Halle's expressions (+ an analysis of her alliance with Mello)
Halle's expressions whenever her secret alliance with Mello is being brought into light always look guilty lol.
This is when Near tells the SPK to let Mello make contact with them (but in truth Halle has actually been with Mello for a week now).
This is when Near asks her if Mello is still in New York (so the information the SPK got from their exchange with Aizawa can be passed onto Mello). She says 'yes' cause of course she knows.
This is when Halle tells Near that Mello has kidnapped Takada, which is a lie by the way, as she literally gave away Takada willingly. Near must have sensed that Halle is lying and that she's still in cahoots with Mello, as he asks her if she's been leaking information of the SPK investigation to Mello (without Near's knowledge or permission).
Here is Halle giving Takada away to Mello without any doubts or hesitation. Not even any inner monologue whatsoever (well, there's her "Mello!" thought when she realizes it's him).
Which is wild, considering everything that Halle knows about Mello and her own duty to the SPK.
Halle knows that Mello's schemes are dangerous. She knows what happens to people that Mello kidnaps/uses (Takimura, Sayu, and Soichiro). She knows that the pieces on Near's (her boss) board should not be moved as he is planning to close the case. She knows that Takada most likely might not make it out of whatever Mello's got planned for her.
And most of all, she doesn't even know what Mello has planned as he didn't tell her (he hung up on her the last time they had a phone call). Yet she believes in Mello and his schemes so much that she immediately goes along with him even if she's clueless herself about what exactly is he trying to do.
(Also, this makes Halle sooooooo morally complex. I love that about her.)
I love Halle's expression too when she gets all bright-eyed/clear-eyed when she sees that the man in the helmet is actually Mello.
It's like she's very relieved to see him, and hopeful too. They haven't seen each other in person for quite a while now, and the last time they talked (through a phone call) Mello hung up on her with zero explanation. So it makes sense for her to feel that way. She must have also been waiting for Mello to do his classic surprise tactics and shake up the board.
Halle believes in Mello so much that she even interjects when Near tells her to stop Mello, so Near has to assert his position as her boss.
Anyway, here's a bonus Halle expression of her reaction to Near's sexism (when he said that Mello would come to Halle since she's a woman which means that Mello can overpower her easily because of their 'physical difference'.
But yeah like, what? The reason Halle was chosen for the SPK, Near's own team, was because she's one of the best of the best, not just in intelligence but also in strength and fighting skills, so...what even)
I swear, this must be one of the factors on why Halle colluded with Mello; at least Mello doesn't make sexist remarks like this. Did you know that Near actually calls Takada 'stupid' like three times in the manga?
Then again, Mello calls Misa 'stupid', so uhhhh yeah... This manga and its sexism istg
