Your pain = My responsibility
Haruka Sakura
Haruka Sakura is bad at expressing emotions.
Not because he doesn't feel them but because he feels them too much. He doesn't know how to soften his reactions, doesn't know how to filter his words. When he cares, it shows as panic first, anger second.
So when you don't reply to his texts, his panics immediately.
He refreshes the screen. Once. Twice. Three times.
You always reply unless you're sleeping. And this is not the time you usually sleep.
Something's definitely wrong.
He doesn't overthink. He doesn't wait. He just shows up at your place, knocking hard enough to make his knuckles sting.
When you open the door, your face is tired. Sad. Too quiet.
"I knew it," he mutters.
"What happened?" he demands, stepping inside before you can stop him. "Did someone say something? Did someone hurt you?"
You hesitate, then mumble, "I just want to be alone."
That sentence hits him wrong.
Because it's the same sentence he used to say. Back when he was drowning and pretending isolation was strength.
His jaw tightens.
"That's stupid."
Your shoulders flinch.
"Being alone doesn't fix shit. It never does."
His voice rises because he's scared— scared you'll disappear into yourself the way he almost did.
"You think locking yourself away makes it easier?" He asks angrily. "It doesn't."
You look down, ashamed, guilt pooling in your chest.
"I didn't mean to make you mad..."
That's when he realizes he messed up.
But instead of fixing it properly— because Sakura is terrible at that— he turns and leaves.
And the moment the door shuts, you feel worse.
But fifteen minutes later, there's knocking again.
When you open the door, Sakura stands there, breath uneven, arms full of snacks. Your favorite ones.
He avoids your eyes while stepping inside and sets the snacks down.
He glances at the TV. "Put a movie on. I don't care what kind."
"Even a romance?"
His ears turn red. "I said I don't care."
He sits beside you, stiff at first, then closer. Your shoulders touch.
"We'll just... sit," he says quietly. "Until your head shuts up."
That's how Sakura loves— rough, messy but sincere.
and that’s how it works; that’s how you get the girl

haruka sakura
haruka sakura got the girl by standing outside of your apartment in the rain for an entire hour because you got mad at him.
actually, he had gotten mad at you first. you doted on him and took care of him excessively while he was injured after a fight, and you refused to go home despite the fact that it was getting late and dark out. sakura knew that your apartment was only a few hours away, but he didn't see why you would be wasting your time on taking care of him when he could do it perfectly fine himself.
“you're pissing me off. i already said, i can just sleep this thing off. you're bothering me right now; go away. you're being annoying.” sakura cringed as the words replayed over and over again in his mind. when he first said it, he didn't think too much of it. but now? geez, if you had said those same things back to him, he would probably be having a way worse reaction than you.
you’ve been giving him the silent treatment for thirty-seven hours, twenty-six minutes, and thirteen seconds. not that he was counting. nope, he definitely wasn't counting. definitely not. he's probably checked his phone a thousand times today already, just waiting for a single text message from you; but none was found.
maybe he thought that this was a genuinely bright idea, because suo and nirei certainly didn't. maybe he really was just that desperate to see you again and for you to forgive him. maybe he's just plain stupid. yeah, probably the last one, but right after school ended, he stormed to your apartment complex as quickly as he could, ringing the doorbell and knocking on the door a multitude of times.
no response.
he knew you were in there; you always went straight back to your apartment right after school. “hey, i know you're in there. let me in.” he barely managed a slightly convincing calm voice, but he was panicking inside. he really didn't want you to ignore him forever. he really didn't want you to leave him. not when you meant so much to him.
it began to rain rather quickly. first, it was just a few droplets landing on his hair and gliding down his nose. but soon enough, his entire body was drenched in rain. he sneezed a few times, but his feet never once left it's location of standing in front of your apartment.
this was unlike him. he shouldn't be doing this. he would never do this for anyone else, so why you? his fists clenched as he heard the first clap of thunder; he should go back. but his legs refused to move, his heart refused to leave you. he glared down at his feet as if they were the reason for your anger at him.
“sakura?”
his eyes darted up, golden and gray-blue eyes meeting yours. “oh, hey,” he said dumbly, hands brushing the imaginary crumbs on his wet shirt. you both stood there awkwardly for a few moments, only the sound of rain hitting the concrete breaking the silence.
“how long have you been standing there?” you asked, a crease forming between your brows. sakura shrugged, as if he didn't spend the last hour contemplating his life and relationship with you.
“an hour.” i would've been willing to wait longer though, he thought. your eyes widened, mouth agape. you took his arm, attempting to take him inside, but sakura refused to budge.
“sorry, i was taking a nap! jeez, just come in already!” you exclaimed, trying to pull him inside with all of your body strength.
but sakura couldn't just come in. he knew himself well enough to he wouldn't feel the weight on his shoulders lift until he truly said what he needed to.
“i--i'm sorry.” his voice was slightly shaky. he probably didn't know how to properly apologize. “i didn't mean to make you upset or anything. i was just not used to it.” there. he should feel better now, right? but for some reason, the tension only weight down on him even harder. what more was there to say? he already apologized, he didn't need to--
“i love you.”
his tongue slipped before he could even control himself, and his entire face burned beet red as he practically jumped up. he didn't intend to say that, so why did his mind react faster than his body did? but you only laughed, hugging his rain-soaked torso with a blush yourself.
“i love you too.”
suo hayato
suo hayato got the girl by never judging you or being mean to you whenever you were being a clumsy idiot.
you were never particularly gifted when it came to reflexes; your hip always bumped into desk corners which left bruises, you almost stubbed your toes which had you crying out in pain, and you almost always trip or have some pretty damn close calls to tripping whenever there was some sort of object in front of you.
because of this, ever since childhood, your classmates quickly learned to avoid you. who knew if you would trip over them and break a bone and then claim that it was their fault? they didn't want to risk it.
and you did everything just to get better. you took classes, you learned online. you really were willing to do anything and everything just to stop being so damn clumsy. but it would never help; you continued to fall flat on your face multiple times.
people made fun of you. they mocked you. they made rumors about you. all because you were uncoordinated.
you've admired suo for a while. when he first came to furin and was out on patrol, you noticed how calm he was. how graceful he was even when it came to something as trivial as walking or talking. he never seemed to get too emotional, he never even got mad. not even when you slipped and fell on him.
he didn't fall down with you, but you practically slammed head first into his chest. you didn't think you could be any more embarrassed in your entire life; your face was on fire and crimson red. suo managed to grasp both of your shoulders so he wouldn't collapse with you, but you face was still in his chest. god, this was so fucking embarrassing.
“i'msosorryididn'tmeantoi'msososososososososorry--”
“it's fine. are you okay?”
did time just stop turning?
wait. he wasn't judging you, he wasn't brushing off his clothes in disgust, he wasn't looking at you with an awkward and embarrassed smile, he wasn't shoving you off, he wasn't doing anything nasty at all.
with two small sentences and one small action, your simple admiration of suo turned began to fall. you both literally and metaphorically fell for him; for this guy who you knew next to nothing about other than his personality, name, and age.
even after the incident, whenever he was out on patrol, suo always greeted you with a smile and wave. sometimes, he would even come over and talk to you for a bit. god, he was literally perfect. he moved on from the incident this quickly?
one day, one fateful day, one beautiful day, you asked suo for his number, and the best part? he gave it to you. he doesn't use his phone in front of other people, so he typed his number and name into your phone, and even gave himself a cute and funny contact photo.
he. touched. your. phone. what did you ever do to get so lucky? you must've been a saint in your past life to have so much happiness in your life.
“i literally love you,” you blabbered the moment he handed your phone back. you clasped a hand over your mouth right after, shocked at what you just say. “uh, platonically! platonically!” you exclaimed, waving your hand back and forth and front and back like a mantra.
but suo only laughed. “it's okay. the feeling's mutual. just not platonically.”
you were falling for him all over again.
hajime umemiya
hajime umemiya got the girl by being an absolute, yearning, pining, whipped, down bad, stupidly in love simp.
the funniest part to everyone was the fact that he didn't even try to hide it. everyone could tell that he was absolutely in love with you. you were an employee at cafe pothos with kotoha, and you were always helping kotoha out, especially when she was new there a few years ago.
teaching her all of the recipes--including your secret ones--, cleaning up messes that she was supposed to clean, cleaning her up and helping her with injuries whenever she got hurt…umemiya saw it all. he saw it so much that he didn't even have to interact with you or talk to you a single time to fall in love with you before even officially meeting you.
when he did officially meet you for the first time, he was so starry eyed and smiley that it seemed to the bypassers that umemiya was about to propose to you or ask you out on a date or something.
“hi! i'm umemiya, furin first year and kotoha's older brother!” he exclaimed, taking your hand and shaking it feverishly, grinning like a child on his first day of school. “it's so great to finally meet you!”
“yeah, you too.” you replied, smiling at him. “i've heard a lot about you from kotoha, umemiya. it's nice to meet you.”
it really spiraled from there. your apartment always had some sort of snack on your doorstep, along with a handwritten note to you from umemiya. whenever his vegetables bloomed, you were always the first person to receive them.
carrying things for you, calling you all night, talking to you whenever he sees you--no matter how inconvenient the time--, carrying you bridal style all the time; everyone was convinced that you were both secretly dating but were just refusing to tell them.
of course, you were aware of umemiya's feelings for you, and you returned his feelings. you really did adore him. you just didn't want to start dating in high school, so you held your feelings back and relished in his affection while trying to drop hints that you liked him back.
if you could make this last forever, you would. just you and him. no one else. no one asking when you were going to get married or how many kids you were going to have or what your plan for the future was going to be. you couldn't stop time or slow it down, of course. you would if you could though.
“umemiya! guess what, guess what?!” you exclaimed, practically bouncing to the rooftop of furin. you didn't even go to school there, but it was practically your second home because of how often you came here. your phone held high in your hand, you sat down in front of umemiya, who was planting tomatoes.
“what happened? is it good? are you happy?” umemiya asked, his gleaming like a puppy's. you held your phone in front of him, a beam paving into your face.
“i got into the university of tokyo! can you belive it? it's the most prestigious university in japan! i studied for so long for this, oh my gosh, i can't believe it, i really got in!” you were practically glowing with happiness, and your energy radiated to umemiya, who seemed just as elated as you were.
“i'm so proud of you! all of those late night study sessions really paid off!” umemiya obviously didn't do much other than emotional support during the late night calls. he was in furin for more reasons other than the fact that he was a great fighter and charismatic leader.
he suddenly froze, coming to a quick realization. “so then…you'll be leaving makochi then? you're going to go to tokyo soon, right?” he still smiled, although the glimmer in his eye was a bit dimmer now. umemiya wasn't going to college, but you were. so he won't see you for four years?
“yeah. but i'll always visit for holidays and breaks and all! and i'll make sure to text you and call you as much as i can.” you remarked, quickly sensing the slight change in atmosphere. “and i'll leave a bunch of my stuff here for you and kotoha to keep. plus, i'm leaving in a few months, so we still have time.”
umemiya nodded, though you could still sense his drop in mood. sighing and shaking your head with a smile, you cupped his face. “here,” you leaned in, and umemiya's eyes widened as his entire face flushed bright tomato red.
you just kissed him.
you pulled away just as quickly though, grinning. “that should be enough for you to hold onto, right?”
that was enough for umemiya to cling onto for an entire lifetime.

She's the sweetest girl I've ever met
Haruka Sakura
Sakura never understands what to do with you.
Fights? Arguments? Fine. People insulting him? Whatever.
But you?
You completely destroy every defense mechanism he has.
Like always, after a fight, he'll drag himself back to his room, bruised and irritated, only to freeze the moment he sees you already sitting there waiting for him with your arms crossed.
His entire body immediately stiffens.
"W-Why are you looking at me like that?!"
You raise an eyebrow.
"Sit."
"I don't need—"
"Haruka."
The moment you say his name in that calm voice, he's already defeated.
He grumbles under his breath and sits down.
Then comes the worst part.
Every time your fingers brush against his skin while cleaning a cut or wrapping a bandage, his entire face turns bright red.
You don't even realize what you're doing to him. You're just focused on helping him. Meanwhile Sakura is having the worst crisis of his life.
"Stop moving."
"I-I'm not moving!"
"Then why are you flinching?"
Because you're touching him, because you're too close, because he can smell your shampoo, because your nails lightly scrape against his scalp when you move his hair away from a cut and by the time you're done, he's basically overheating.
And then you tell him to lie down...
"What?!"
"Lie down."
"I'm fine!"
"You almost got thrown through a wall."
Five minutes later he's lying down anyway.
You sit beside him and start gently scratching his scalp. Long nails carefully gliding through his pink-and-black hair.
His entire body goes rigid, you can practically hear the steam escaping from his ears.
"Relax."
"I AM RELAXED!"
He's absolutely not relaxed.
But after a while, exhaustion begins catching up to him as your fingers continue moving through his hair.
Scratching, massaging, playing with the strands.
For probably the first time in a very long time, Sakura feels safe enough to stop being on guard.
His eyes slowly close and the next thing he knows, he's asleep, head tilted slightly toward you.
And when he wakes up later and realizes he fell asleep because of your head scratches?
He's not speaking to anyone for three business days.

You thought it would be fun to take pictures of the recent hangout with all the furin boys at Pothos.
Umemiya and Kotoha agreed with you.
Throughout the day you had taken candid pictures of everyone, Suo sipping tea, Kiryu playing games, Ume annoying Kotoha. After taking a bunch of pictures, you looked through the camera roll and had a brilliant idea.
"Let's all take a group picture!"
That's how all of you ended up squeezed in the middle of the cafe, with little to no space between you and your neighbour. The camera was propped up right in front of the front door; you had made sure to lock the door before placing it there, or else it would've been a really tragic accident if someone were to walk in right now.
"Okay everyone, come closer!" Umemiya was currently conducting everyone to make sure that everybody was in frame. "Closer... Closer." Ume said as he checked the frame through the camera.
"Ume, if you don't get here right now, I'm going to rip your head off!" Kotoha snapped, she was currently very overstimulated, and Umemiya's stalling is not helping.
Ume looked like a sad puppy, he set the camera and quickly made his way over to the group.
"Okay everyone, smile!"
Click!
"Wait, don't move yet! Lemme check the picture." Umemiya quickly made his way to the camera to check if the picture came out okay.
He frowned.
"We have to take this again! Sakura, you weren't even trying to smile."
"I'm not smiling for some dumb picture." Sakura rolled his eyes.
"Well at least don't make that face, it so obviously says 'I was forced to be here against my will.'"
"I am forced to be here against my will." Sakura groaned.
"The sooner you do this, the sooner it'll be over with." Suo said, his usual easy smile on his lips. "It won't kill you to smile for one second."
Sakura shot Suo a glare and muttered something under his breath. You didn't hear what he was saying but it sounded like something along the lines of "Stupid Suo and this stupid picture."
You turned to look up at Sakura.
"Please smile just a little, Sakura..." you give him a pleading look. "...For me?"
His face heated up immediately.
"...Fine" he muttered, he then turned to the camera and gave it an, albeit awkward smile.
"Perfect!" Umemiya pressed a few buttons on the camera and ran back to his position.
Click!
Everyone immediately relaxes. Tsugeura had said something funny that had you laughing lightly.
A second passes, then...
Click!
There was a second shutter.
────────୨ৎ────────
The freshly printed photos had barely hit the table before everyone crowded around them.
"Ooh, let me see!" Tsugeura grinned, leaning so far over the table he nearly knocked Tsubaki out of the way.
"Careful!" Tsubaki laughed, catching the stack before it slipped off the edge. "I only just picked them up."
Kotoha smiled as she spread the photos across the table. "There should be enough for everyone."
Immediately, everyone reached for a different picture.
The café filled with quiet chuckles.
One photo had Tsugeura blinking at exactly the wrong moment.
Another had Nirei looking startled because someone had apparently yelled just before the shutter clicked.
There was one where Hiragi looked like he'd rather be literally anywhere else.
"That's a good one." Umemiya laughed.
"It is not." Hiragi denied.
"It absolutely is." Umemiya countered.
Sakura barely paid them any attention. He simply picked up one of the group photos and gave it a quick glance. "...Looks fine."
"It does," Nirei agreed.
For a moment, everyone simply admired the pictures.
Then-
"...Hm." Suo tilted his head. Something caught his attention. He picked up another copy of the same photograph and looked a little closer.
"...Interesting."
"What?" Kiryu asked.
Instead of answering, Suo silently held the photo toward everyone else. One by one, they leaned in.
Kiryu blinked.
"...Oh."
Tsugeura's eyebrows shot up. "...No way."
Even Umemiya smiled knowingly.
Sakura frowned. "What?"
Suo tapped a finger against the photo. "...You're smiling."
"...I am." Sakura replied, unimpressed.
"You are."
Sakura looked back down. "...So?"
The entire table stared at him.
"...What?"
"You don't smile," Hiragi said flatly.
"I do."
"No," Tsubaki laughed.
"You really don't," Nirei admitted.
"You look constipated most of the time." Kiryu joked.
"I do not."
"You absolutely do." They all agreed.
Sakura frowned harder. "...This is just my face."
Suo smiled softly before reaching for another photograph. "What about this one?"
He placed it beside the first.
Sakura looked down.
In the first photo everyone was standing together, he was facing the camera. His lips were pulled into a stiff, awkward smile after you'd begged him to smile "just a little." He turned to the second picture.
He hadn't even noticed there was another one.
This time the camera must've snapped the photo a second later. You had turned around to laugh at something Tsugeura had said.
Without realizing it, Sakura had looked down at you. In the photo his shoulders looked more relaxed, his eyes were softer, and he had this expression on his face, and his smile...
It wasn't the awkward smile from before, it wasn't forced. It was... Warm.
He stared. He looked back at the first picture, then turned to the second one, and back to the first picture again.
"They're different," Suo said gently.
"...They are?" Sakura raised one eyebrow.
"You... seriously can't tell?" Nirei questioned, his face was slightly shocked.
"I'm smiling in both of them." he shrugged.
Suo let out the tiniest sigh. "No." He slid the first picture closer. "This one..." He pointed toward Sakura's expression. "...is the smile you make when someone tells you to smile."
Then he moved his finger to the second.
"This one..." He paused, "is the smile you make when you're looking at someone you like."
Silence.
Sakura's eyes drifted back to the photograph. He looked closer and finally noticed something.
He hadn't been looking at the camera.
He'd been looking at you.
"...Oh."
Tsugeura slammed both hands onto the table. "HE GOT IT!"
Nirei nearly jumped out of his seat.
"G-Got what?!" Sakura stammered, flustered.
"You like her!" Tsugeura shouted.
"I don't-"
"You do," Hiragi interrupted.
"I don't."
"We literally have photographic evidence," Tsubaki laughed.
Kiryu nodded toward the picture, "You look at her differently."
"I don't."
"You do."
"I don't."
"You really do."
Sakura looked back down. He wanted to argue with all of them, tell them to get their eyes checked, and that their looking too much into it. He wanted to say all of that, but... the longer he looked at the two photographs the more obvious it became.
One smile had been awkward, forced.
The other showed a genuine, fond, smile. He actually looked happy.
His ears slowly turned pink.
Then red.
Then crimson.
He'd never smiled at anyone like that before, not even close. He doesn't even think he's smiled like that ever.
Oh no.
He liked you.
He actually-
The bell above the café door chimed.
"Morning!"
Sakura's entire body froze, his ears perked up, it was your voice; he could recognise your voice anywhere.
You walked inside carrying a small paper bag, completely oblivious to the crisis unfolding around the table.
"Oh! Everyone's here. Hey guys!" You waved with a bright smile.
Everyone said their respective greetings.
Your eyes landed on Sakura.
"Hi, Sakura!"
His brain stopped functioning.
The photographs.
Your smile.
Everyone staring.
The teasing.
His feelings.
Everything hit him at once.
He made a tiny, panicked noise. "I have to go."
Before anyone could react, he practically launched himself out of his chair, and rushed past you. The café door flew open, the little bell above the door jingled so violently it almost sounded concerning.
He'd left.
Silence settled over the café.
You blinked.
"...Okay." You looked toward the door and then back at everyone else. "...Bye, I guess?"
You turned back towards the door, the bell still jingling slightly. You frowned, hugging the paper bag against your chest. "Did I... do something?"
Around the table, everyone exchanged knowing looks.
Suo smiled into his tea.
"No, not at all."
────────୨ৎ────────
Sakura rushes back home and immediately freaks out.
He's sitting on his futon and has his pillow in his hands. He thinks back on the pictures and shoves his head into his pillow with a groan.
He likes you.
He likes you.
It was already obvious to everyone, and now they have photographic evidence. His longing gaze at you paired with the fond smile he hadn't realize he was making.
Then his mind drifted to you.
Your pretty smile, and equally as pretty laugh.
Your gorgeous hair, always carrying the faint scent of coffee after your shifts at Pothos.
Your darling eyes that he could just get lost in.
Your beautiful face.
You.
You were always so kind to everyone, so caring that sometimes it made his heart ache. He's realizing just how in love he has been with you.
You couldn't possibly like him back right?
You were basically sunshine in human form, and he was always moody and avoidant. He gets upset quickly, pushes people away, and he doesn't really understand love.
He's never loved or been loved before.
He needed to avoid you until this feeling goes away.
That's what he told himself as he laid back down and stared at his ceiling.

Sakura's idea has been going somewhat according to plan, he's successfully avoided any and all interaction with you for over a week now.
Whenever he sees you walking up to him, he turns away and leaves hastily, leaving you standing there stunned. You had just wanted to ask him how he's been doing, and he had fled like you were a patient of the plague.
He's ignored all of your messages too. You always wished him good morning and night, and you always texted him whenever you knew he had patrol, and also the occasional meme that he didn't understand. But recently, he hasn't replied to any of them, no 'Good Morning.' or 'Good Night.' No 'Patrol was fine.' And not even a thumbs up on the memes, like he usually would. Just a 'Seen' under your message and absolute radio silence.
He had stopped patrolling his usual route because it went past your house and Pothos. He'd been switching with Kaji instead, making some lame excuse about "a change of scenery." Kaji had been suspicious but switched with him either way.
He'd even stopped going to Pothos entirely, knowing you work there and was his usual server made him nervous beyond belief. So instead he's been living off of bread from Cactus and instant noodles. Lord knows he missed having an egg sandwich and omurice everyday, but it was worth it if it kept his heart from jumping like it usually did when he saw you.
Then one day, you came to the school to drop something off for Umemiya. Before Sakura could even think of escaping, you were already standing in front of him, carrying a big box of stuff- he didn't know what it was but it looked heavy.
"Hey sakura!" You beamed whilst panting slightly, you had seen him from across the yard and quickly rushed over to him before he could escape.
"...Hi." He muttered, avoiding facing you completely.
"I just came to drop things off for Ume." You'd explained, still trying to catch his eye.
"...I'll take it." Sakura muttered, quickly taking the box from your hands before fleeing into the school.
"Oh... Thanks." You called out to his fleeting figure.
You stood there for a moment wondering what the hell was up with him.
Sakura felt a little guilty for treating you like this. You hadn't done anything to him and he's been avoiding you for nearly two weeks. But no matter how bad he felt, he still thought that this was the right decision in stopping his feelings for you.

"...Does Sakura hate me?" You asked with a frown.
Your head was laying on the counter, Kotoha in the kitchen in front of you and Suo and Kiryu on either side of you.
They stopped what they were doing and looked at each other.
"What makes you think that?" Kotoha was the first to say something.
"I don't know... it just feels like he's been avoiding me lately." You sat up and rested your head in your hands now.
"How's he been avoiding you?" Kiryu asked.
"Well for instance, he hasn't been to the cafe for almost two weeks now! That's very weird, especially for him."
"That doesn't mean anything, he might just be sick of the food here." Suo tried comforting you.
"But that's not all!"
You started listing all the weird things Sakura's done: Not replying to your messages, turning around as soon as he saw you heading his way, stopped patrolling the route he usually does, and whenever you go to the school to drop something off, he avoids your eyes and leaves as quickly as possible, keeping his conversation with you short and clipped.
They all listened to you explain all the things you've found odd recently, everytime you list something, they all sighed to themselves and gave each other knowing looks.
"I think I must've done something..." You pout. "I just don't know what."
"You didn't do anything." Kiryu patted your back lightly.
"He'll come around." Suo added.
"Yeah, he's just going through his Sakura moody cycle thingy's." Kotoha explained simply.
"If you say so..." You sighed.

"She thinks you hate her."
It was currently lunchtime and the boys were sitting in their usual seats together, the five of them sat facing each other, talking about nothing in particular until the topic of you came up. The rest of the classroom was filled with its usual rowdy atmosphere, but that didn't affect them.
"What?! I don't hate her!" Sakura defended, his voice coming out in a more desperate pitch than he would've hoped.
"Well she doesn't know that." Suo replied.
"Why have you been avoiding her anyway?" Kiryu questioned.
"Nothing! I haven't been avoiding her at all!"
They all gave him a look.
"C'mon Sakura, anyone with eyes can see that you're avoiding her." Suo said, completely unimpressed.
"Yeah that's kind of true..." Nirei added meekly.
"Yeah man you've totally been avoiding her!" Tsugeura started, then added: "It's totally unmanly that you're lying by the way."
Sakura blinked at all of them.
"I don't have to explain myself to any of you." Sakura huffed.
"You might not owe us an explanation, but we'd still like to know why." Kiryu said with a slight frown on his face.
Kiryu and Suo (and Kotoha) were your closest friends, and they were all upset when you'd told them about this. They didn't want you to think that you'd done anything wrong when they knew that it was really just Sakura being too scared to face his crush.
Sakura paused. He opened his mouth to say something but nothing would come out, he closed his mouth. Then he tried again, this time he was actually able to get something out.
"I... like her." Sakura started, he looked up at all the guys and winced when he saw they were already looking at him with shocked faces. "I like her a lot, but I don't know anything about romance, o-or liking someone." He stammered. "I feel weird inside whenever I think of her and my heart beats so fast whenever I see her." Sakura confessed truthfully. He paused before continuing. "I like her so much and I don't want her to think I hate her, but I don't know what else to do other than avoid her." Sakura rubbed his face with his hands, then he shyly looked back up from the confinements of his palm.
...
Silence.
Then Suo laughed.
"It was kind of obvious you like her dummy." He said through laughter.
"Yeah man, it doesn't take a detective to notice that you're like, head over heels in love with her or something." Tsugeura stated obviously.
"Yeah Sakura, I'm pretty sure everyone knows." Nirei chuckled.
Sakura stared with a dumb face.
"Well, everyone except her, that is." Kiryu smiled.
Sakura's face heated up immediately.
"Y-you all k-knew?!" Sakura embarrassedly spewed out.
"It was kind of impossible not to notice how differently you acted around her." Suo teased.
Sakura blushed harder.
"You shouldn't be avoiding her, Sakura." Nirei said calmly.
"Yeah, man, you already gave her the wrong idea." Tsugeura leaned closer to Sakura and roughly patted him on the back.
"She cherishes you deeply," Kiryu started. "You should've seen how upset she was when she told us you'd been avoiding her."
"Yeah Sakura, she was really worried she might've done something to upset you." Suo smiled. "You don't worry about upsetting someone unless you care about them."
Sakura paused at that.
Did you really worry about him that much?
The thought of him upsetting you made a pit form in his stomach.
"Stop avoiding her, Sakura, it won't magically make your feelings go away." Kiryu stated seriously.
"Yeah, and if anything, distance makes the heart grow fonder," Suo teased.
Kiryu sighed, "Go fix it."

It's late afternoon, the sun getting lower and lower, painting the sky in an orange hue.
Sakura was currently walking to Pothos. He'd come straight after school, but the closer he got, the slower he walked; his mind was going a mile a minute. How would he even begin to explain why he'd been ignoring you? How could he tell you he liked you?
Sakura made it to the main street after delaying his walk the whole way. He saw the cafe from far away, his heart already going far too fast at the thought of being around you again after two weeks.
He stopped in front of the cafe, not making any effort to walk in. He looked through the windows and saw you inside, wiping down a table with that smile you always seemed to have- even when you were alone.
His heart lurched in his chest.
How he's been able to go two weeks without seeing your smile is beyond him.
He walked closer to the door and gripped the handle; he took a deep breath before walking in.
The doorbell chimed and you looked up, your face was shocked for a second before returning back into your usual warm smile.
"Sakura!" You smiled, you sounded relieved.
“...Hi." Sakura mumbled awkwardly. "You're working alone?" He asked, gesturing towards the empty cafe.
"Yeah, Kotoha had something going on at the orphanage, so i'm in charge of closing up early today."
"Oh... Okay."
"I haven't seen you in a while."
"...Yeah."
Neither of you said anything after that, there was only an awkward silence before you finally spoke up.
"Did you want some coffee? I could pour you one last cup." You suggested.
"No." He shook his head. "...That's not why I'm here." He swallowed. "I... actually came here to talk to you."
"You came here for me?"
More silence.
Then Sakura blurts out:
"I don't hate you."
You blinked.
"What?"
Sakura hopes the ground would just swallow him whole.
"I... I don't hate you." He started. "Suo and Kiryu told me you thought I hated you." He took a big breath. "So I came here to tell you that I don't... hate you."
You didn't say anything, you didn't know what to say, what would you even say to that?
Neither of you spoke until you finally asked:
"...You came all the way here just to tell me you don't hate me?"
Sakura nodded stiffly.
"...Yeah."
You stared at him.
"...Sakura, that's kind of adorable."
His face exploded.
"It's not adorable!"
"Then why were you avoiding me?"
"...Because..."
Sakura stopped himself. Was he really about to confess to you? He looked at you and opened his mouth, then he shut it again.
“...Because?” You asked. Growing more confused by the second.
Sakura felt like he was going to die.
You looked at him, waiting.
"Because… I... I like you." Sakura gulped, he looked shyly into your eyes. "I don't hate you. I-I like you... a lot."
Silence again.
You stared at him.
He immediately regrets even existing. “...F-Forget I said anything.” He starts turning back to the door.
You grabbed his sleeve, stopping him in his tracks.
Then you giggled slightly.
"I was hoping that would be the case." You stepped closer and smiled up at him. " I like you too... a lot."
Sakura.exe officially stops working.
Both of you are flustered, shyly looking away from each other as you softly laugh.
Sakura combusts, his face heating up and turning into a bright red colour. He tries saying something but he can't get anything out but a few splutters.
The atmosphere calms down and both of you are less shy now, finally looking at each other again.
"I-I'll walk you home." Sakura stutters.
You smile even harder. "Okay."
────────୨ৎ────────
Both of you step outside and you locked the door behind you.
The sun is setting now, the orange hue even brighter than before. The street is quiet and there is almost no one else other than the two of you.
The both of you walked together in comfortable silence.
You finally said something.
"So..." You folded your arms. "You ignored every message."
Sakura winced.
"Ran away whenever you saw me." You pouted slightly.
"...Sorry."
"And you changed your patrol route." You huffed.
"...How did you know that?"
"Kaji told me."
“Oh…”
He didn’t say anything.
"But... you were avoiding me because you like me?" You asked, slightly hopeful.
Sakura turns away from you.
"Maybe..."
You laugh.
"Y'know... I really did think you hated me." You confessed.
Sakura immediately looks horrified. "I'm... Sorry."
"No, don't apologize," you stopped him. "I'm just glad you told me."
Sakura looked forward and immediately relaxed, his lips slightly turned upwards. "Me too."
You look over at him.
"You can be so cute sometimes, Sakura." You sigh fondly.
Sakura starts blushing. Hard. He tried hiding his red face from you, but you noticed anyway.
As you get closer to your house, the path narrows; forcing you and Sakura to be significantly closer.
Then your shoulders brushed.
Sakura almost faints.
He jerks away from you instinctively. "S-sorry."
You laugh again. "It's okay."
You looked down at Sakura's hand. It was clenched tight, his knuckles turning white.
You smiled and very gently reached over and hooked your pinky around his.
Sakura freezes, he feels every muscle in his body stop working. He slowly looks down, your pinkies are linked. He stares for a good five seconds.
Then...
Very carefully...
He uncurled his fingers, and timidly slid his hand into yours; almost like he's asking for permission. You blush slightly, your fingers weave between his.
His face immediately becomes tomato red.
He can't even look at you anymore.
You decided to tease him just a little bit.
"You okay?"
"...No."
"Too much?"
"...A little." He started. "But..."
He squeezes your hand.
"...Don't let go."
You smile again.
"I wasn't planning to."
────────୨ৎ────────
The both of you kept walking, still holding hands. Sakura never looks at you once during the rest of the walk. He was too embarrassed; but every few steps, his thumb unconsciously brushes over yours. Small, careful, almost like he's checking you're still there.
When you reach your house neither of you let go immediately. Still standing there, fingers interlocked. There's that awkward atmosphere where neither of you want to make a move yet.
"Well..." You were the one who broke the silence. "...I should go."
"Yeah." Sakura says, but he doesn't let go of your hand. The both of you were still holding hands.
Finally Sakura notices, his face somehow got even redder. "...O-oh."
Sakura pulls away so fast you would've thought he touched a hot stove.
"S-Sorry." Sakura stumbles.
You laugh lightly. "It's okay."
Then, before walking inside, you lean over and kiss his cheek. Just a tiny peck. "Goodnight, Sakura."
He blue screens. Literally. He just stands there. Frozen. Watching you go inside. The door closes behind you. Silence.
Five seconds pass.
Then-
He quietly touched the cheek you kissed.
...
A tiny smile appears on his face.
A real one.
A smile no one had ever seen before that day.
The same one the camera had accidentally captured.
The one that had given his heart away.
────────୨ৎ────────
He still had no idea what he was doing.
But for the first time in weeks...
His heart felt a little lighter.
