially because I feel like a lot of my points are very similar, which maybe indicates that I don't understand L's character very well. I think that some of my upcoming posts are better, though, so hope persists. Thank you for reading, and I hope you'll return for the next one!
What else is even worth doing besides reading and commenting on fics while I monitor a three-hour exam (reads two fics and loved them immediately, my lucky day discovering good fics)

[Update] Far Side of the Moon, Chapter 41: Darkroom
Ch. 41
"You're dead," said B dryly. A died a year ago. Slept in that tomb since last Easter. And would never wake. "You missed this year’s Easter. No way for resurrection. Rest in peace, A.”
Darkroom. Red and black—I think it fits B.
It also fits the idea that B’s intent to destroy L develops like a film in a darkroom: an eerie, isolated space. He dunks his head into liquid (water, in this chapter), and the image of A takes shape; later, the idea of destroying L forms in the same way. That’s why I chose the title Darkroom.
I also find myself wondering whether this chapter is a dream, a hallucination, or a memory of A and B. I think it’s a mixture of all three, and any interpretation is valid. Maybe B did see A hang himself; maybe he didn’t. Maybe A really said he wanted to be trapped; maybe he was manipulative all along… or maybe it’s only B’s distorted thinking—his inner voice, projected through A.
Like, I really don't know why ch.41 is less than 1500 words, but the pacing and scene are ready, unlike my thesis defense presentation, which, sadly, is 61 pages of slides. (need to trim it...)
Revising is probably gonna stop at chapter 20, leaving the rest as is from there on. Some places need improvement, but not as unacceptable as 1-19, so let's leave it as it is.
Doing some revising and like, you watch the word count drop and feel kinda good, and then realize probably all my chapters are under 3k and so probably this fic should only be 80k or so.
It's so interesting when placed together. I don't understand the languages, but what I noticed first was the voice that the VAs made, after "bang"/before the talk. It makes L different.
Japanese, French, Italian, German, all had a small sigh-like sound after the bang, as if L was...concerned of the intelligence of the task force lol.
English L had this "Hmmm" sound as if he was judging the task force.
Greek was like a light snort. Like a light chuckle. L probably thinks it's funny.
Japanese movie Matsuyama L gives me a nerdy feeling, and Yamazaki... playful L.
