i struggled alot over how i wanted to approach liliyas chatacter when i came to writing my hollanova feminist study fic bc i kept thinking 'oh ilya doesnt work as a woman' 'oh ilya as a character makes the most sense as a man' and then i realized. absolutely not true. liliya can be exactly the same as ilya (constantly hooking up, overconfident, desperate for the approval of her family) and it actually works EVEN BETTER its just the the world around her responds to it differently. professional hockey player ilya rozanov can have sex with 8 women a week and he can be a womanizer and a 'bad boy' but liliya rozanova can do the same thing but be a maneater and a skank. all the more reason for jane to want to hate her all the more reason for liliya to have a complicated relationship with herself. i love feminism

Giving my two cents in the because i also went to a similar process when i thought about it but it would be also very interesting if she got puck bunny allegations while simultaneously only being able to have "deeper" sexual relationships with other women (jane, svetlana), it just adds more fuel to her general dissatisfaction with her way of life. Also the inherent angst of thinking your rival hates you because you're a slut like everybody else and the pressure of marriage since Russian women do marry young HMMMM
