I saw Yuri heated rivalry floating around and had to throw my two cents in for femme/femme Hollanov. Thoughts on gender presentation under the cut.

The fun thing about “gender bent” designs is thinking of how these characters perform/present their gender and how that would translate to AFAB instead of AMAB.

Ilya kind of presents a little “straight”, he’s big and muscley and masc presenting, could pass for a frat bro and does for years. So I think Liliya would perform hetero girl also, wanting muscles bc she’s an athlete but also wants to look snatched in a bodycon dress and likes doing her hair and makeup. Passes as a sorority girl and doesn’t mind it bc it’s fucking fun. They find comfort in presenting their gender assigned at birth bc they don’t really feel their gender presentation conflicts with the person they are.

For Shane, I think he’s a character that Is traditionally masc by virtue of the things he likes (sports and working out), but as a man, that’s not contradictory to his gender presentation. But as a woman that would be very contrary to performing “straight girl” so I think she would want muscles and want shorter hair but feel confined by trying to present as femme still and DEF NOT GAY. Probably more confined in her gender presentation than as a man. So she doesn’t let herself work out as much arms/legs so she still has “princess arms” and looks good in whatever clothes Yuna and the stylist give her. channels that into a LOT of cardio and core strengthening so she got ABS under there (you just can’t see them here shh)

I do think down the line, the way Shane lets his hair grow out during TLG, Jane would eventually end up with shorter hair and letting herself get more muscles, looking more like Zoey Boyd. Eventual muscle mommy, but takes a long time to let herself get to that point. And Liliya is comfortable in her femme presentation but also lets herself get some vanity muscles maybe. Performs less like a sorority girl and more just like a femme dog mom in the neighborhood that puts on a full face just to take Anya to the dog park. Because she wants to. It becomes less of a performance and more their identity.

ok SO!! i kind of fucked up with this, this was supposed to be the wftda (womens flat track derby association) all stars game, but i put liliya on the wrong team for that. boston’s all star team is the boston massacre, but the team i put her on (the harbor horrors) has cooler jerseys anyway so who gaf. liliya’s derby name is ra ra rASSputin but everyone just calls her rass or raz because that’s way too long. jane’s is calamity jane :) my beautiful wlw babies i love them

i struggled alot over how i wanted to approach liliyas chatacter when i came to writing my hollanova feminist study fic bc i kept thinking 'oh ilya doesnt work as a woman' 'oh ilya as a character makes the most sense as a man' and then i realized. absolutely not true. liliya can be exactly the same as ilya (constantly hooking up, overconfident, desperate for the approval of her family) and it actually works EVEN BETTER its just the the world around her responds to it differently. professional hockey player ilya rozanov can have sex with 8 women a week and he can be a womanizer and a 'bad boy' but liliya rozanova can do the same thing but be a maneater and a skank. all the more reason for jane to want to hate her all the more reason for liliya to have a complicated relationship with herself. i love feminism
